  1. I don't believe there are any fast food restaurants in Jomtien. You would have thought a Pizza Hut would do well or maybe a Dunkin Donut. I wonder if maybe the city won't approve such places in Jomtien?

It's amazing that with the thousands of condos in the area no fast food outlets. Surely there must a market, me for one. What about where the La Baguette went, that would have been a perfect McD/KFC/Pizza Hut.

  2. I am buying a condo for around 1.2 million baht and my lawyer advised me to transfer the sum into my bank (Kasikorn) from overseas to get a Tor Tor 3. Upon checking with my bank first they said that the minimum transfer required to get a Tor Tor 3 was 1.5 million baht. Now thats not a problem for me i will transfer the 1.5 but it raised the question of what happens to people who only want to buy for say 1 million. Are they refused a TT3 and if so can they even buy the property.

  3. I see CIMB now have a 17 month deposit account offering 3.25%. Seems to be the one to go for. I assume this would be acceptable to Immigration.

From what I remember, that particular promotion seems to have a companion requirement about also opening some other account with CIMB as well for some additional required minimum opening amount.

And, assuming you did open the 3.25% account and were able to get the branch to issue an Immigration letter for that account, would you also be able to get your bank passbook updated and/or obtain an ATM receipt/balance update for the account on the same day as your Immigration visit?

Thanks for this comment. This is why i started the thread. How does one know if any of these accounts will be accepted by immigration?

  4. Went today to get my interest back. One item not mentioned above is that you have to get a tax number (maybe only for first time applicants) and to get a tax number you have to present a tabien bahn. So i had to make two trips but otherwise an easy thing to do.

    Hi there

I did mention you get a Tax ID at desk 5 or 6, you DO NOT need to present a Tabien Bahn, merely proof of address!

I rent so I know how I effected this last week.

Anyhow if you read my list of how to do, which I thought was fairly self explanatory then it can be effected in one visit!

Regardless as I said I am just trying to assist in an area which I thought would be useful to know!

I did take two proofs of address as suggested but she wouldn't accept them. Had to go back home and get my tabien bahn.

Sorry didn't mean to be critical, your post was very helpful. Just outlining my experience.

  5. Is it really cheaper to live in canada? i can't really believe that. Can you buy a detached house for $100,000? My costs living here in LoS are far below what i would pay in the UK.

Can't say about Canada but in the US, yes. LINK

In the UK that wouldn't even buy you an outside toilet. Minimum in London @$700,000 in some Muslim ghetto.

  6. I think Europe has a stark choice: either boot the Greeks out (which won't be cheap), or throw Ukraine to the wolves. In the latter case, the EU can start exporting to Russia again which will create demand, growth and new jobs. Hardly a palatable solution though.

Why on earth Greece was allowed to join the Euro in the first place is mystery to me. Corruption and nepotism are a way of life in Greece and yet nobody paid any attention to it. They fiddled the books like they've always done and nobody bothered to check the figures. Since then, they've been milking the Euro cash cow for all it's worth. And now when it comes to pay back time, they've all disappeared into their foxholes. If the EU gives into their demands to write off half the debt mountain, you can be sure countries like Ireland, Italy, Spain and Portugal are going to adopt the same line of resistance with the resulting turmoil.

The best thing that could happen now is for the EU to stand firm and insist that debts have to be repaid and current austerity measures have to remain in force. That would mean Tsipras would have to persuade the country that it would be in their own best interest to exit the Euro and reintroduce the Drachma. That can be devalued and the Greece will have complete control over its own destiny. In those circumstances the EU might be persuaded to write off a sizeable proportion of Greek debt, but not while the country remains in the Eurozone.

Goldman Sachs checked the figures and knew full well the true position. They went ahead anyway of course because they knew they would make a killing when Greece entered, and exited, the EUSSR.

I am surprised this bank run didn't happen weeks or months ago. No one with any sense would leave money in a Greek bank.

  7. I got my Grandstand tickers from 7/11 yesterday but encountered a problem which might affect others. The system at 7/11 only seemed to accept orders from someone with a thai ID number. Luckily my tgf was there and i used her number. Any farang trying to buy on their own might have a problem.

I had the same issue today, but used wife ID also. I tried getting the 25% discount on one ticket with my Honda key, but gave up lol. I have not printed out tickets off website yet, Do you choose specific seats in grandstand? Just need a hotel now, lol.

I got one 25% discount but gave up on the other after waiting for ages. I thought the tickets were for any seat in the Grandstand not a specific area. I was told to pick my tickets up at the site on the day, can you run them off the web?
