  1. Couldn't believe my eyes when i saw the second round of next years World SBK 22nd March was in Buriram Thailand, at the Chang International circuit. I am a big SBK fan and it's great to think it's here just a few hours drive away. Seems an odd choice though, maybe Bangkok but Buriram!! Where will all the riders stay?

  2. Personally I subscribe to the quote and ideals of Cecil Rhodes.

Remember that you are an Englishman, and have consequently won first prize in the lottery of life.

    That answers the question succinctly.

That was true in the 19th century but now it's the booby prize. Might as well have been borne in Pakistan.

  3. Got my tgf a passport yesterday. Great service. We just walked in about 11am. Got a ticket number within 5 minutes. You can judge roughly what time your number will come up so you are free to go home or go shopping and come back to finish the application. Total waiting time about 30 minutes and the passport is posted on. A million times better than the previous full day trip to bangkok.

  4. Post #37 made the point but i think there must be a bubble coming soon to Pattaya. A lot of condos must have been targeted at Russians, many of whom must be having problems to complete any purchases. If you look at the gulags being built along 2nd Road Jomtien no one in their right mind except a Russian would buy one of those so i think they will struggle to even get finished. At best there will be thousands of finished condos not sold. Maybe the developers are rich enough that they don't care. Many of the better placed ones are asking 100,000 + baht a sq m. Crazy money for a 3rd world country.

  5. My 8 year old Samsung 55" LED semi-smart (series 3) is starting to go on the blink. My next TV will be the curved OLED. Anyone bought one?

8 years and it's already on the blink! typical Samsung. Try Sony or Panasonic next time thumbsup.gif

My 32 inch Sony is 8 years old and cost 55,000 THB back then. Now it s screen is looking on the blink, I prefer other brands.

Each to their own, but i'm always seeing and hearing Samsung products having a short life span

in comparison with Panasonic and Sony which i also believe to be superior quality.

Nowadays they're all in the same price range too.

My Samsung TV only lasted 2 years, i would never buy another Samsung.

  6. A couple of days ago the base manual model of the Attrage priced at 443,000 was offered to me with a discount of 30,000 baht for a cash sale plus other freebies-not bad thumbsup.gif

That's a great deal but personally i think it's worth paying the extra 50k and getting the next model up with alloys etc.

  7. Mitsubishi cars

Engine is rougher than most silky buttery engines. Fuel consumption is one of the worst. No reliability issues, most of their set up is from previous models with proven reliability. You can own one without worrying about fixes other than usual maintenance. Inside the cabin, you will be faced with cheap hard plastics, and a lot of them used. You might want to research on the....... "toxic materials" used in cars. Mitsubishi has ranked as one of the most in toxic materials. Honda surprisingly has received the top score, even above Lexus, Mercedes, and bmw.

Some wind noise even at 70-80km/h. Poor sound insulation. Nice cheap maintenance. Steering better than Toyotas.

    I think that's it.

    You left out extremely ugly!

Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder but i honestly think these are great looking cars (for 500K). Tell me what other car at 500k looks so much better.

  8. I've had my Atttage for 9 months and very pleased it it. I tested a number of cars before buying it and it's at least as good as the Vios/Yaris/Amaze. It's one of the best equipped cars for the money (i paid 500K). Where else would you get alloy wheels, keyless entry, push button start, folding electric mirrors, ABS etc for that money. Only had one service but that was very efficient (and cheap) at their modern facility on South Sukumvit. Fuel consumption is @ 12 kpl around town, 18-19 kpl on a run which i'm sure is as good as you will get with any car. Spacious enough inside and a very big boot 450 litres. What's not to like.

  9. Sorry I have no up to date information on driving schools but I doubt they have changed much. They usually provide the vehicle for the test which is included in the lesson cost. As you will have read in the other threads one of the major issues is that a lot of the instruction is just to teach them to pass the 5 minute practical test - which in itself is only a very small subset of driving a car.

You could take her to practice at the Sports/Exhibition centre or whatever it is called on the east side of Suk the next crossroads after Makro. A lot of the schools seem to use the car park there for lessons. Also you can (or could before) drive around the back of the building so making a complete circuit without hopefully any other cars in the way.

If you find someone good please let us all know.

Just finished getting the girl her license three weeks ago, and it was a great move and the school seemed to be very good :

On Pattaya klang across from foodland

Purchased ten hours, multiple teachers to choose from, girl tried a few and then closed on one and was able to book in advance with him.

They provide cars for driving and accompany students on the test day.

The appointment can be a bit annoying, in the system still many looking for favours and she to her credit did not want to do that (nor I), so it took a few weeks of stop/start to get appt. I do not feel that the school is the issue, I think it is the ministry, but cannot confirm.

Her test day, they start with 100 students. First up is practical. A full 80 failed that.

The remaining 20 then completed the multiple choice testing. 16 of 20 failed.

The four remaining that passed both practical and written were my girl and her three school pals, all were from the same school. So a great outcome for them. Has to be noted that about 20 from the school went that day, so still a high failure rate, but the glimmer of hope was the four.

She has been driving since the first day, I have not touched the wheel since...long awaited break. I am truly impressed how well she is doing....highway skills better than central pattaya but too be expected, take time to get used to all the moving parts on these busy narrow streets.

Great outcome so highly recommend them.

Bought her additional ten hours now so after a month he can see how she is doing and jump on bad habits before they get ingrained. I spent about six months just talking her thru the process while we drove, so she had some awareness it. But I could not do the teaching, best investment I have made in some time, I am firmly in the passenger seat and loving it....will only now switch for pleasure driving...the heavy lifting is over lol.

Glad to here she is doing well thumbsup.gif

My gf also used them. One can hope from what you say that things have changed (with the DLT centre) because when she went 8 out of the 20 or so only went to have their photos taken - no tests of any description having already "paid" via the school...........

Yes a friend of mine "paid" to get his tgf a licence without any sort of training/testing. Needless to say within a few months she wrote off his milliion baht car.
