  1. I've known Greg personally for over 8 years. He is a truly nice guy and has been a very responsible "citizen" in our neighborhood cleaning up messes left behind by worthless developers all by himself... and when I say by himself I mean just that. He goes out and uses a brush cutter and does the work in the hot sun. He is a vegetarian and has his own garden where he grows his own food and he does not drink alcohol. He is much nicer and a better person than 80% of the foreigners I've met in nearly nine years of living in Hua Hin. He genuinly offers to help people he knows if they need it, looks out for others in the neighborhood and their homes when they are away, provides employment through a company he set up here for a couple of Thai families and provides them better living conditions than a lot of foreigners have. If he did do something bad in the past, he has certainly changed his ways and has been a good man ever since I've known him.

I think this may be a case of getting involved with the wrong crowd. It will come out in the trial, but I'm fairly certain that all he did was be employed by this group of accountants who created a tax avoidence/evasion scheme for wealthy people, as a sales person so to speak, in that his job was to find wealthy clients and introduce them to the accountants.

That photo is horrible. He doesn't look like that in real life. It looks like they did their best to make him look like a criminal or wacko.

I for one wish him good luck and hope to see him back in the neighborhood soon.

Excellent Post ..Thankyou . Someone who actually knows the gent . A little different to the general reaction .

My understanding is he was proactive and asked authorities would he be charged ..they could not answer him and now he gets this ! Guilty until proven innocent the way this Story reads .

I certainly wish him well , and also hope he is back in the neighbourhood soon , Which would not be suprising .

Please pass on my best wishes , if you have the chance to communicate . Kop khun krub .

Plus ... If he had half the money that " they seem to think " , Im sure he would be able to Stay in Thailand . They ( Australian Government ) just want to charge a few " High Profile " individuals , who used perfectly legitimate means of minimising their Taxation Obligations . You could pretty much guarantee this poor guy has no where near the $$$$ that he is accused of Stealing ( Fraud ) .

Dont be suprised if there is no case to answer ..Its happened before .

Look at the directors of all the plantation timber companies ..walking around , Super flash Homes , Super Flash cars ..Money in the bank mach mach ..These are the guys they should be focusing on . Not trying to bring this poor bloke back .

One particular Director comes to mind in the above , unfortunately this cannot be spoken about with regard to Him / Her . While they try and throw the book at this poor guy .

  2. Same old scams.

    Same old extortions.

    Same old rip offs.

    Same old corruption.

Same old lack of action by Government here to fix what is clearly having a negative impact on the tourism industry and on tourists in general.

The Sydney Morning Herald is a very widely read publication and website in Australia. The article doesn't describe Phuket as a great place for a holiday, especially the death statistics towards the end of the article, although some of those deaths would be from natural causes.

If Phuket truly wants to "brand" itself, it needs to raise the quality of the product they are advertising and marketing to the world, or face a declining market share in the future. In fact, I would say they have already lost a lot of the western tourist market to rival places in Thailand, and neighbouring countries.

Through this article, and many other similar articles, the Australian and British Government are informing their citizens that Phuket is not a quality product/place for a holiday, yet nothing has been done at a local level to address the issues that has plagued Phuket for years.

From memory, I can not think of any other tourist desination in the world where the Ambassadors of two countries have to go to the public media to release safety and security warnings to their citizens. The amount of victims here are obviously draining the Embassy's resources to cope.

The general attitude of officials here is it's the tourists fault for getting scammed, robbed, extorted, assualted etc. They view tourists with utter contempt.

I, like many others, have given up hope for positive change here. That said, the only question that remains is, just how bad are they going to allow it to get here????

Sad to see a great place slowly slip down the S bend.

So True and what an absolute Shame , this was my original destination in Thailand , and I absolutely adored the place ..Even Patong at the time , gradually I become far less enthusiastic with regards Patong as this appeared to be the " G- spot " of all corruption . But it appears things have begun to get far worse .

Although Highly unlikely ..It certainly is time for a " Re brand " . And as Ive told all Australians previously NEVER for any reason attend Full Moon parties , this has just become an event where Nothing good EVER happens ..only problems .

And Yes , I did chuckle at " Aviod Lanes ... poorly lit Soi's ..Crowds ..Markets ..ha ha ha .... So Im going to spend my 2 week holiday in a Room somewhere ?? ..Oh Dear . It really has hit crisis point unfortunately . Especially Tuks Tuks and Taxi . Be extremely aware Aussie Tourists .

  4. As someone still paying Australian taxes, I would support and expect an aggressive response from Australian tax authorities when tax evasion is suspected, which seems to be the case here. I'm just an ordinary tax payer, and I end up paying more when the rich evade their tax obligations.

So Im asuming you reside in Thailand ?? What Australian Taxes are you paying and Why ?

Many here are quck to render this individual guilty , lets just wait and see as to whether the case even goes to Trail first . We here with the information provided would have no idea with regard to the Deail in this Case .

Lets not be too swift to comment , justice will be done in time .

  5. White collar crime carries a very short sentence, unlike drugs and other offences. White collar criminals are respected the world over. I think we all see a part of ourselves in someone that can perpetrate a "Ponzi" or other such scam. Don't you wish it was you, come on now, just a little bit maybe.

Yea right ask Bernie Madoff about short sentences.

Different Countries Mate ..And vastly different circumstances . One is called the USA , this is Australia .

Madoff , ran a " Lifetime " Ponzi scheme ... this guy appears to be involved in ..Who knows what ??

Allan Bond did 4 years . This Guy might do 2.5 years on the Prison farm , his true punishment maybe that he

    cannot return to Thailand .

  6. This is far from an Open and Shut case , the Headline is really misleading . It will be a very diificult case to convict I believe , and in the past he has asked Authorities if he would be Charged and they could never answer him .

Well , lets justice take it Course , and lets see what the Court decides . But he in innocent until proven guilty , lets see if he has a Case to answer first .

The biggest white collar crooks in Australia , are walking the Streets freely ..and there are many of them ..high profile cases . Wish I could say more but Madai ..they are too powerful .

  7. What is the mindset of these people? They go to a party with hand guns, and home made grenades?

What will they bring if they go to a political rally? What will they need to go to war?

What is wrong with this country?

Whats wrong with this Country ? ..The same of whats wrong with many places ..

Dare we even bother talking about handguns ? ..And exactly where this logic came from .

I get a bit frustrated with lines like " What is wrong with THESE people ?" ..Often wonder why some wish to reside here , then purely look to the negative . Its not a good Story .... BUT it happens in many places ..Brawls and gunfire , its really easy to be critical .

Gun Control in the USA ( a big influence on topics like this ) will hopefully create a new " World view " over time , but certainly the GUNS must go , thats a really good start . Unfortunately , these really large functions do seem to generate problems , therefore this is another area .

But lets not condem everyone ..there's quite a population out there .

  8. Too Many Guns unfortunately , but fortunately he was unable to afford the amo .

I think the Farang was rather wise not to press charges , Its really hardly worth it and he may not have been " Just " a Tourist .

Watch those " Beach Girls " Mr Farang . I think you'd be better in the Bars , although the same could still happen ..And maybe next time " Grope " in private . But really its a terrifying thing to have a 9mm Pistol pushed into your head .

  9. I think may be because the gun is too easy to find in Bangkok .

Even in the hospital from my own experience

    1. the patient came to the hospital he bring his gun this time no accident happen

    2. The worker in hospital bring gun whil working ( I don't know why ? ) finally he shot himself accidentally !

May be hospital is not the safe place as people think any more .

Correct , and it has a great deal to do with it . Its shocking seeing the attitudes in Thailand follow that of the Wonderful ..

US of A ... Where people as the question ( quite seriously ) ..Why didn't they turn and shoot the Batman Movie killer ?? lol lol ..

Absolutely wonderful Logic !! ALL guns , should be outlawed , there are way too many individuals with Guns in Thailand and the situation needs to be cleaned up quickly . There is no reason for any individual to be carrying a Gun on the streets of Bangkok , Or taking a Gun to work in the Hospital . Get Rid of the guns and you straight away get rid of 90 % of the Problem . Far Too many Guns .

  10. Story from a Dogs point of View is quite touching . Although Stabbing someone around the Ears over a Disagreement ? hmmm probably not , Im sure there is a lot more to it . Unfortunately , this story may encourage others to " Train up " their Agressive Dogs , and as has been said before , the last thing Thailand needs is MORE dogs ..particularly agressive ones .

If the comflict was Really " Over Dogs " ..perhaps the individual would be alive if " Neither " had dogs in the Snooker Bar . Although , lets be HONEST , Its highly unlikely the argument was over Dogs .

LESS dogs needed Thailand ..thats LESS .

The dead guy might suggest that LESS aggressive people would be more important.

Less Aggresive People Would also Help ..Naturally , and I felt I indirectly covered this . The point however was that this Story was being told as " Dog protects master " ..Google " The Dog Sat on the Tuckerbox " ..Same deal . However , Its not unlike an Individual that Walks the Street in the UK or Australia , with some SUPER aggressive Dog as ( generally His ) companion . Why is he doing this ? What story is he relaying ? ..We all know his penis is small and getting smaller ...

The presentation of the Story , leads us to consider the Argument was over dogs ..( This in no way excuses the Idiot humans ) ..However , if Dogs were the Cause ???? One could well Argue , a Knife behind the Ear , is a large price to Pay .

But , I have commendation of the Dog , or Some Bravery Award ..Nonsense pure and Simple .

LESS DOGS ... LESS VIOLENCE ... calm " SNOOKER " bars .. The outcome is far from positive .

  12. I live in Sattahip area, and in my village I have the same problem, 2 dogs from my neighbour are always free in front of my house, they attack me and my wife several time, expecially when we use the motorbike, we complain already 3 times to the government (once I sent my lawyer), and to the manager of the village, but nothing change, cause the family owner is a Navy and they have friend in this area, I am very tired about my situation, and some people living here too, because one of them, the big one, run like a crazy, and every day there is a risk of accident with kids, with cars or motorbikes that use to go in and out from the main entrance gate...I love dogs, I have two dogs too but I use look all of them because I respekt my all neighbours when I walk with them, and they never poo or pee inside, but I live them do in the jungle!

I know that if I drive my pick up in front of my house and the dogs are free is NOT my responsability if one of them will finish under my car, like the Government officer and my lawyer say to me, the owner of the dogs must to take care and look at them ;-)

Some respekt and understand to the german man, nobody know until you have the same situation!

You can see the pictures of the big dangerous one here...nobody scare?!?!

Sounds extremely Scarey , and intimidating . And this dog is a dog of Class !! ..It has its own Collar .

  13. If it was a Thai doing it, we would not have heard a word. My wife was at a wake, and a guy beat his own dog to death. This inspite of all the women screaming at him to stop. Police were there and didn't do a dam_n thing.

Absolutely Correct ... Although possibly the Thai would have Baited him , or Trapped him ..and Ohhhhhh " Gone " ..

Wheres the Dog ?? " Gone ' ..Mai Palai ..No one would be too concerned , and probably the owner would accept the unwritten Law .. Farang , needed to be a little less obvious . But quite incredible that the story is worthy of so much comment .

  14. no, you are wrong i read it

but i read it that the owner had complained to the police

that does not follow that the police spoke to the owner of the retriever

you are only assuming they had spoken with him and the owner had neglected to adhere to their advise

whilst i think that us old campaigners know that if you want something doing by the police that is not urgent, it costs money

i would have been more inclined to believe the German if he had said that he had paid the police 1000 baht to go and have a word with the owner

in the absence of that assertion its just an assumption especially in a cross force issue, Police-Navy

Maybe the police had not been to see the Thai...but I'm pretty sure the German had told him that he'd made a complaint. A warning had therefore been issued by the German and it was ignored by the Thai. As I walk my dog I often come upon Thai owned pet dogs on the loose. Their dogs start barking at the sight of me and my Lab coming. 90+% of the time the owners hear and come out to control their pet on the loose. The fact that they do that shows that they recognize my right to walk with my Lab on a leash unhindered by their pet. It may not be law, but there is just a glimmer of knowing that a dog loose on the street is "just not right". But as soon as I'm gone that glimmer disappears and they let their dog loose again. If the German had not been somewhere near right in his complaint to the police I doubt that they would have listened.

Again I say let the children blame their father for the death of their pet. It is his irresponsibility that is the root cause of this tragedy.

so how come you are pretty sure he knew?

    you are just ASSuming

maybe the Thais rush out to get their dogs away from you as they have seen the reports on Channel 3 of farangs savagely killing Thai owned dogs for sniffing the arse of their falang owned dog

    stupid statement?

Maybe, but that's what the Thais will think

this kind of overreaction by the German does not help Thais perception of farangs

Because knowing many Germans here I would not think them so stupid as to make a police complaint and then not tell the plaintiff they had done so or were going to do so. Your comment about Channel 3 is far beyond belief. I have been walking dogs here for over 6 years and my comments are based upon that experience not on something that has just happened.

Maybe you enjoy having your ass sniffed when you visit your local man bar. My Lab does not take so kindly to it.

It really is quite incredible that this is such a Big deal .

Yet try being a Street Dog , and showing so Anger around any local province ..You want last Long !

What happens to them ? Who knows ..but they just dissapear . Ask a local ? ..they will tell you .." No Good " and laugh .

I love Dogs ... But they cant just roam around causing Danger ..Biting , terror , Fear ..Someone must take responsibility .

  15. If the Retriever owner was responsible and the dog was tethered or locked in then this would not of happened the guy reported it to the Police who as usual did nothing and eventually the guy got sick of it and took care of the situation, if the do is attacking people like that it could just as well of been a child THEN WHAT.

The dog in my next Soi that I HAVE TO PASS to exit the Moo Baan always charges me on my bike like a rabid animal my wife is terrified and scared to take the kids out unless its in the car maybe this dog is NEXT

Anyone got this guys Cell phone number

Be Responsible and keep your dog under control and this won't happen.

    DK

Have been in exactly the same situation ..So Many Times , and look fairs fair ..You should not have to Tolerate this . Your Wife is too Scared to take the Kids Past ... No matter how much you say you have love for Maar , you should not feel challenged in your own Soi .

I would investigate the options ..You shouldn't have to put up with that .

  16. I can't even fathom the type of insecure wimp that would own a dog like this.

    544689_346020685468206_1533791746_n.jpg

or the anonymous coward that would call him out

Often do wonder the reasons anyone would keep a Dog like this ..However , thats fine ..so long as they accept the responsability also .

You cant just have Dangerous , aggressive , territorial dogs roaming around . Because many Dogs Roam free here many are rather Passive ..But , Its a Pack animal , and you do sometimes Strike some angry ones .. If they are not being taken Care of , generally they dissappear . It would be considered Natural Elements ..Cars / Bikes ..Etc etc .

  17. Maybe the parents of a small kid will never forget the sight of their child mauled to death by a territorial aggressive, untethered Retriever....

and what does that have to do with the thread?blink.png

Ownership of a large dog brings some responsibility's with it.

on is keep the animal at your premises and not letting it claim the hole street in front of the house as his territory.

It does certainly ... and the thought that the animal should be free to just Roam around and harass people ..Nope .. No Way .

This Dog is no great Loss .

  18. I doubt he could have drunk all those bottles, he would be so whacked after the first he would barely be able to reach out for another. Similarly hardly likely his body would not retch it all back up. But there he was poor bugger, roses in hand on the bed, peacefully passed away. Hmmm...

Agree , he could certainly do say 2 bottles , if a fit 27 year old ..Be hard to do more than 2 .

The scenario is possible , but yes ..really needed is the Toxicology Report , this will answer all . Hopefully its done properly .

RIP ..Very Sad , especially at such a young age .

  19. And of course for anyone who's had a Go at that Whiskey ..Its extremely potent / Dangerous Suff . I strongly suggest just sticking with the Weaker likes of Seagrams 100 Pipers .

Huh? you do realise that spirit alcohol all comes out of a still, identically all over the world?

Maybe thats where the alcohol comes from ..But the % age , and other potential nasties are the problem !

Not sure if you are talking about some moonshine type brewed Thai whiskey but almost all the Thai whiskey I see being sold is less than 80 proof (40%). I've personally never seen anything stronger and just assumed it was maybe the law here. Although I am not a big whiskey drinker, I always thought whiskey usually was stronger than 80 proof while typical well vodka, gin and such was 80 proof. When we were young and wanted to get messed up we'd buy Yukon Jack or Jack Daniels which I both believe were typically about 100 proof.

When out with the extended family here and get caught up drinking Thai Whiskey, I have always been surprised at how unstrong it is but it usually leaves me with a nasty headache and feeling like crap for at least a day after drinking it. The actual drunk isn't bad but a few times I've felt like I was on speed in terms of being drunk and wanting to pass out but feeling like I took some sort of speed.

Im talking about Both to be honest ..Now , correct me if Im wrong ( and someone here will certainly know ) The most popular brand Hong Thong , I always thought was stronger than 40% proof ..But maybe Im incorrect .

Moonshine ..yes you are spot on , I tried many years ago ( Would not touch now ) ..Black Cat , with none of the government Seals ..Now that stuff makes you dont only Drunk , but Sick .

In the photo of the guys room Hong Thong bottles everywhere ..But , let me cheerfully admit ..I dont drink Whiskey at all anymore , and certainly not a Thai Whiskey , although Im certain its an aquired taste . I did have it in my mind that this is stronger than the likes of 100 Pipers ( from 7 /11 ) although , Im far from certain because I dont drink either ! ( Anymore ) :)

  20. And of course for anyone who's had a Go at that Whiskey ..Its extremely potent / Dangerous Suff . I strongly suggest just sticking with the Weaker likes of Seagrams 100 Pipers .
