  1. Maybe insensitive but he has a point. There is no bikinis or even swimming suits worn by locals at local beaches and only a few westernized thais wear them at tourist places and then much bigger than western bikinis. Unfortunately.

The only thais you will see wearing western bikinis are pros looking for a custumer or already with one.

Told this years ago by the wife saying girls in bikinis are putting themselves in danger. Most loso thai men have little respect for women and just see women as meat.

The shorts under skirts are worn for a reason.

I agree unfortunately , and I'm very sorry for the families .

The Above sums it up , its extremely rare to See a True Thai girl in a Bikini , either a Bar girl ..or in some Farang resort .

Have always thought , always in the Tourist areas ..I wouldn't walk around like that , its really important to have some respect for the culture ,

and while I appreciate the comments might be insensitive , and to a degree Blaming the Victim ..

You cant just act like you do in Farang land , and this extends to extremely brief Bikini's .

  2. Having been flogged, in the UK, repeatedly, every week, from 8 to 18 for 'General Attitude' ie not subservient to 'authority' (and I sure was a bolshy kid),I can assure you it results in the most obdurate, antisocial, unlovable human being on earth. I am amazed I have survived.

Well done for being Around , and what a shame that you cant be granted an official apology ( From someone ) ..

Your point is so very true ..Wishing you well .

  3. In the early 60's, in Sydney, I was canned all the way through my first 3 years of high school. Mainly due to minor oversights/mistakes, such as forgetting homework, being late, talking in class etc. So did a lot of other students. We weren't bad kids, we grew up to be decent citizens. Corporal punishment was the norm in those days. Minor infringements "3 cuts of the cane", and for more serious, "6 cuts of the best". Unless some real damage was done, no use talking to parents, it was the norm. It was not classed as "assault" by the cops, unless some damage was done. There was one teacher who always did the caning, the Deputy Headmaster. He was a sadistic bastard, always had a grin on his face. We called him "The Bug", because of the same shit-brown suit he wore everyday for 10 years. I hated him and still do 50 years later. Thank God Australian kids don't have to put up with these assaults anymore with the outlawing of corporal punishment. I would have kneecapped any teacher who canned my son when he was in school.

Some people may comment that corporal punishment should be reintroduced in Western countries. Pig's bum. The issues rebel (and normal) kids have these days would not be corrected by canning. The issues would be compounded and made worse. Parents/teachers/governments/social workers should consider the influence of drugs, domestic violence, constant mental bombardment from violent computer games and movies, before canning (for any infringement). Violence has become acceptable in many weak minds.

    So True ...

I was also , " fortunate " :) to grow up in this Era , the Thought being ..Belt the c*ap out of them until they Submit .

Have you ever heard more Nonsense ?? What happens in reality , after a few Canes the pain in Forgotten ..

You have a higher Threshold , you become ( indirectly ) more Violent yourself . The Individual becomes far more

likely to assault his Wife , Feel its okey to Strike his children ( Its didn't do me Harm ) ...

Or even potentially throw the " Sucker " punch ..Violence and assault of Children , is NEVER the answer .

Personally , I address parents in the community who strike ( they call Smack ) their Children , the counter argument is

" Its my Child ..My Right " ..HELLO ?? ..sorry , its a life you are dealing with .

  4. Punishing a young kid like that for forgetting his homework, it downright sadistic....Hope the teacher loses his job and ends up in having to scratch a living in boystown......Violence breeds violence- it's not right to punish a child like that.

Nice to read a Little Logic .

Its simply not good enough , and its not the Role of the so called " Teacher " . The Individual , should face far more than just the Loss of a job .

This Crime is Related to Molestation .... Its to Show power and influence , the individual concerned must now face the relevant consequence .

  5. The worst possible offence .

There is never a reason to Assault a Child , or molest a Child . The Two are Comparable .

To those foolish replies who no doubt say " It didn't do me harm ..It taught me discipline etc etc " Sorry ..

Simply utter utter B/S ..How would you know ?

There is NEVER a reason to strike a Child for ANY reason , It doesn't work ..And over time such violence breads Violence .

And If you are That OLD , that you truly dont understand logic , Go on Facebook to your Old School Site , and the Various teachers

Look at the Damage caused by these individuals , you will quickly learn .

From there you can progress to Church groups , and Charity organisations , You will quickly learn that Violence ( Striking ) in any form against children , is completely linked in numbers to molestation . So re think the rubbish that " It never did me Harm "

For How would you know ? ..Masses of damage has been caused by such Violence .

  6. I have to say. There is definitely a trend here.

There's a big change on the cards in Thailand.

This is just paving the way.

Before the end of this year the retirement visa will change.

Sent from my SM-N9005 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Dislike Agreeing .... but I reckon you are Spot on . The Drastic changes are Slowly Building , and it appears to be going one way .

Getting more and More difficult . The Visa Run first ..Then the retirement visa , not of benefit for the Kingdom I would have thought .

Things are going to Change .

Again, for those that still don't comprehend, it isn't the ID requirements, we can all live with that, it is the FM 28 which YOU as a foreigner have to fill out regardless of whether or not hotel etc. fills out FM 30 or not. And jeez, now we even have one of the "if you aren't doing anything wrong you have nothing to fear" crowd on here. Brother talk about not knowing nothing about anything.

I'm not so sure on this.

Could someone knowledgeable confirm 100% if we still need to fill out a TM 28 form if staying in a hotel which reports your current address online - like nearly all the proper hotels do.

If that were the case then you would need to inform immigration before you left your last address, otherwise they would have two different addresses for the same person on their databases.

Multiply that by TAT's figures for travelling tourists, and the odd ex-pat on an away-day, and the whole system crashes out.

As with most of the changes that have been happening, on the initial release of the change there has been a lot of misinformation spread by people panicking/over-reacting to tit-bits of information. At present, if you are staying in HH you should be paying attention.

Certainly no need because of this news to say, right, that's it, Cambodia here I come! Fullstop to that....................tongue.png

This won't affect those such as myself who are living in Hua Hin as I'm already registered with the immigration department.

I entered my passport details into the immigration system myself on behalf of my 'landlord' at the house I rent and I have a 90 day report to do in Septemeber.

It might however affect people who live elsewhere in Thailand outside of Prachuap Khiri Khan who travel to Hua Hin for a few days if their hotel doesn't register them. I doubt it though.

Can I ask ..What if you decided to Stay at an Alternate address in Hua Hin for 3 Days ? Either Visiting ..Or residing in a Resort ..

For whatever reason ..   extremely confining .

  8.

It sounds like out immigration office had a talking to from upstairs and are doing some CYA.

All longstanding regs, frequently ignored. Carrying an ID is a good idea in any case. Everything else pretty much falls out except the bit of visiting another province and reporting yourself to the police there. My guess is that no one will really concern themselves without, and it'll be taken to be covered by your place of lodging.

Same same, just everyone's a bit nervous now.

The thing is, if this is only being enforced in Hua Hin and you already live there and are of course registered at your current address then it won't matter at all if you leave Hua Hin and go to a different province unless they are also enforcing this new rule.

It will only affect people who come to Hua Hin from other provinces until it goes nationwide if it ever does. Even then I suspect it's all work that's done by the hotel. This notice was addressed to people who run hotels and rent out accomodation.

I go on saturday.. Staying in a villa.. Whose responsible for what now ??

Me ??  flipkey ?? the rental agent ?? the house owner ??

What a Great Question ? ..I reckon the answer is ...Who Knows ? or all of the above .

In my Old Days ( as a Tourist ) I used to have 2 Rooms going at once ..Did it properly with Passport Copies Etc ..

So in this instance ..Which room do I register ?  ... Or would doing this be illegal ?

          Surely Not .

Correct ..But if it goes National , and you had a Farang Friend staying , it must be reported  .

There really are many problems with the implementation of this idea . Extremely confining .

  11.   There are any number of Problems with this , if you want EVERY tourist walking around with Photo Id ..

The potential problems are quite obvious . When I went ( alone ) to the Beach on a 3 month Alternate address , I carry Nothing

You want every Tourist walking around with a Passport if He / She does not have a Drivers Licence ? Its really not a good idea

and will well add to the potential for more ( rather than Less ) Corruption , particularly in the Tourist market .

Happy to attempt to Clean things up , but this will end as a revenue raiser .

  12. Hundreds lost their life saving because of his pyramid scheme. Skip the country when convicted for corruption. He has many business and personal enemies. Too insignificant for any political assignation. Case close.

In The West , many individuals basically guilty of same walk free .. So many Schemes .

However , was it really worth it ? ..Actions like this on either side can never be condoned .

Many Pyramid Schemes , and Ponzi schemes remain legal though out South East Asia , and the Western World .

Im sure many famous brands come to mind .

Karma ? ..Maybe ? ...But , its still not the way to deal with it .

  13. As others have said , this also absolutely breaks my Heart to see this happening .

I was warning everyone ( who would listen ) 10 years ago , but they thought I was just a Crazy Farang , trying to explain

that fast food companies are just as bad , and maybe worse ( for premature death ) than the Tobacco industry ..

everybody used to say .." Ohh Mai Palai ..Just Nid Noy Okey " ..Madai .. Nothing is okey , I was devistated to see these Chains

( While such awesome food is available ..everywhere ) Take Over ..and Over and Over , first in Tourist venues and now everywhere ,

Thailand , just like Australia , as the Middle class has Grown have become Fatter , and fatter ..and Fatter ..

No age group is Immune , Its NEVER okey to even purchase a Coffee from these places , just dont give them a lifeline .

Only need the look at the " Wonderful " freedoms of the USA , Australia ..( at the top of the list ) , Its a disgrace .Horrendous diet ,

computer games , and No exercise is a recipy for one thing ..EARLY DEATH . Forget the argument of " Free enterprise " , save the

people from themselves . This really is simply Shocking .

  14. Yes it is possible if you are carefull.

The Pension Service will send your pension to your bank account in Thailand.

As said, your pension will never increase as long as you live in Thailand.

As for long term Visas/Extensions ? You need 800,000 Baht in the bank or 65,000 Baht monthly Income or a combination of the two. Unless Married to a Thai.

After encountering so many folks (Brits) on TV talking about their pensions do not meet the minimum 65,000 baht/month for a retirement

visa in Thailand -- I'm wondered why U.K. state pensions so low?

I'm not trying to be a smart-alec, just honestly curious. Are U.K. state pensions something like social security in the U.S? Something

separate from regular retirement from a regular job?

Not just the UK , but may others places .

With many many more to follow as past pensions become either impossible to fund . Or were never correctly funded in the first instance .

Been some really good information here , have enjoyed reading the Thread .

  15. Respect for Gen. Paween. It shows that there are any good police around too that aim to do there job honestly and just.

Looking at his picture he looks honest and straight forward to me.

I hope he has back up from the highest army General and will be able to carry on his good work. If General Paween succeeds he will be the hero of many tourists, locals, expatriates, business man, hotels and many others. Only the maffia does not like him bit they are a minority and will be in jail.

Congratulations General Paween, please keep going. And on behalf of many: THANK YOU !!!

Couldn't Agree more ..Wishing you Well General Paween .

But , Im sure you know ..It aint going to be easy , this is deep rooted corruption .

  16. And can they sort out the taxi drivers at Hua Lamphong train station that refuse to use their meters. I've even heard other taxi drivers complaining about it. Really needs sorting out.

Very simple, get out the taxi like people I know or read on this forum, if they refused to flag the meter down. There are others who are willing to flag the meter. If everyone does take this action whenever it happens, very soon such taxis will have no customers.

Always ask "meter" before you get in ,saves a lot of messing around.

No get in before you tell them to turn the meter on.

Works well in Bangkok no doubt , always use this principle , Often takes 2 - 3 Cabs but thats fine .

Not always as easy in Phuket , airport is okey if catching cab , will go from Meter .

What about the Mini bus Scam desk before you get out ? 400 Barht at the desk .. 150 Barht outside the Door .

This is the Image a first time Tourist see's as they leave the Airport . Not a good honest welcome .

  17. This was my point in yesterdays post ... When we going to get to Patong ??

The problem would be , if done properly , there simply wouldn't be a Taxi , Tuk Tuk , Motor Bike Taxi ..left .

Its all a giant swindle in Patong , and the way they go about their business is horrendous .

Walk the Strip from Patong ..Kata Beach 200 barht ? ( still a rip off ) ..No , No , No ..Then after walking around the Corner

up comes the next in Line ..Get in ..Get in ... Same in the Taxi's .

Yet alone the poor Tourist , who jumps in ( 5 of them ) , then driver says the fee is per person . All this stuff , just shouldn't

be happening ..Argue the Valid Fare , and then things really get nasty .

Just avoid the whole lot of them .

  18. Motor Bike Taxi , from Phuket Bus terminal to Patong ..

" Ohhhh , much more long way than I'm thinking ..Which way I go "?

Sure Mate , give you 10 barht and take me to the bus stop . Often often inconvenient to aviod these guys , but the whole system id flawed on the Island , Tuk Tuk , motor bike , registered Taxi , unregistered taxi , so this really is just scaping the surface .

Still at least its a Start , but this would take some massive changes to Clean up .

I must say the " Rip Off ..least " to get to Golf , where the unregistered guys with a 1/2 decent car , but still Crazy fee .

Next time in Phuket , will still follow the " avoidance " rule .

  19. Must Say I think the Thai land ownership rules make a lot of sense , look at the Map ..Its a small land mass

and it makes sense that Thai's own most of it . If you dont wish to Stay , thats fair enough ..enjoy whatever you do .

Absolutely no problem with being called Farang , its far from Racist , being a Tad too sensitive there .

Its a wonderful Lifestyle in Thailand , at an extremely low cost ..More than happy to Rent here , choose to own in Australia .

  20. Really , I'm not sure the general had any other Options . The Alternative is hardly worth thinking about , and by taking absolute control he can asses the situation , and work towards a situation where there can be another election .Unfortunately , the alternative I believe would have seen more conflict , and more disruption . I believe it makes sense and was really the only option .

Its going to need some time , On this occassion , but at least ( Generally ) the people will be safe .

  21. The seriousness of a coup and subsequent curfew and all they think about is themselves and MONEY. Image has nothing to do with it. Tourists are not allowed after 10pm and they understand the reason why. What about all the thousands of nights there hasn't been a curfew - when Bar and restaurant owners have been making a killing?

What about someone running a legitimate Restaurant in the Middle of Town ? paying all the higher rates that are associated with Phuket ,

these owners also have to cover the high costs , its not exactly some license to make money , its extremely difficult and costs are high .

Would you really be happy about being declined your right to make a legitimate living ? Running your business is some kind of Crime ?

Naturally , the owner would want to work , to keep staff on , earn a living , pay the rent ..etc etc etc ..It all goes around .

Think its unfair to assume that all are a part of the Super Rich , the vast majority are hard working , small ( tiny ) business owners

just trying to make ends meet . There are only a reasonably small number of Mega Clubs , who could maybe cope with Closures like

this . Reality is , its a week to week proposition for most . So naturally they dont want business slowed down ..Plus Bangla is only

one tiny part of the Island . What about Phuket Town , Kata , and many other areas ? these are also affected .

Bangla , has all the danger and Sleazey elements ..But , yes , Its also a whole lot of fun ..Once in a while anyhow .
