  1. I have also used my Thai drivers licence successfully in the UK but what I want to know is does your Thai drivers licence have to have 6 months left on it as with a passport?

I am planning to go to the UK ( my home country ) next year but will only have approx. 3 months left to run on my Thai licence.

Do I need to get a new Thai drivers licence and to that question I add CAN I renew my Thai licence early?

    Thanks

  2. I did my extension last Friday.

I'd had just over 400k in my acc. since May although a slight error at bank dropped it below one day for a few minutes!

I picked up a bank letter and statement 2 hours before going for extension.

The statement was for only 6 months and although the earlier receits showed FTT the later ones showed moved from other acc. I transfer about 50,000 baht each month.

I had also downloaded a statement from my British bank and took copies of the annual letters I get from my pension suppliers.

I copy my wifes blue book alongside her ID card and she signs it to say I'm her husband and we live at that address. No TM 30.

Copies of everything else in passport.

I had been worried for the last few months and was on the verge of using agent but decided to try it. Friday afternoon is good because there's almost no-one else waiting, it took all of 5 minutes!

    Job done until next year!!

  3. While on the subject of how long money has to be in bank I had a slight problem at my bank the other day and wonder if this will interfer?

I went to withdraw money from the ATM but because it would not release funds I had to go to the counter. ( ATM had run out of 1000 baht notes )

I asked the cashier for 49,000 baht still leaving more than 400,000 baht in my account.

Some how she issued 94,000 by mistake!! I redeposited 45,000 into my acc. but for only a couple of minutes my acc. went below 400,000.

Am I likely to be penalised for what was the banks mistake?

  4. The 13 months seems to have come from a previous poster!

Even so, with my visa due in Nov. and me only doing a monthly transfer of funds from my English bank starting Feb. That only makes 10 months!

In Jan. I transferred more than 200,000 Thai baht from the UK and before that a same amount last Oct.

I know how picky the IO's can be and although these transfers are more than a regular amount of 40/50 000 Thai baht each month, it will undoutably be picked up!!

  5. I am wondering if my application might fall down for the fact I cannot provide a bank statement showing a monthly income for the last 13 months!

Until the demise of the embassy letter I used to send my money from my English bank to my Thai bank when the exchange rate was favourable. This meant a gap of maybe 3/4 months then send £4/5 000's.

Since Feb. this year I have been sending over each month an amount equal to 50,000 baht.

It all seems like they are playing games which I don't find funny these days!

  6. Simple question, no need for long drawn out replies!

Will Jomtien Imm. accept application to extend O visa ( ie. retirement ) using the combo method, proof of income ( using bank statement ) and money in bank?

Done this for last 15 years but now cannot get letter from British embassy!

I have asked this before but now I am much closer to date of visa and wondered if anyone had gone this way in the last few months?

    Thanks in antisipation!

What do you expect the agent to do for you?

If you started transferring 65k baht from outside the country now you could do your extension based upon income. Chaeng Wattana will accept just a few months of transfers to apply for the extension this year.

Or you could put a 800k baht in the bank for 2 months before the date you apply for the extension.

Or if you have transferred less than 65k baht every month then you could use the combination of what you have transferred in with money in the bank to reach a total of 800k baht. For example if you have been transfering in 50k baht that would be a annual income of 600k baht and then you would need 200k baht in the bank for 2 months.

Seeing as how you have mentioned the Combination I would like to know if this way of extending my visa is still acceptable?

I use the IO at Jomtien and have been using a pension letter plus money in the bank for the last 15 years. I somehow got the impression that they were no longer accepting this way to get your extension. Since February I have been sending over a regular monthly amount of money hoping that ( along with money in the bank to make up the 800k ) I would be able to use a bank statement in place of the embassy pension letter.

I thought that I had read a post that said Jomtien were no longer accepting this.

Can you throw any light on this please?

  8. I have lived in my house since Jan. 2003.

It was new when we moved in so everything inside was unused!

I didn't take much notice when the kitchen tap started to leak, my wife pointed it out that there was a fine spray coming from the side of the spout! The tap is both hot and cold BTW.

I bought a new tap and fitted it.

I don't remember how long, probably 3 or 4 years when suddenly one day the end of the spout fell off and landed in the sink!

Again I had to buy a new one and fitted it, the date, which I then took notice of was 29 Nov. 2013.

Almost 3 years down the line and again a spray of water from the side of the spout! The date 18 Dec. 2016.

Now this is getting ridiculous! Not only am I fed up buying new taps ( they are NOT cheap ) but I'm getting too old to keep on getting under the kitchen sink to fit new ones and who in their right mind would trust a local plumber to do the job!!

I began to realise that the problem was the metal these taps are made from, white metal which is generally soft and most likely porous!

So I went in search of a better quality tap!

I asked if they were made of brass or stainless steal to which I always got an affirmative answer!

Eventually I paid 2500baht ( 50 quid back then ) for a tap I was assured was brass under the chrome plating!

To cut a long story short the chromium plating in a few spots has eroded and Hey Presto water is coming out of minute holes in the spout of the tap!

I won't mention the name of the maker ( PM me if you need to know ) but can someone, maybe a plumber, try to explain to me where I can buy a H&C kitchen tap that will last for many more years than the last 4?

Sorry for the length of this post, it shows my frustration!

  9. I now have no problem showing 400,000 baht in a Thai bank but my question is "How easy is it to now get a visa based on marriage?"

    I will explain:-

Back in 2004 when the Immigration office was in Soi 8, I wanted to change my extension to one based on marriage. I was told at Soi 8 immigration that I could not do it and was instructed to find other means to make extension using the 800,000 baht or pension method which I have been doing since.

I now want to use the visa based on marriage to Thai lady option but am worried that I will still run into this same problem.

We were married in Bangkok in 2000 and renewed our vows in the UK again in 2000 so we have 2 different marriage certificates. We have our own house and have been continuously together since.

    Any help appreciated!

  10. Hi, sorry if I'm in the wrong forum!

I am taking my wife to England next month ( she already has visit visa )

It's been about 16 years since we lived there and even longer since we entered at Heathrow.

I have heard many guys say that when they arrive at UK immigration they take their spouse through the same channel instead of sending her through non-EU channel.

Can anyone verify if this is allowed as I don't want her to have to start queuing again if she's in the wrong channel!

    Many thanks!

  11. Thankyou t o g  for your reply. You are correct when you say it's not an interview but just handing in the paperwork, it's been many years since I had the worry of doing the same.

As I said, it's the 4th. time my friend's GF as gone through this procedure but this time it' seems to be taking longer than before. I am sure you are right that they'll hear within the next few days but they cannot help being worried that the visa is being held up somewhere or that it may be stuck somewhere in the Thai post!

    Appreciate your reply, thanks.

  12. My friend, with my help applied for a visit visa to UK for his GF. Everything seemed to go through OK, payment etc. and on the 7th. of this month she went for her interview.

She was told to expect a reply within 10 days and was also given a number to use with Thai post to check whereabouts of reply letter.

This is the 4th. year they have applied for a visa, having had no problems before and the visa and passport arriving on time.

Obviously the visa has not yet arrived and my friend is getting worried because of the flight time getting closer. He has already changed his flight once!

We tried to access Thai post with the tracking number given but no luck as Thai post just came up with "PENDING"

What we would like to know is if there maybe a delay or backlog or something that is delaying the delivery of this pp/visa?

Looking at the receipt my friend has it seems he paid for a SMS also to be sent along with the cost of postage. Again no SMS has been received!

We would be grateful for any thoughts concerning this.

    Thanks in anticipation.

  13. In reply to JustAnotherFarang.

I bought a Honda GXV 160H2 almost 4 years ago.

It's the best mower I've ever had!

I also had a Briggs and Stratton and although I used it for nearly 10 years it constantly broke down.

I also bought a Bosch electric which was actually made in UK by Suffolk Colt thinking because it's British it'll be a good'n!

    Wrong!

Back to the Honda, it sounds like the same model you're thinking of buying ( push model, not self propelled )

I bought it in Pattaya 10/10/2013 and it cost 12000 baht so maybe you should look at the mower shops before you order from Lazada!

  14. UPDATE: I Just went to do my 90 days report. Last 2 reports were done on line with no issue. I recently got a new passport and transferred my visa to the new book. Everything updated fine EXCEPT 90 days reporting. Seems the left hand is not talking to the right hand. In order to use the online 90 day report you must leave the country and return...or trot your happy ass to immigration every 90 days.

Side note regarding the bruhaha over a new form asking for all kinds of personal data. I filled out no such form and saw no one else filling anything extra either.

I renewed my PP in Feb. this year and did my 90 day at same time. ( Previously I had done online reporting for 3 or 4 times )

Because it was new PP I wasn't sure what paperwork I would need so asked and a guy copied 12 sheets out for me at the copier.

When I presented these at 90 day counter along with my PP they were handed straight back so what I want to know is do I need any paperwork for my 90 day as my details must be on the computer?

BTW I tried to do a 90day report this morning and although it allowed me to enter my details, I was then presented with a little note telling me to get details from Immigration!

    Thanks.

Quote of my reply to the post your quoted. "I have mentioned previousl getting a new passport requires a new entry to do online reports. The database is from entries and a immigration office cannot access it to do changes.

I have the same problem but have not bothered to do a border hop for a new entry."
It seems you have not completed the stamp transfer from your old to new passport. That is handled at a different desk than 90 day reporting.

I beg your pardon Joe but I DID transfer the stamp from my old PP to my new one! All these "quotes" and "multi quotes" can lead to misunderstanding but I can assure you I have done everything in compliance with immigration.

I even asked at the 90 day desk if I could do my next 90 day online and was told "Yes!"

Sorry for omitting that I had transferred the stamp!

  16. The whole thing's not needed anyway as you have to go in person to apply and collect the passport - it's needless busy work for the pen pushers.

Not sure that is strictly the case....http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/854355-uk-passport-renewals-thailand/#entry9828412

I used a Visa service so I did NOT have to travel to Bangkok either to take in my old passport for renewal or to pick up the new one when it arrived back!

Ok, the fee for the service was 5,000 baht but I thought that was worth it to save me 2 days of travelling into and out of the city along with the skytrain etc.

  17. As many people on here, everything is in my wifes name, so when it came to renewing my British passport last month I was unsure what to do about proof of address.

I know I could get a letter of residence from immigration but that would need translating and I try to avoid a trip to Jomtien if I can.

I do 90 day reporting online so when it comes to printing off your next appointment there is an option to print off the information you gave to immigration.

I printed this off ( it's in English ) and it was accepted by the passport office. Job done.

Sorry if I've duplicated someone elses post, thought it may help.

  18. I'm sorry I have not read every post in this thread! I read every one in the thread about proof of address for renewing British passports and still could not find an answer!

Then, looking through my mountain of paperwork I found copies of the "Pending" and "Approved" letters they issue on the Thai Immigration website when you do your 90 day online.

I was wondering if these could be used as proof of address?

They are official paperwork, are written in English, contain your Thai address and the barcode.

Does anyone know if these can be used to confirm your Thai address?

Thanks and sorry if this has been asked before!

  19. There are conflicting posts here about whether you need a medical cert. or not!

Could someone who has renewed their 5 year licence recently please tell me if I need a medical certificate?

I already have a 5 year licence for car which expired on the 12th.

I want to renew this for a new 5 year licence.

    Thanks in anticipation!

  20. I appologise if this has been answered in the last 35 pages but could someone tell me how to print out ( or at least where to print out ) the form with the next due date for 90 day application after one has been approved?

I have received the approval email and printed off a form that contains my passport no. etc but there is nothing to tell me when my next application is needed! Ok, I can work out 90 days for myself but would like to print out the correct form.

    Thanks.
