  1. My pool is about 10 x 5 metres, kidney shaped, 0.85 mts. shallow end down to 1.80 deep end. It's been fine for over 2 1/2 yrs. Now this new pool-man as increased running time for filter. Before it ran 2 sessions of about 4 hrs. each, now it's 2 sessions totalling about 11 hrs. What time do others run their filters and is there any need for this increase? :o:D

  2. Green/black pattern, wide stripes across its head. A bit of googling suggests 'Chrysopelea ornata' or Golden Tree Snake. Is there any other snake with similar looks or can I assume that this is what I am dealing with?

Although your pic is in b/w it looks very much like the one I get often in my garden. As far as I know it's a tree snake and it's harmless, saying that I'm terrified of snakes but I wouldn't harm this one, just like to know if it's there in case I put my foot on it. We had one in the mango tree for weeks, then one day it's just hanging there. It looked like it tied itself into a knot and couldn't release itself so it died. :o

  3. I have the same problem, ie. visa dated 22nd Nov. passport runs out 14th. Nov. 2006. Does this mean you lose almost 1 year of your passport?

    Your from the UK right?

UK citizens recieve a credit of up to 9 months on their new passport if the old one has not expired. See below extract from the UKPA website.

To encourage customers to apply early we now offer a facility that enables applicants with unexpired validity in their old passports to receive a credit, up to the nearest whole month (minimum of one month, maximum of nine months) in their new passport.

Correct! Thanks for your reply,so do they just tack an extra 9 months onto your new passport? :o

My passport expires 14th. Nov. 2006 I need a new passport before 22nd. Nov. this year for visa, so I have to apply for new passport about Oct. Can I get new paasport more than 1 year before old one expires? :D:D

  4. For UK Citizens...............Why tell the 'DHSS' you are living in Thailand in the first place??? Just have your weekly pension paid into a bank account in the UK, and withdraw it once per week from an ATM in Thailand!!! The DHSS will be 'non-the-wiser'. And they would never find out, and that way you will get your pension increase just like everybody else in the UK. And if for some strange reason they ever did find out, and believe me they wouldn't unless somebody 'grassed', you could just act ignorant to it; "well I didn't know you couldn't do that Mr DHSS sir".  :o

You're right and it works for a lot of people, but I'm worried as to what will happen in future when all our details are on the back of one of those new smart ID cards they're going to introduce. How much information can they glean? What happens if you have to renew your passport at the UK embassy for instance, surely this info is recorded somewhere? I've never had much faith in the European Union, but after all we've paid in I think we should get something backand that means parity with the rest of the EU.

  5. It's amazing that the UK is the only Euro country not to increase pensions in certain countries in line with inflation. I wasn't sure, so asked the question. So now what is really upsetting is the fact that the EU want to force every other stupid law on the UK but something that would benifit so many people is never mentioned. No wonder the other Europeans are keeping stum on this! :o:D

  6. I was just thinking about the problem we Brits have when we retire to LOS of no GOV. pension increases in line with inflation etc. Do expat pensioners from other EU countries have the same problem? I have never read of anyone from France, Germany, Italy etc. ranting on these forums about this and wondered if it only applies to Brits. then why aren't we tackling this through the European courts, when everything else that affects our everyday life goes this way? :o:D

  7. Seeing as no-one else is trying to help, I'll throw in my 2 baht worth. We are looking at a holiday in NZ in the future and I've been looking at package tours starting and finishing in NZ organised by NZ co's. The prices for these and airfares booked seperately seem to look about the same as the few prices we've seen for complete package tours from LOS. Just do a Google and you'll be surprised how many firms are offering tours and accommodation at all kinds of prices. Hope that helps. :o

  8. Hi,

My brother and his wife came out to see me last winter ( my brother is 71 ) I booked them in at Ambassador on Suk. Rd. for the first week because they said they wanted to travel around later. They liked it so much, they stayed another 10 days. The Skytrain station is almost on the doorstep so they used this to get around Bangkok. It's also possible to book trips from the hotel where the tour co. picks you up at the door. I was very surprised but they said it was so easy to get around. Just before Christmas they came to Pattaya where I'd made a reservation at Sabai Lodge, Soi 2. They transferred to new part on Soi 1. Here again they enjoyed, being within easy walking distance to beach and shops. They were in Thailand for 6 weeks and enjoyed every minute. Hope this helps.

  9. Don't blame the tyre makers, it's that stupid rule about using the same tyres for the whole w/end that's to blame. Spend millions making race cars safe and then send them out on used tyres! Only idiots drive their road cars on worn-out tyres! If they want to slow the cars then put a limit on how much fuel they can use during a race ( think they did this some years ago ) at least they would stop in one piece, although I don't personally agree with these restrictions. F1 is becoming a parade instead of a race, Bernie and the rest of em only consider their wallets and not the paying public. Maybe if the supporters deserted the next few races in protest the FIA would get the message!! :o:D

  10. Did anyone have a problem loggin on to forums Sunday?

I could get Thaivisa homepage, but when I clicked forums I got a typed message about being unavailable ( should have copied message ) Thought maybe Thai police deemed this site inappropiate for educated people and added it to the 1000's of other sites you can't view. LOL. Or was it just a case of that well known ISP Poxinfested up to their usual tricks? :o:D

  11. I've stayed at the Ploy a few times, but like you wouldn't reccomend it. There's a small hotel about 100 mtrs. down the road, but again it doesn't look as good as the Ploy. I did notice another hotel but can't remember the name. If you come out of the Ploy and turn right, go down the street and round the right hand bend as if you are going towards Kham-cha-ee and Kalasin, before you get to the traffic lights there's a hotel on the left. Thinking of trying it myself on next trip. Apart from that one, the best hotel I can think of is at Nahkon Phanon - "River View" but it's a few miles north. Sorry I can't be of any more help. If you find a good place, let us know!!

I know Jeremy Clarkson is not everyones ideal presenter but this program has got to make a big change from the general rubbish we get on UBC. So for the next 6 weeks or whatever, just sit back and let it all hang out!! :o:D:D

  13. I've been offered the rental of a 2001 Toyota Corona for 9,000 baht a month. Just curious if anyone has enough knowledge to shoot that in the foot, or call it a fair deal.

    Thanks

    ExNewMex

So what about insurance & breakdown cover? A car this old, if it's been thrashed, may spend more time off the road than running. Also check the ins. If it's a case of you got to tell the cops you only borrowed the car if you have a smash, it might be worth taking out your own cover. Just my 2 baht worth. :o:D

  14. Can anyone recommend a picture framing service in the Pattaya area?

Need good quality and reasonable price.  I have one original oil painting given to us by one of the GF's relatives and I'd better get it on the wall soon or she will have a tantrum!

      :o

Naklua Rd. Soi 19. About 30 yds. inside soi on right hand side of road. Loads of little yapping dogs in front yard, but this guy does a good job. :D:D

  15. I just saw some Grolsch yesterday at the Villa near soi 33/Phrom Phong BTS station.

Also Chimay, Clausthaler, Erdinger, Sapporo, Budweiser, Guinness, and I don't recall the rest.

The only Beerlao I've ever seen here was smuggled in.  I'd dearly love to see it at my local, but alas, it'll probably never happen.

    jb

I was speaking to local bar-owner this afternoon, who told me he would have to charge 250 baht for bottle of Chimay. I've never tasted this, but at this price wouldn't bother. Clausthaler, as I recall is nonalcoholic, so what's the point? Of the rest I'd only be interested in the Guinness. So what price they want per pint? If you've got to drink fizzy p!ss, then Beer Chang is probably the best! :o:D
