  1. Slow internet connection ? ... As far as I know, you need to be online o use it.

I might not be a computer wiz but I do know when I'm online and I can access a speed test to see if my speed is OK!

I think the problem may be linked to my HDD which as suddenly reported that it is nearly full when I know absolutely that it should not be.

I've done a virus check and a disc clean-up but when I look on My computer the C drive is showing in red with only a couple of gigs spare.

I have looked at everything on the drive but cannot find anything that would have filled it up.

I have used CC cleaner but after the drive showed less free space than before I started.

The HDD is not old having been replaced under warrantee about 2 years ago.

Does anyone have a better idea?

  2. I cannot be sure of the exact date it stopped working because I haven't used it for a few weeks but when I tried to open G/E the other day nothing happened. After a few tries I uninstalled and reinstalled but neither the program or the shortcut would open the site. I have again uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times with one time getting it to open but then sticking with a blurred picture of earth although it would zoom in and out. I have asked the question on Google about this problem but being a layman cannot get any solution to work. If anyone can point me in the right direction without me needing a degree in computers I would be very grateful.

The only things new to my computer recently have been Windows 7 updates and Adobe updates. Anything I downloaded regarding G/E I have uninstalled.

    Thanks in anticipation.

  3. I use Spybot s/d which I ran, finding nothing. I also did a virus check with Avast, again clear! Then I decided it may have something to do with the fact my email is set to "exclusive". It has been on this setting for sometime. I changed it to "standard" and as if by magic my a/v does not pop up to tell me it has detected a problem. So I guess the problem was coming from hotmail or whoever owns this thing now!

  4. Hi, can anybody help? Starting this afternoon, OK am., each time I try to login to hotmail my avast a/v pops up with a warning about malware being detected and locks up hotmail. I use firefox but the same thing happens with IE. My OS is windows 7 ( genuine ). I've tried to sort it out but I'm not a techy. I did a restore but I still get the same thing happening. I can stop it and use hotmail if I disable avast. Everything else seems to work although I did lose all my bookmarks and some sites seem to have changed appearance.

    Thanks! Anybody?

  5. Something to be careful of if your friends are as you say late 60's/not too fit. The waterfalls are an easy trek but when you get to them they have many steps going down. Not too bad until you start to climb the steps back to the top. Whew!!

Another site that seems interesting is the bat cave. There is one north of the park about half way to Pak Chong. Again the walk is not too difficult although about 3 klicks through the jungle. Except when you get there you have to climb 200/300 feet up a mountain side and if you wait until the bats appear it's dark when you need to climb back down!

Plenty of accomadation north of the park, restaurants and some entertainment. Only worth one day/night in my opinion.

So you are suggesting they walk 3 k's and then climb a mountain to see the bats that everyone drives out in front to see with a much greater view ?

Read the first sentence of my post!!

  7. You need a landline for TOT. Unfortunately I don't have one.

Well it was pretty good for 1 1/2 days but at 2 pm this afternoon my BTV internet crashed again and I have had no internet ever since.

Anyone else? Or is it just me ?

    Thanks for any feed back.

    Hi Mobi,

I live quite close to you but I don't know if BTV was OK or not yesterday afternoon as I was out. Last night it started disconnecting but seemed OK when I went to bed. This morning it was disconnecting every few minutes from 6.30 until about 7.45. I always think this is when BTV staff report for work, discover a fault and fix it. (It has happened before) Right now (9.23) it is working but at a reduced speed to that I have been recieving these last few weels. I have been quite happy with BTV for the last 3-4 years having used T N T before that.

Hope things pick up soon !

  8. Called at floating market yesterday to look around and walk off lunch. Entered carpark from road alongside railway tracks and surprised to see it almost empty. When we tried to enter market we were stopped and asked to pay. My Thai isn't good but I understood they were asking for money and I could see the turnstiles you are supposed to go through. One of my friends, a Thai lady spoke to them and told us it was free for Thais but 200 baht for everyone else. Needless to say we turned around and left. No wonder the carpark was nearly empty!

  9. Hi Mogy and thanks for your reply. It does make sense what your saying but in the case of my friend, he has no kids and only uses the intenet very sparingly. I've been getting on at him for years to upgrade to someone like BTV.

He lives a way off the road so used the dongle instead of paying to have a cable run. I was wondering if there's any work going on with AIS in the area as up to a couple of weeks ago he didn't have this problem. Even his mobile phone can sometimes play up !

  10. Help ! I'm making this inquiry for a friend who cannot connect to the internet.

He is trying to connect using a dongle and AIS.

He lives about 1/2 mile from Maprachan lake.

The sim card has plenty of hours left on it but just lately connection has been very flakey.

Does anyone in this area use the same method for connecting to internet and do you have the same problem?

Any useful advice or information would be gratefully received!

    Thanks

  11. If you are a F1 fan you have to get the new Truevisions HD box and watch it in HD on ESPN. Fantastic picture and lots of coverage. Only problem is the adverts. What more do you want, better than being there.

Bear in mind that if you are on the "Gold" package you cannot receive ESPN HD !!

If you go to channel 109 and forward the time to 1850 it does show F! coverage but it's more than likely either True or ESPN will make a complete <deleted> up of it !!

And why would that be likely? So far this season and the last god knows how many years we have been able to watch the F1 on Star Sports via True without any problems whatsoever.

Why !! Well last night they used channel 109 for broadcasting Olympic cycling and weightlifting, transferring coverage of F1 qualifying to channel 136 ESPN HD !! That's why !

Hopefully tonight they will show F1 on channel 109 although they have it also advertised on channel 136 ESPN HD.

I also got to watch the Sky coverage this morning but as rixalex says, it's sods law that the result will be shown before we can watch the race!

  13. must be one of these 2 locations...

I have a Thai friend who is a teacher at the temple school on the righthand side of 3240.. i will check out the lakes the next time i am visiting him.

I went to location A and it is indeed a temple and school complex. Just to be on the safe side we asked some people if it was OK to walk around. Yes! The place was almost deserted, a few Thai guys doing a bit of grass cutting etc. We took the walk down to and around the lake and then back to the temple. Not a great distance, took less than 45 mins. We asked if it was possible to walk in the opposite direction ( NW ) but were told no!

Nothing spectacular about this complex ( quite modern ) and we were also asked if we had a dog with us so I presume dogs are NOT allowed! There were quite a few houses amongst the trees and people were building shacks down near the lake. They thought it really funny that farangs wanted to walk around even though we told them it was for excercise.

In all, not really worth the effort!

We drove up to location B but felt like we were intruding into peoples lives so just turned around and went home.

  14. Some months ago there was a post about walks. I've tried to search for it but no luck.

This walk is just off road from the 3240 towards the Khao Mai Kaeo X rds. with the 331

I've looked on Google Earth and there are 2 locations which could be the place.

If anyone knows about this walking area could they please post any thoughts or advice about using it.

Is it safe, public area etc.?

    Thanks in anticipation.

  15. A word of advice, sorry if you already know this.

2 stroke engines can produce a lot of smoke and unfortunately a build up of carbon especially in the exhaust.

Some 2 stroke oils are worse than others doing this.

When I first bought my weed-wacker 9 years ago I used a cheap brand and after about 1 year it needed a decoke!

After, the guy who fixed it told me about using a better quality oil and recommended Castrol 2T Activ something or other and not to use as much as the marks on the filler bottle indicate. Since then I have only used Castrol and only about 1/4 to 1/2 the marked amount. It's not needed another decoke and no problems with using less oil.

Probably bought the oil from Tesco or similar.

  16. Hello

thanks for your info, but i can easily clean my own pool ...as for my thai wife ??? do i need to explain to you how difficult this would be. i work abroad so i need to employ someone to handle this while i,m away.

currently getting charged 2,000 bht, for about 10 mins work each visit, twice aweek.

    som nom na.

You wife could probably handle the job as good as some of the pool cleaners I had to put up with before I decided to do it myself. I found myself having to train a new cleaner every few weeks whilst still paying for the job to be done.

2000 baht is not a prohibitive charge if the pool is kept in good order. It's better than paying less and finding every time you want to use your pool there's a thick layer of green slime over it!! The choice ius yours!

  17. If you want your pool cleaned on the cheap, do it yourself!

It's not as hard as it seems, you can buy the chemicals and test kit for about 3,000 baht, enough to last about 1 year with your pool size. If you don't have the telescopic pole, flexible hose and vacuum head etc. these will set you back about 6,000 baht.

The cost for someone to clean your pool would be about 1,500 to 2,000 baht per month so you will save about 9 to 15,000 baht in the first year. Total time to keep your pool clean - 2 hours per week max.

    Job done!!

  18. They used to tell us if we sat in front of the TV too long we would get "square eye balls!" Obviously this was nonsense and I read that yours eyes would let you know when you had been viewing long enough, making you feel tired etc. Now, as a pensioner, I'm experiencing a "tingle" in the back of my head that I am putting down to eye strain through spending too much time in front of the monitor and the TV. So I guess it means your body knows when you've had enough and not to exceed the dose!!
