  1. Cheeryble

You must be a real noob.

The Thais have a far worse view of their own police force than the foreigners here. If you think that Thais are scrutinising this forum looking for negative comments regarding their own police, you are seriously mistaken.

Stay here a while, open a bar perhaps, learn to read the Thai papers and you will discover that the police are systemically corrupt. Money has to be passed up from the bottom to the next rank above every month. Where do you think this money comes from? Father Christmas?

If you open a large pub in Phuket, you will be paying the police a hefty sum every month, I guarantee it.

Spot on with the 'money must be passed from bottom to next rank'. However, the farang owner of the Drift Inn on Phuket pays nothing. No Thai front girl either.
  2. Simply another 'must have' marketing ploy. 'You have still a desktop? Oh, I have a laptop' smirk.

In the list of Ten Things Not To Buy Second Hand is a laptop computer. They bomb after just two years. As to all the offshoots, tablets et al. Yes. Very handy for an on the go business type, but completely unnecessary for those of us who prefer something longer lasting, more adaptable, and prefer to watch something downloaded/accessible on the net, than a subscription tv.

  3. The OP sounds exactly the type who is somehow unable to take their bloody foot off the acceleration pedal when approaching anyone or anything. 'I am in MY CAR and YOU are merely a pedestrian who is in MY WAY when I WANT to drive like a bat out of hell as is MY RIGHT as a DRIVER' of a lump of metal which protects me and NOT YOU so GET OUT OF MY WAY'.

The OP is an egotistical selfish asshol_e.

I'd agree, except I'm sure he'd slow down for a human being. He just thinks other animals that annoy him (by being in the wrong place) are deserving of death.

How are you sure, exactly? You seem not to walk anywhere very much from this assertion? Perhaps you should get out of your car and try crossing a road sometime.

Fair enough. I could be wrong about the OP, but somehow suspect he would be in prison if he was equally as happy to run over a person as a dog.

Well. That was a non comment really worth posting in order for you to have the last word, wasn't it.
  4. Ah, this 'hang 'em like dirty dogs blink.png ' is so prevalent of the mindlessset of the majority of the expat contingent here.

State murder, er execution, is barbaric. Name ONE civilised country still enforces this 'punishment'. Go on. Just ONE. And then please do follow up with any evidence it has any detrimental effect on any of the mealy mouthed (kiddie fiddlers? drug mules?) crimes stated above.

  6. The 'Thai MALE' brigade, as if they were a different species. Never see 'The German Male, The English Male, The Swedish Male'.

Could be something to do with the various farang 'males' being a tad jealous of the FACT Thai women, given the chance (and many do, agreed?) prefer The Thai Male over the farang Male.

  8. If you do not like the content of a thread, please feel free to not read it instead of whining about it.

Quite. This thread isn't about the moral or immoral aspects of downloading from a torrent site. THIS thread is about whether or not PB is up and running or not. If YOU want to open your OWN thread on the legal/moral/immoral/illegal aspects of downloading from torrents you're free to do so, and stop derailing this one! <deleted>!
  9. I hope you people are true and the storm is really weakening because I land in Bangkok for the first time in my life tomorrow.

HA, HA, HA, boy are you in for a surprise. Just where a raincoat to Soi Cowboy, you'll be alright.

The storm's already broken up over Cambodia and this poster isn't a sex tourist. Most of us posting on this forum aren't, you know. Just the vocal minority.
  10. And back to the OP and the original point of this post being that Villa's prices have risen exorbitantly, I was in the Villa on Phuket a week ago and noticed how everything had leaped in price. It was astonishing. My friend put it down to the influx of Russians chucking their money about and pointed to the fact that there were some item specifically labeled in Russian.

Not sure about this theory ermm.gif , but I only used to buy Rocket salad as only one sells it locally, together with their expensive bread and good choice of booze, and ... THAI tea (Lemongrass/Pandanus etc) which, at 105 baht a small tin is still way above the Big Bag you'll get in the market in CM. But Villa's the only place I can get it. Not even any of the Thai markets have it here huh.png So left with a couple of tins and nothing else. Won't bother going back and it seems many others'd made the same decision. Hardly anyone there for a Sunday.

As to the post complaining about translating the prices from THB to GBP, it's a good idea, just to get some perspective. That's how so many go broke so quickly 'Oh look, only 500 baht' Yes, that's 10 pounds. 'Whaaa?'

  11. How many posters, over the years, some many, have seen this very same statement of intent 'to clean up corruption here'?

It is good that people make their feelings felt. But even in the case of K. Dusadee, where Thas' were equally incensed, nothing has been done to reverse just this one man's departure.

It is truly sad for the population of Thailand, but, if no one is willing (as I myself have done) to stand up to this endemic corruption here, in small or large part (Thai, marches a la Mexico et al, we farang cannot), nothing will ever be done. Where is the drive akin to keep at bay the likes of Taksin? They can effectively co-ordinate resistance toward just one person many deem a potential threat to their way of life, why not a much more pressing danger to their country? Are they really that myopic?

  12. As stated above several times, this compensation for the family should be in addition to, not as apposed to, criminal charges.

You forget where you are. Do you believe this asshol_e would've given any money to the family if he'd thought for just one moment it would even get to court?

As an aside, I find the photo of this kid's mother at the policeman's funeral with her arm's bare distasteful. Or is respect merely the preserve of the poor?

  13. My observations are on how hard it must be for a young thai lady putting up with older farang husband- w

    Pity their thai wives.

Even if a given expat is the world's scummiest waste of space, the female knew this beforehand and no-one forced them into it. It's all money, money, money and, though cringeworthy to see, I do not pity these gold-diggers one iota as it is all on them.

    Bitter much?
  14. Had a similar situation myself here in Kathu. Height limit in my area is 10 m, and the lot in front started construction of several houses that would have exceed 15m height with major blocking of my view. Checked with the amphur office and limit was still in place but the builder claimed he had the permit to build. I suspected the usual Thai golden grease process at work but then the builder ran out of money and the work was abandoned with only some concrete columns in place. A few months ago a very different person bought the land and he has a very eco-minded plan, well within the height limit, so hopefully my problem is moot.

For you the first thing would be to check with the amphur building permit people to see what the limit is. Hope that you know enough to keep it very low key, nicey nicey Thai style, don't identify the specific item and don't complain about the specific problem. Just establish the fact of the building limit in your specific location. These do change and such may have happened. Or a bit of grease may have eased the skids. What to do after you have the facts is very sticky, good luck.

Hmmm, that's another point, the actual height in meters. A very ugly condo in the next soi seemed to have gotten around the 3 floor limit by building the three floors on very high stilts. Eyesore.

I really did mean it re Thai and farang neighbours having had ugly slabs of sky high concrete slung up right alongside their homes and feel for them. However, since posting this have had some builders turn up one day and disappear the very next close to me. I'd asked one of the guys 'gee chan' 'how many floors' and he'd replied 3. But this could quite possibly be the same as the 3 storey-built-on-stilts get around. We shall see.

Thanks for the info, particularly regards the height in meters. Even if money's paid, the OBJ will have to reverse the decision if enough kick up a stink about it. They seem to have no qualms about setting about demolishing illegal builds anywhere else. Time to bring out the wrecking balls. They're ruining this once lovely area.

  15. dont make it easy for them, dont go and live in their village dont make a will in her name, have car and any assets possible in your name, dont have life inssurance for them to claim, not saying anything will happen but it keeps temptation out of their minds.

If you are married to a Thai woman and you love each other, then why wouldn't you make a will with them as a beneficiary. It would be stupid and paranoid not to. If you have so little trust in your wife that you have to act in such a paranoid way then you shouldn't have got married in the first place. In fact it is better that you stay in your own country if you're so paranoid about Thailand. Instance like this are rare. They also happen in UK and USA.

You have any stats to back up your anonymous online assertion that as many of these types of killings happen in the UK/USA? Or are you just pulling it out of your arse?

Read the newspapers and you'll see plenty of stories like this.

Which 'newspapers'? That where you, no, wait laugh.png ... get your 'facts' from?
  16. How long will it take for many men of a certain age here start to wise up to the fact that the types of women are from a diametrically opposed culture, straight off the paddy field, bamboo shack, and who have never before seen the like of that which these types of men are prepared to divvy up after a one night shag. Seriously.

Can't count how many men I've seen return from their first meeting with their intended's family upcountry, totally shell shocked by the squalor in which they live and then come over all surprised when said intended and family start treating them as ATMs. Wise the <snip> up.

  18. The age might not be a taboo but the marriage is! Good luck!

The age is most certainly not taboo (although posters on this forum would have the OP believe otherwise to salve their conscience, insofar as the majority on this forum are old enough to be these women's grandfathers).

I have known many THAI men marry older THAI women, with or without children.

I would add that if you are so concerned about your perceived notion of 'appearances' regarding someone you profess to care for on an open forum, you are either a Troll or the lady would do better to look elsewhere.

  19. "How much you want to pay" and taking the calculator.. I normally refuse to deal with these kind of sales people.

Then again. If you have a bit extra time and wish to give a payback, play stupid. Make your start offer triple the value of the goods or the taxi ride. Notice the greedy eyes on the other party. Be tough with your price.. and let it go a bit higher. Then when it's time to close the deal. say that oh.. I forgot that I don't have enough money for the item. If the other party drops the price at this moment, just say something like "oh no, I can not agree with lower price. It would not be fair for you.. you would loose money" .. and then walk away with few wais.

Then again, if the other party says at the start that you are offering too much, then you might have a possibility to make an real deal.

Well. What the White Man you are. I've seen people like you and felt ashamed for your attempts at 'I'll show the little brown man what's what'.

I too refuse to negotiate with the 'how much you pay' contingent, up to a point. But to take pleasure in watching the disappointment in their eyes as your ego kicks in truly sickens me. I had a friend who'd set out his stall way out of any market area, was asking very reasonable prices for the QUALITY goods he sold, when some Italian had him set aside several items and then offered 10 baht an laughed and walked away. asshol_e.

  20. <p>

I don't know, I haven't spoken to him since the idea, as I am not in Thailand at the moment, but if it is a private company and he uses his own private van, (as they did with the Limo) does he have to register as a taxi? I think not, yes I am aware about these mafia idiots, but Patong is his home town, plus he is very well connected, I don't think they will be a problem for him....

The registration is the smallest problem, this guy will face. He need to be IN the taxi mafia, to do business, that is affecting the mafia. What means: If he can run this business in Patong without problems, he won't have problems, to park in line with the cans on the Patong Roads, too, me think. No scratches, not mirrors fallen off, to flat tyres! What would make this 'good' guy to a part of the , eh, solution.

with enough word of mouth and internet marketing etc I don't think he would even need to park in line with these guys, like I said he has enough connections to get in anyway, I don't think that would be a problem for him, but that's for him to sort out anyway. I think he could be a valuable asset for consumers visiting Phuket, seeing as it's his home town he has plenty of suggestions and knows where he's going, and he is fluent in both English and Thai, so there won't be any language barriers, and he was also educated in England as well as graduating high school and business school in Phuket, so I can see many plus signs for the customers here.

Okay. Fabulous idea. Tell 'him' to go ahead and please do come back with a progress report.smile.png
  21. Gone or PaulJones, do you know if the papers have to be handed over face-to-face by the police, or is the mail good enough?

    Thanks to those actually helping.

Okay. Here's some actual from experience help. Get 'your friend' to speak to the British Embassy (the only outfit all the many and various admins here actually sit up and take notice of) to inquire on 'his' behalf whether there is an outstanding warrant of arrest for 'him'. Easy. Dear God ...

As an aside, I do believe 'your friend' should stay put. There're enough fools here as it is.
