  1. ramming the point home to all that Thailand is a haven for criminals, a land where you can make millions in illegal activities and not only escape prosecution but become a public figure and politician off the back of your illegal exploits.
But that's true though, isn't it. And the likes of Chuwit isn't going to change that reality any time soon. There's always more ...
  2. In case there is a crisis? Think this plan is a little late

Thailand should focus on what they need to attract tourists

Get rid of scams and mafia style operators, more tourist attractions

such as large scale casinos and amusement parks and water parks.

Instead Thailand is stuck in same old same old

Large scale casinos, and all it's attendant problems, and no wait ha ha, 'amusement' parks, and water parks. Where do you think this is? Bloody Blackpool?
  3. The misunderstanding may have been the result of excuses made up by uncooperative officers who don’t want to do their jobs, he said.
Bullshit. Anyone who's been here for any length of time knows the Thai authorities have been covering up this crap for years.

Having said that, Phuket and Thailand per se, are relatively very safe places to live/visit. It's simply that law enforcement here is virtually non existent.

  4. Not sure, but believe the OP's post was regarding, overall, the fact that, no matter how nice a Thai woman (the word 'girl' is telling, how many posters would refer to a farang 'girl' rather than 'woman'), is the lack of cultural similarities , conversation, shared experiences, knowing where the fck their country is located on an atlas is, and so on.

    It's a size-ist thing, 40kg Thai lady = girl, 150kg American lady = woman

As for conversation ......... what else would you want to do with a 150kg woman?

(PS only comparing my previous and current wife, nobody else)

Nah. Not buying that. 40 kg is a pedophile thing. I'm 51 kg, not a lardass yank woman, same same the men, er, boys.

  6. I realy do understand Op point that it would be nice to feel relaxed by the visa and I think the 90 day report will be just by letter or even email in the future for all,Just found out today for exampel that in Phuket were I live at the moment i can send my 90 report by letter(ED-visa) so I think there slowly come changes. But one thing is very importent that most of us forget, its not a right to live in Thailand,we are guests here, and there country and there rules, take it or leave it.Sure it could be better for visa and other things but I have made a choice to live here and then i have to take it as it is.

The ridiculous and pointless 90 day 'report' (does anyone seriously believe the Russian 'mafia' whatever crim contingent) trip up to Imm every 3 months?laugh.png ), has always been on the Statute but was never enforced anywhere until that a*s*wipe Taksin came along. And can you imagine a Thai having to report to their local plod shop/imm office in the UK?
  7. This the same Suthep as was found encroaching on Khao Yai National Park land? The same Suthep who, having been party to ousting the equally odious Taksin, made a point of coming down to Phuket immediately after the coup, to 'clamp down on foreign companies with 'nominee' shareholders'? That Suthep?

Well, I really don't like Suthep, but to compare him with Thaksin isn't fair. Thaksin was a 1000 times more corrupt and killed without regret 3000 people in his war against drugs.

Suthep is a bit ugly and a bit corrupt, but no wannabe dictator.

No, just a thieving hypocrite who made a lot of problems for a lot of people, unnecessarily banging that dumb Nationalist drum. Hardly the point is it?
  8. you might try a builders' merchant. They have these panels already made up. Cheap too. But no Birch here of course. I've often thought of using them myself. Although you're restricted by the sizes. P'raps you could bond them together or branch out into dip/triptychs.

  9. Don't you think it's possible that the women were there because being a prostitute earns a lot more money than selling trinkets on the streets?
Not having a go or anything, but why is it that there are so many Thai women willing to work for less than a prostitute earns [sic]. And I'm not talking about 'selling trinkets on the streets'? Where do you think you are, silly.

  11. First off, Taksin tried very hard to legalise gambling during his tenure. After scarpering (with the assistance of the corrupt 'get out of Dodge' enablers, acting under the then coup makers' watch - amazing how this pertinent point is very rarely cited), one of his potential new business partners was Cambodia's Hun Sen. who'd agreed to Taksin setting up a Vegas style city on his turf until the deal went sour. What short/selective memories people have.

And, quote: "Gambling dens are a major source of income of policemen. Everyone knows it," he added.

Why is it that the weekly criminal stats cite gambling as number one crime every week? As a Chinese friend told me years ago, 'Too easy for them (the police) No! Don't run away, we won't shoot you 'laugh.png

As for Chuwit. Not entirely sure what his motivations are, but well known he has BIG insurance if something were to happen to him whistling.gif

  12. Seems your determined to go ahead despite what many of us here with years of experience would run a mile from
I agree. This bike has obviously been stolen. What documents this seller purports he has? Many farang here do not understand that transfer of ownership requires a copy of the tabien baan (house registration), valid copy of ID card/Passport, together with a copy of the Death Certificate if the previous owner is deceased, not just the registration book as in our countries. You should also be made aware that a Power of Attorney can be falsified by one of the many dodgy lawyers here for a few baht, so that's no guarantee.

But it does seem as though you are determined to go ahead, just as a potential buyer of my house was even though I'd managed to contact him whilst I was in hospital to inform him the sale was fraudulent. Having sniffed his sale of the century go down the drain, he rounded on me! He still posts on here by the way ...

And I never did get the bike back. Stupid farang thief wasn't aware of necessary docs here either.

  13. Trouble with these places apart from living in a fish bowl.....you need blinds closed in the day to keep out the sun and at night so its not like being on big brother..the style suits some thogh.

Indeed. I went to the show unit of one of those glass towers in Wong Amat one afternoon. The unit was on a corner and had floor to ceiling glass on two sides. Even with the biggest air-conditioner I have ever seen blowing out ice-cold air, it was still like being in an oven, and you couldn't sit or stand anywhere without being in the direct sun. And because of the design if you wanted blinds they would have to be electrically operated also.

I totally agree about the glass. However, louvres, glass or wood are the way to go unless you don't mind living in an airless european style bungalow/Thai ruan baan zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

There are of course many options. But research and an eye for 'green' (or any design differing from that which I've seen of the monstrosities/eyesores thrown up here, absolutely necessary. Tell your new chum the builder to put away his generic design book bought from local Thai bookshop, throw away that 'back of fag packet' design, and RESEARCH. Consider, this is something will very likely be your home for many years (farang/thai developers have neither a clue nor give a flying one re resell).

Rather like this country's first tentative steps toward democracy, more appreciation of the climate in which these modern designs borrowed/copied from outside of the tropics, must be given more thought to. No one wants to spend a lot of money on air conditioning which is very expensive, and unnecessary. I speak from personal experience. I have a beautiful architect (farang) spec built air cooled 3 storey house on Phuket (and no, I'm NOT selling), and only a 7 HUNDRED baht utlity bill. It can be done.

  14. When will these people ever grow the fck up/get their collective heads out of their collective <deleted> and try, really try, to understand that IF they want all their ridiculous 'Whip Up The Xenophobia' schemes to ever truly work (to the chagrin of the many Thai landowners/'lawyers' ad bloody infinitum), then ... 'BRING IT ON'! Orrrrr, punish these THAI landowners/THAI land officials/THAI lawyers/accountants also. See where you get. Choke bloody dee.thumbsup.gifcoffee1.gif

  15. If you're having to resort to Vuze, after the stupid and unnecessary 'update' of Bittorrent (who bought out Utorrent), then after 'downloading' you must go to your docs/downloads, find the particular torrent in the list and kickstart it by clicking on and then opening/initiating Vuze, which will then show a 'loading bar'. If your torrent consists multiple files, ie, anything other than a lone episode/song off an album etc, then install VLC which will automatically revert your files. Easy. Otherwise will sit in stupid unnecessarily complicated Vuze 4ever.

  16. Totally dysfunctional Gov. The Thai people would be far better off if the Military ran the Government. Things seem to run smoother and safer. I hear this from Thais all the time. Let the military run things and get rid of the corrupt Gov.

I too have heard this. Bloody pathetic from a nation of so called adults. 'Where's papa?!' And the last stupid military regime were so good at running things were they ... NOT.
  17. Why, prithee, would someone be videoiing an empty street quite by chance? The robbery seems very inept and badly rehearsed to me.

That's the first thing I thought too. It seems very odd. Is it suppose to be footage from a 'fixed' CCTV camera, or someone holding a video camera? Because the camera is moving around. Why would someone just be randomly filming an empty street?

As has already been posited, this is a video of a video. CCTV vids are full of tapes recording empty areas ... Doesn't take much working out. A conversation between two Thai people can be overheard together with what sounds like the opening and closing of big heavy file cabinet drawers and the distant sound of a typewriter, at a local plod shop.
  18. "trickle down"????

it has been estimated that Thailand's black economy is up to 70% of GDP - that's the largest in the world.

this is largely not tax evasion (taxes on income are relatively low in Thailand) but corruption and "criminal" activities.

This is why I think it will be important for Thailand to get it's sh*t together before the ASEAN Economic Community is created in 2015.

Whilst I do not know much about it, I believe all the countries must meet certain criteria, in a similar way to countries joining the EU, and sadly, in my opinion, Thailand will fail in the corruption in business criteria.

And you really think they give a flying crap about ASEAN? Ah, sweet.
  19. I was in CM where I met with a woman who'd spent the previous month travelling in Burma. She exclaimed (really ...) 'Burma's beautiful! Thailand is like Disneland!

God knows what she thought of her stated next destination, Samui.

And yes ' Also, the hospitality of the local people leaves much to be desired, especially concerning unfair service.'

Having visited Burma myself, all I can say is, <deleted>.

  20. "This is an important case that must be solved urgently. We should not let only two people cause damage to Phuket's tourism. I promise that police will arrest those two perpetrators as soon as possible," Pansiri said.

Shame with Thai men like this, everything boiling down to $$$.

One day human life will be viewed on an index. So sad.

I think your post would've been better phrased shame some Thai men like this.

By the way, interesting the 'reward' is 300k. That's the going rate nowadays for bribing police captains and local prosecutors.

  21. Burma is now acknowledged as the next haven

I do believe that all of you banging on about Burma should understand that country has a very long way to go before it can claim itself to be a threat to Thailand's tourist industry. Notwithstanding it's infrastructure, or lack thereof, the main headline in the paper that cannot be named is titled 'Western Burma Burning'. Daw Aung Suu may be out of detention, but her country not out of the woods by a long way yet, certainly not in the foreseeable future.

As to the 'The UK should let foreign billionaires in so their taxes can be used for the betterment of society' [sic], Newsflash - The City of London is amongst the most popular tax havens in the world.

And why do the Chinese, in particular, buy great swathes land here? Money laundering. Same as the wealthy Thais/Russians. Yet more shophouses here on Phuket being slung up at an alarming rate, where they can be squeezed in between the already row upon row of empty ones having sat idle for years.

PS Never thought I'd say it, but Good For Switzerland thumbsup.gif
