  1. So you wrote about a consensus of the reviews about a restaurant you have no first hand experience about. you definitely have too much free time on your hands
  2. I am a semi-retired US doctor (active license)- living in Thailand working in America about 3 months every year. 4 years undergraduate university degree, 4 years of medical school consisting of 2 years didactics then 2 years clinical rotations, then 1 year internship- Ob/gyn, surgery, internal medicine (pulmonology, gastroenterology), emergency medicine, internal medicine, hematology/oncology, family practice, neurology, then 3 years psychiatry residency. Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Total 12 years following high school.
  3. An informal poll showed that only 3% polled felt crime was a deterrent, and the majority of them said it was only a minor concern. 57% said the worsening air quality was a significant factor in choosing not to visit Thailand beyond January, with CM being the most often-mentioned locale to be avoided. None reported the poor quality of the side walks which just received a multimillion (billion?0 baht makeover. Let's get real
  4. Less Chinese tourists because of terrible incident? Causation or correlation? Not a scientific statement. By the author's line of reasoning, Chinese tourists to America would decrease to 28.
  5. A friend who is a physician at a major university in Bangkok tells me the salary is 60,000 baht/month. Unbelievable. Perhaps that is why after their regular 9-5 job they go work 2-3 hours in the evening at their private clinics.
  6. From what I read, you state that on March 18 you got a Covid visa exemption greater than 60 days. I will believe when I see a pic of your visa stamp. You would be the first person to get an extension greater than 60 days
  7. This morning I was at Chiang Mai Immigration and I was told by 2 immigration officers that next week is the final week to apply for the 60 day extension
  8. Not at all puritanical. What I was trying to say, is that many of the things that make cities tourist draws- NYC, Paris, Rome, etc have more to do with other attractions
  9. There's an old saying, if you want to kill a snake, you cut off its head. There is only 1 interpretation here, and I am NOT using the word snake to symbolize the penis. Either you get it or you don't
  10. Why the eff not. I have done it plenty of times. Stay in Thailand 8 months, leave for 3 months, return with tourist visa
  11. Take away the beautiful women selling sex cheaply and lax (no) government policy stopping it, and BKK wouldn't make the top 100. Don't have to be a genius to figure that out
  12. What about the millions of doses of vaccines donated? You don't hear any official announcements of thanks.
  13. Appreciation is not in the government'a vocabulary.
  14. I guess I am filthy rich by Thai standards, but I am not a big consumer, maybe max out at 25 - 30,000 a year. I am not looking for some grandiose scheme dreamed up by the government that will ultimately be either non-workable or non-feasible for me. I would be looking for a system that is not trying to soak me through a rip-off insurance plan that would probably not pay claims anyway; not necessarily a residence permit but some type of security that one day the government will not wake up and decide it doesn't need expats anymore and make me null and void, not necessarily sole land ownership, but be able to purchase land with my spouse and if we divorce I have some claim to the land; the ability to start a business with tax rates comparable to what Thais pay. Some equitable employment arrangement to include Thais bit not at ridiculous ratios. (I mean , I could see Chinese starting a factory and importing its own citizens as its workforce, as they have dine in Africa.). In other words, just some rational plan that is reasonable. But the Thais in power are a scheming lot, and a very insecure lot as well. To digress, the3 idea that Thai businesses would welcome in foreign professionals is doubtful. They are so afraid they will be showed up as being inadequate, and because of their educational system they are not open to new and creative solutions.
  15. Yes, why do they need to ban alcohol in schools?
  16. Let's see. His options were: 1. It will get better. 2. It will get worse. 3. It will stay the same. With millions getting vaccinated, let's see....what would I answer? On a related note, his alma mater asked for his degree back.
  17. Everything you said reflects current thinking....but you are asking Thais to think more than 1 step ahead.
  18. My plan this week was to followup on the question of validity of passport books/certificates issued in Thailand for use overseas, specifically those vaccines not authorized in the US (Here you can substitute your own country.) by contacting the consulate here in Chiang Mai. I understood they would not have the answer but would involve contacting the appropriate regulatory agency in America. But today, Monday in the US, The Washington Post published an article today basically saying, We don’t know yet. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/travel-ban-us-europe/2021/09/20/d78b5aae-1a22-11ec-bcb8-0cb135811007_story.html?utm_campaign=wp_to_your_health&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletter&wpisrc=nl_tyh&wpmk=1&pwapi_token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJjb29raWVuYW1lIjoid3BfY3J0aWQiLCJpc3MiOiJDYXJ0YSIsImNvb2tpZXZhbHVlIjoiNWU4ZTc3Y2VhZGU0ZTI1NzM1YWVjODY1IiwidGFnIjoiNjE0OGVlNmM5ZDJmZGE5ZDQxZDk3YzcxIiwidXJsIjoiaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cud2FzaGluZ3RvbnBvc3QuY29tL3dvcmxkL2V1cm9wZS90cmF2ZWwtYmFuLXVzLWV1cm9wZS8yMDIxLzA5LzIwL2Q3OGI1YWFlLTFhMjItMTFlYy1iY2I4LTBjYjEzNTgxMTAwN19zdG9yeS5odG1sP3V0bV9jYW1wYWlnbj13cF90b195b3VyX2hlYWx0aCZ1dG1fbWVkaXVtPWVtYWlsJnV0bV9zb3VyY2U9bmV3c2xldHRlciZ3cGlzcmM9bmxfdHloJndwbWs9MSJ9.k1_GqYeiX3nqtegGA93IOl8FqfIodGQRYL_A00460fY From the article- “The process and means for travelers to demonstrate vaccination status will be released by early November when this plan begins to be implemented,” White House spokesman Kevin Munoz said via email. It also is not clear whether vaccines that have not been authorized in the United States, such as the Oxford-AstraZeneca shot or vaccines made by China and Russia, will be accepted. That will be determined when the details of the new rules are hammered out by federal agencies, White House aides said. Aides signaled Monday they would continue imposing new rules until the pandemic is beaten back.
  19. We know the huge majority if not all of it will stay in Bangkok and immediate area, maybe also some to Phuket and the islands. Forget the north.
  20. Right now the validity of any digital passport issued by Thai government for use overseas is unknown. There are rumors that the Mor Prom app is not accepted overseas. My supposition is that it is premature to assume anything, and each individual government will be evaluating the Thailand Visa Passbook, Mor Prom app vaccine certificate or anything generated by the Thai government. You can be assured that when Thailand created these instruments it did not check with other countries to see what standards in terms of security features that would be necessary.
