But he is no longer a policeman if you read the OP link.
Thaksin was corrupt but even he didn't steal the country in a coup and give himself an amnesty.
Thaksin endorsed him for the PAO position which was much the same as all the sound trucks relentlessly doing the same thing and paid for by their sponsors.
Thaksin was and is corrupt. He never managed to get the military on his side. Otherwise he would be like his eternal buddy Hun Sen.
He tried very hard to wangle an amnesty for himself but in so doing brought down his puppet sister's regime.
Sadly, corruption in the world of politics seems to be getting worse rather than better.
-
This is the man who was pictured with a large photo of Thaksin in his office on the day he was promoted to head of Bangkok police. When Thaksin was already a fugitive. A very senior policeman showing contempt for the law publicly - Thailand only.
He was the man who tried to board a flight to Bangkok in Japan with a revolver and ammo in his carry on luggage. Got caught and then the Japanese DPP decided to drop all charges and not prosecute. Friends in very very high places????
Why would anyone be surprised at his election success? Seems like an obvious Pheu Thai choice.

Who on earth makes up these headlines?....This guy is a Pol. Lt-General ....gambling dens, massage parlours, motorcy taxis....the list goes on about all the "businesses" these people have interests in.....corruption free? Never!
He's just showing he's learned from top politicians on what to say:
Trump - I'm not corrupt; the election was stolen...................... etc
Biden - I've never taken a penny in my life............... never discussed business with Hunter etc
Thaksin - I've never done anything wrong in my life, never................................
Boris - just smiles when his lies are pointed out to him.
Vlad - the election was fair
Xi - we believe in justice for everyone
etc etc etc.
Just remember though, he was democratically elected. So give him a chance because he hasn't been a career politician like those mentioned above!

Not so difficult to cross the heavily defended and uncrossable borders between the EU member states. So, Belgians or Germans to Netherlands... Venlo, just on the Dutch side, if often more a German shopping cit. Buit also the way around: we from Breda often go to do shopping in Belgium. To the UK you always have the Channel to cross. And the weather is even lousier as in continental Europe. And as last: a strange currency. So, why to visit UK ?
I used to be based in the South of the Netherlands. A short drive and you were in Germany. Better to go for dinner in Germany!

(google is your friend). 18 million Brits visited Spain. So it seems that the UK is not really that liked by Europeans compared to other countries.
Even the Netherlands has more tourists from the EU then the UK.
I think most tourists from EU go to warmer countries.
All the data is available online.
Not making any comments on the food as that is taste depended. But the weather is for me and others important. The UK has the same crappy weather in general as the Netherlands.
Interesting.
The Top 10 most visited countries by tourists in 2019 were:
France, Spain, USA, China, Italy, Turkey, Mexico, Thailand, Germany and the UK. Based on numbers of tourist arrivals.
If based on tourists receipts (what they spend) the UK moves up into 5th position, just behind Thailand and above Italy.
The Netherlands isn't in either Top 10. Of course, with border and customs free travel within the EU, there maybe some attractions The Netherlands has to offer European visitors.
Interesting anecdote. When I was based in the Netherlands I regularly visited our European HQ in France. One of my subordinates was the Chair of the company restaurant committee, a role he took seriously. He insisted on introducing me personally to the head chef. He proudly told the Chef " he is from the country with the second worst cuisine in Europe and now he is based in the country with the worst"! Couldn't argue with him.

In the short term, maybe. But as it spreads, expect more closures, banks and others. If it's contained, there won't be,

Deflecting from the issue.
No it isn't. It demonstrating that policing in the US has major issues. And not just ones related to race.
You are focusing on a symptom rather than cause because it suits your political agenda. It's politics which have led to the poor situation in the first place.

Most of you have not or never have been to Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Its a burnt out city, drug ridden, and rampent crimes of everything you can imagime of humans doing to other humans.
A once prosperous shipping and cargo town, with numerous automated factores and warehouse booming in post world war 2 era.
The last time I was there, (less than 5 yesrs ago) I was confident to know my Smith and Wesson was close by me and within reach.
To be a law enforcement officer or an officer of the court requires nerves of stesl, as all of them have bullseyes painted on theyre backs.
I would not be so prompt to pass judgement unless you come from Kenosha, Wisconsin, and regardless of race, creed or nationality, crime does not discriminate.
Fair point.
But that suggests there is a massive issue with effective policing itself and that policing isn't being carried out by consent.

Sad to say, but I don't think the guy gave the cop too many options. He had the door open, hopping into a 3000 pound weapon. The cop with no taser had a choice of letting him drive off, tackling him at great personal risk (knife in car) or shooting him.
God knows how many people the guy could have killed once he was behind the wheel.
Hmmm.
True Mr. Blake didn't follow police instructions and resisted arrest. Not sure he was intending to use his car as a weapon as such, seeing as how 3 of his sons were in the back. But he was seemingly intent on driving away, again resisting arrest. The knife could have been used as a weapon but there was no footage of it being used as such.
However, there were several officers present. Why didn't they subdue him or taser him? And, tbh, firing 7 shots from close proximity into the man's back was OTT. Not to mention he missed from that range with 3! Suggests the officer was panicking don't you think?

What nonsense. It was recommended by someone to consider banning entries from the UK. The government, quiet rightly and sensibly rejected the idea.
Your post is a great example of twisting the actual facts to bash a government.

What do they expect if they import thousands of illegal workers from a country with high Covid rates. duh !!
Who are ‘they’? What country with high Covid rates are they imported from ? The UK? USA?
Did you miss all the articles about how this new wave started in a fish market, in a province in which a large number of illegal immigrant workers from Myanmar, a country with high infections and poor checks, were found to be infected?
A fish market that attracts customers from many other provinces and makes deliveries to many provinces?
To be fair, one official also noted many Thais also crossed the Myanmar border without checks.
The Myanmar strain is apparently similar to the strain first discovered in the UK in that it is fast spreading, which makes it worse.
Vaccinations are looking more and more like the only solution.

Lockdowns for the whole country are coming and I think that everyone knows it.
In L.A. they are telling paramedics not to pick up people who won't make it and leave them. They have mobile refrigerated trucks for bodies in parts of north america because morgues cannot handle the bodies.
IT's not about the 1 percent or so death rate, it's about it happening all at once.
And unfortunately, as much as it hurts, Thailand is heading in the same direction. I only hope they can pull out of it.
You reckon?
Based on what logic do you believe Thailand is heading in the same direction as California?

I had heard that the math taught in school here was lacking. Is this empirical proof of the need to improve the educational system? With 900 more in the epicenter, 365 seems a bit off.
And why isn't Samut locked down like San Quentin? What gives? Prayuth said he was concerned, and he claimed they are competent and can be trusted. Yet the province remains as open as your neighborhood 7-11.
Why don't you read news articles to check the veracity before posting?
Oh yes, never miss a chance to bash Thailand, Thai people or the government.
Perhaps you'd be more comfortable in your home country?

Why not report 1,265 cases when there are 1,265 cases. Pretending the other 900 cases isn't in Thailand doesn't make them disappear.
According to news articles on other sites the "900" cases were previously included in the numbers from other days. So they weren't double counted.
Many countries and/or new media agencies seem to have a problem counting and accounting.

Even Barr said there was none.
But extreme right wing twitter posters still claiming to find examples.
As for Trump, is next big claim will be that the criminal charges he faces, whatever the nature, are all politically motivated and that he's never ever done anything wrong, ever. Not the first ex leader of a country to claim that one!

Well, you've probably read about how, when customers are less, their answer is to push up prices? This is all part of the same understanding of logic and cause and effect.

Not done on purpose. If you want to play blame game then the Brit strain is the fault of the Brits (not true IMHO)
The virus originated in Wuhan according to the WHO. There is still some suspicion it originated at a bio development lab rather than in the local nearby wet market. The Chinese government's suppression of journalists other than those that towed the party line hasn't helped clearing up the suspicions of some sought of cover up. Hardly the bastion of truth, honesty and an open press, now is it?
The Chinese people cannot be blamed for the virus itself, or the actions of their government.
The variant isn't the "Brit strain" as you suggest. It is a variant first discovered in the UK, which the WHO say has some of the most stringent testing and analysis in the world. Other countries, ones also diligent and not so keen to suppress information, have also confirmed cases of the variant and most not blamed it on some one traveling from the UK.
No one is to blame, unless the virus was the result of man made government research. If that's not the case then China may also have been guilty in, after identifying it, suppressing the information and allowing its nationals and goods to travel outside China so spreading it. But that all has to be investigated and confirmed. A lot more factual research is required.

I don't understand why people bother about gyms, you can get all the exercise you need by buying a good pair of trainers, a pair of swimming trunks, or a bicycle, or all three.
When I was a poor young man, I couldn't afford a gym membership. Not many about either in those days, so very expensive as low competition. Our Judo coach told us we could run around the park, go swimming at the cheap public baths, cycle for increased fitness. Even suggested making some weights out of old broom handles, buckets and cement for circuit training in the garage ( he had one we didn't!). Most of the older members had jobs that entailed manual work - builders, fitters in engineering, etc. They were stronger than those who worked in non manual office type work or similar. The latter had to work more on strength as well as fitness.
You can go so far without weights, depending on what you want to achieve. But physical science and equipment has moved on tremendously over the nearly 50 years since I was running around the park! Also, as pollution has increased, running and cycling in the fresh air, which isn't so fresh anymore, isn't always a good idea.

Thailand reports 157 new COVID-19 cases as number of infections appears to stabilise

Interesting though. The UK tests and confirms thousands new cases and deaths. NHS people state they're on the verge of collapse due to the number of patients. The UK has various lockdowns, mask wearing and not, etc etc etc. Similar in France, Spain, Italy etc etc.
Now, in Thailand, have you seen evidence of mass hospitalization? I haven't.
The attached chart shows the registered deaths in England & Wales. The total numbers don't seem to have increased massively; considering growth in population too.
