Sandy, you do realize many Thai's do not go to the hospital when they are sick with only minor symptoms, and government hospitals are always full with a very long que.  You folks that believe that if the regular non government hospitals are not full or people are dying that Covid is limited here in Thailand.  Think again Sir.  Enjoy your day.

Most people don't rush to hospital when they are sick with minor symptoms, whatever the issue. So that's an irrelevance. People buy proprietary medicines and if that doesn't work go to a pharmacy for advice. If more serious or worsening, they may go to hospital.

Non government hospitals aren't empty. They have numerous patients, out-patients, with various issues being treated, including regular patients. I have to see a specialists every other month so visit hospital regularly. Always usually busy, with checks on the door before entry by a nurse.  Use some other hospitals too, same there.

There hasn't, AFAIK, been any mass hospitalizations due to Covid 19 or its variants in Thailand. There most certainly has in other countries. That might be due to a number of reasons, all which would be speculative.

The problem at present, is IME, complacency was setting in, guards were being dropped, a few people went back to their old business habits and opened the lid on spreading it much more widely. How this will be contained, if it can be, and the effects of a near doubling of cases in less than a month (14th December to 4th Jan) is the real question. And this will be a significant test.

So despite a clear COVID Fit to Fly test, insurance and 15 days ASQ, Brits won't be allowed to come in. What if they agree to buy a condo?

And what about the other countries that have now identified cases of the Covid variant?

WHO remarked that it was discovered in the UK because the UK has stringent tests.

Other countries who check and report more diligently have also reported cases.

Another example of a knee jerk panic extreme reaction.

While at the Lat Prao Imperial world super center, all of the carts, and outside vendors were gone, normally there are about 20or so as well as vendors selling fruits and vegetable.  The GF asked as we were walking in and was told that because of Covid they were told to close and pack up.  Inside the entrances to the Big C were all closed except one which was making sure you scanned the QR code and then held your forehead up to the stand scanner they have to take your temperature, they then gave you a shot of alcohol Gel in your hand.  Looks like many places are back to where we were in March and April.

Yes, same here. Although our Big C still has 2 doors open. But most have the guards back asking people to scan in or sign in and checking temperature.

To be fair, haven't seen anyone without a mask either now. Seems people are taking this seriously.

  4. All of the restaurants in our local Big C's and Tesco's malls are now offering take away only service.

Main road very quiet this morning. Big C mall part had very few people about but plenty of Grab etc riders waiting outside the restaurants.

I went to the Barbers this morning. Only customer. Usually there are always a few that come in after me as I go early. Not today. He'd got all his cleaning gear back out from last time to clean after each customer. People about were all wearing masks again, as it was starting to get a bit loose on that discipline.

    Stay safe everyone.

PARIS (Reuters) - The father of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Thursday he was in the process of applying for a French passport to maintain his ties with the European Union after Brexit.????

So? The Johnson family were split regarding Brexit. Some members supported Remaining.

As were many other families and friends.

Are you suggesting adults can't be free to make their own minds up?

Iran is friendly with Pakistan. Saudi Arabia is friendly with Pakistan. So is Iran friendly with Saudi Arabia?

No. Hate one another. Sunni dominated KSA v Shi'ite dominated Iran. Pakistan and Turkey are both predominantly Sunni. Turkey holds military exercises with Russia and Iran and buys Russian missiles whilst being a full NATO member.

In the Islamic world, IME, the saying "my enemies friend is my enemy", doesn't always apply.

Trump will leave behind a dangerous world for Joe Biden to face. Iran and North Korea are posing nuclear threats. China is more hostile and aggressive. Emboldened Russia is again in a Cold War with EU and USA. IS still active in Syria and Iraq. Fragmentation of traditional US allies and NATO. It will challenge Joe’s diplomatic experience and skill.

All of those issues were around before Trump. He made a mess of handling them as he wasn't an experienced politician and diplomat but they were all bubbling for a long time. Biden will bring a decades long career politicians touch and might not make them worse. But solving them, that's another matter and he'll have is work cut out handling Covid, the US economy, and the worsening US civil divide.

Wish him well, but he's got a challenge and a half.

"As the British voter overwhelmingly in a land slide voted for" was always told by the Brexiteers, as.. there is a Brexit.

    Good luck."

    quote from the OP.

"Parliament's lower house voted 521 to 73 in favour of the deal."

That result isn't a landslide? It is about 86% and if that isn't enough of a landslide please tell me what is?

However, puipuitom is a hard Remainer so anything below 100% for him is not a landslide.

I think the poster you're answering was referring to the actual Brexit advisory referendum being by a small majority. Not this vote in parliament.

Clearly, this deal has been overwhelmingly accepted by parliament. Unlike the Theresa May, "this is the best deal, the one and only deal, which can't be changed" which was thrown out; and changed!

I am not sure that recipients are self nominated. But I agree - you have to take your hat off to the man. That he and a small minority of the UK electorate were able to cause so much reckless damage is remarkable.

Farage never really thought he'd win and get Brexit. He thought he'd got a nice number for life as MEP and then juicy pension.

He was like a fish out of water when he realized they'd won and quickly found out as to being clueless.

Small minority at the core but some how they managed to persuade enough people to be a small majority. Which again demonstrates the problems with absolute majorities without any tolerances on massively important votes.

But his family have their German EU passports, thanks to his wife; and he supposedly was off to the US. Although now his mate Trump is out, maybe that's off.

Nothing to do with hypocrisy and jealousy.

Do you have access to his personal tax records? He lives in Monaco, known as a tax haven.

So, as you claim to know, how much tax has he paid to HMRC over say the last 10 years? And what % of his actual worldwide income is that?

Do you think he just walked into the top job?

No, he was carefully groomed for it by his father. Started as a boy in Karts. Was mates with Nico Rosberg on the karting circuit.

No one should doubt the effort he's put into developing his natural skills to the fullest.

But he's a racing driver, a very well paid one too. Not some social leader whose there to lecture us, the people who paid for his wealth.

Good to see waving tens of millions of dollars as bail surety didn’t buy her out of jail.

She’s charged with participating in heinous crimes, has three passports and with upto 35 years in the slammer if convicted she has ample reasons to flee.

Good also to see she’s under constant supervision.

She has, I believe, a French passport and French citizenry. AFAIK France will never extradite a French citizen. So she could have fled there. The UK, would so don't think she'd run there. Don't know what the third one is you elude to.

But she chose not to do a "Red Bull Boy"; even though she had opportunity and certainly has the resources and connections. Rather strange really. Seemingly trying to hide under the radar, and hope it all blew away. Or perhaps she thought she was being protected by certain people so as things were kept quiet?

Will be interesting to see where this all goes.

Rama 4 Rd. Has been fairly empty today, no morning traffic and nothing at lunch time.  Feels like a Sunday here.

On the way home, wifey said Bangkok had been very quiet and would probably be even quieter over the next few days.

Guards are back on the doors of the malls I've been to over the last few days. Enforcing temperature checks, and mask wearing. But I noticed few bothering to sign in, written or phone scan so tracing not so easy should the worse happen.

Went to the cinema and had dinner out yesterday. Good social distancing being enforced in cinema and restaurant.

But everywhere that's newsworthy, the second wave seems worse than the first. Makes you wonder what's really happening in those countries not deemed so newsworthy by MSM.

    Stay safe and HNY!

They are already too late. People have travelled. It’s out there. It’s now a case of how many and how bad it will get.

Kanchanapisek road was packed yesterday early afternoon in one direction - away from Bangkok. But by 10 pm when we were on the way home it was relatively empty. Usually it would be packed for much much longer.

Maybe more will be traveling North today?

Should be the other way around. Government shouldn't tell its people what to eat. The people should tell anybody who is an elected official: no meat, reduced salt and fat, only fruit and vegetables for breakfast and lunch, no alcohol, reduced diary, especially cheese. See how they like it. Remember they serve you. You don't serve them.

Reducing the number of politicians, lobbyists, activists and associated propagandists would be beneficial to public health!

We must excuse the English and their frenzied taste for fats and sweets, reason of endemic obesity. The alternative of fine and healthy cuisine that gives off flavors and perfumes is simply non-existent.

In France, it was said jokingly that they had conquered half the world in search of a decent meal. But unfortunately there is no longer an empire.
So folks, continue to present the fish and chips or burgers as culinary pinnacles and plan for transport of heavy loads.

    ????

    Pompous BS!

French cuisine changed dramatically, IME, in the last decade. Much more fast foods, convenience foods etc. Even read articles saying many bakeries were struggling because the French demand for bread had decreased dramatically.

Main difference being in French McDonald's you can buy wine and beer. Very healthy.

Shoveling down all that wine, foie gras, rich sauces and cheese must be fantastically healthy. And smoking still seems much more common there than UK or Germany.

French cuisine, like the French language, is a quaint thing of the past in world relevance!

They are a very fat out of shape country.

Many people suffer from type 2 Diabetes.

From BBC:  The overwhelming majority of adults in England are so unhealthy they put their lives at risk, a survey suggests. The data from the Health Survey for England showed nearly nine in 10 had at least one unhealthy trait. ... Half of adults have two or more of these risk factors

This has translated into the high Covid deaths, percent higher then even the US per population.

The article says 2/3 in Britain. From my interaction I would say 90% of British in Thailand.  Fat, out of shape, smoking and drinking too much.  Very sad.

Good for Britain for at least trying on this worldwide problem.

I sure hope the announcement and implementation of these measures will have positive results on the British people.

Yeah right, and all the Americans, Australians and assorted Europeans are all tea total vegetarians who work out five times a day!

What a fiasco.  Does this have anything to do with Thailands contract with Astrazenica and the wanting to build there own lab as well to create a vaccine.  If there is a vaccine that works shouldn't everyone have the option to choose,

No, I think it has more to do with one hospital hoping to cash in on the crisis and being caught and stopped before they set off a dangerous trend.

And yet it should be linear and not mildly fluctuating.  We should be seeing spikes but nope.

    14 Dec: +28 (4,237)

    15 Dec: +9 (4,246)

    16 Dec: +15 (4,261)

    17 Dec: +20 (4,281)

    18 Dec: +16 (4,297)

    19 Dec: +34 (4,331)

    20 Dec: +576 (4,907)

    21 Dec: +382 (5,289)

    22 Dec: +427 (5,716)

    23 Dec: +46 (5,762)

    24 Dec: +67 (5,829)

    25 Dec: +81 (5,910)

    26 Dec: +110 (6,020)

    27 Dec: +121 (6,141)

    28 Dec: +144 (6,285)

There were spikes in figures above. 20th, 21st and 22nd.

Before those dates the daily figures were up and down. After those dates, from an initial drop on the 23rd the growth in numbers appears linear.

I don't believe it is a linear trend. Rather more like applying "gambler's fallacy". Tomorrow the chances of it being higher or lower are still the same.
