  1. family of the senior girl in the picture so proud of her.....me daughter go to university and do this...

Well done that man. Perhaps you could sit down with your daughter at some stage in practice on your English.

Perhaps you could read the forum rules. The part about not correcting the English of non native Engish speaker might be interesting.

"in practice on your English". Well, you obviously practice what you preach.whistling.gif

  2. Typical behaviour of engineering students. Although, I'm impressed as there is no alcohol in the picture, and none of them are vomiting. It's a fact. that civil engineering students drink a lot and have the highest vomit per student production on campus. They also have the worst skin, and are sexually frustrated for their entire time of undergraduate studies. Mechanical and chemical engineers are usually cool. They also can do amazing pranks. They have good skin and do not vomit as frequently as the civvies.

Science faculty freshies never engaged in such activity. There was the ultimate Frisbee drinking challenge to compete in. whistling.gif

Anyway, what's the biggie? A bunch of adolescents engaged in homoerotic activity. It happens.

Wow - someone whose carried out detailed research on the antics of different faculty student's behaviour! Was this an international study or just Thailand? How many Unis and faculties? Has your research been peer reviewed or published? Did you collect qualitative or quantitative data and via which methodology?

Or there again, is it just your opinion based on no particular facts?

  3. More chance of her son getting a game for Chelsea than any changes here.

Sad that politicians everywhere all still think that people believe everything that they say and never hold them accountable for actually delivering their promises.

How many of the criminal bankers in the West have faced any charges? Banks have been fined for breaking the law but how many of the senior individuals have or will face charges? Probably about the same round number as PTP.

Corruption has many guises, and sadly permeates around the world.

If YL delivers as promised then she really would be a world class leader......................... but that's a very big "if"

    sad.png

  4. Speaking of transparency I see where Yingluck's son was chosen to walk out with the Chelsea players.

Out of all the kids in Thailand her's was the choice.

OK I can see through that easy enough.

Now com'on Dolly, don't be a bad sport and pick on a juvenile.

Just because he was lucky and his name came out first in a fair, transparent and honest selection process based on equal opportunity for all. Could just as easily been a newly enriched rice farmer's son from Isaan.

  5. what's wrong with people falling from balconies nowadays ... when its not in pattaya its in phuket then bangkok .... are there often similar falls like this in other countries ? I dont reckon in my country it happens frequently.

Most countries have balconies over 12 inches of height, with a barrier that has been manufactured and fitted by people who know what they're doing.

A very strong contender for "Thaibasher of the year" award!!rolleyes.gif

So drunk farangs fall of balconies, because of poor workmanship of Thai builders?sad.png Give me a break!

I did a stint as a tourguide in Spain in the 80'ties, and drunk tourists were falling off the balconies as frequent as they are here! Poor workmanship by the Spanish??

Not indicating that the poor fellow in the OP was drunk!

Did the balcony fallings in Spain ceased when you moved to Thailand

Poses 2 questions: Who would believe a tourguide working in Spain? (Most I saw were always too pissed to do their job let alone owt else). Ever seen examples of Spanish builders? Not exactly renowned throughout Europe for their building skills.

Not suggestinf Soi41 was a tourguide like this.

Back to reality - hope this gent gets back to Ireland and makes a good recovery. He'll certainly stand a better chance back home.

  6. Well I see at least three read the article and understood it not bad out of 33 posts.

    He said

"When other panellists proposed big ideas for the world and looked to him on how politicians can help, he said, Politicians need help."

and most of the posters did not agree with him or they misread the article and thought it was an invitation to bash him and even some Thai bashing.

I swear some people are here because they are unacceptable where they come from.

Wake up people the Politicians the world over need help.

Yeah right - and how many can you name that ever listen???

  8. Perhaps the National Police Bureau could also explain why they have refused to take action on this highly publicised issue before having it referred by the Ombudsman.

Because they don't see anything wrong in meeting the PM in HK and letting him pin on the insignia seeing as how he decided who was having the job anyway.

No reason to explain - no one important has asked them.

    TS is not the PM!

Oh really? You actually believe that. Good for you.

  11. Wonder if they have any "Daddys" Brown Sauce? Better than the Dutch made HP crap.

My lovely wifey reckons I could be a serious contender - not an FB, just a ganet with a big appetite. I used to do the big steak and mixed grills challenges in the UK - but that was 30 years ago!

One of my Swedish mates, an ice hockey player, scoffed a big steak challenge in the US. 4 out of 3 cleaned their plates - all were ill, had to rest up for a couple of days and had severe constipation! They also were politely told by the restaurant not to bother going back!

Seriously, anyone doing this needs to think of the health issues. This is a mega plate. I'd give 50% a go - but not this much.

  12. The national police chief has been given 30 days to explain, and the Ombudsman will consider if it would further submit the complaint to the prime minister if the National Police Bureau fails to take any action, he said.

So if the National Police Bureau don't do anything it will be submitted to the PM...she'll just smile and walk away as she usually does facepalm.gif

Yep - she'll put this in the same file as the question regarding the illegal issuing of brother's new passport. She won't think either question is serious or warrants an answer.

    Waste of time.

No indication for rating cut: Kittiratt

    30210544-01_big.jpg

A file photo on June 13 shows Kittiratt and Prasarn at a seminar in Bangkok.

BANGKOK: -- There is no indication that Moody's Investors Service may lower Thailand's sovereign rating, said Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong.

After the discussion with Moody’s executives on Tuesday, he said topics discussed covered mostly the regional economic outlook as well as sovereign rating outlook. Kittiratt also showed the commitment that Thailand would achieve the balanced budget in 2017 as planned.

There is no indication that the rating agency would cut Thailand’s rating, he said.

Per question on the Bt2 trillion infrastructure investment scheme, he told Moody’s that the scheme would continue as planned and that the government would keep the public debt below 50 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP).

He also said that Moody’s was not worried about the rice-pledging scheme. He said the government is capable of keeping control of the disbursement of budgets for the scheme.

Yesterday, Bank of Thailand governor Prasarn Trairatvorakul told ASEAN ambassadors that the government’s policies are geared towards short-term gains and impacts on the economy could wane. On this, Kittiratt rebutted that should the central bank want to help propel the economy, it should further cut the interest rate.

Well it's up to Moody's to make a statement which will either support the minister's conclusions from the meeting or not.

  14. Typical response...blame Blair and not the inept politicians that followed and I include Brown in that statement although I felt a bit sorry for him as he took over right in the middle of thew financial crisis.

The government Britain has now has done a wonderful job of turning it around. cheesy.gifbeatdeadhorse.gif

Feel sorry for Brown? An inept chancellor who manged to be an even more inept PM.

And how would you propose turning things round given the precarious situation in many countries and the <deleted> situation that the previous regime left?

I'm know fan of the current British government but would have yet to see any credible policies from Labour.

  15. Anything to stop the truth getting out, losing face or slowing down the revenue streams.

Actually facing up to and resolving the problems - not even on the radar. No gain, no interest. Much easier to lie, threaten and coerze.

What problems? Strong baht, economc growth and the rich getting massively richer. Policies seem to be working just fine.

I'm sure Thailand's competitors in the international rice supply markets won't be slow to talk about this, and dare I say, add embelishments. Unfortunately, they can't be gagged. Stopping people commenting at home isn't going to influence the international perception one iota. It just makes it look more sure there is something to hide. Too arrogant, stubborn and stupid to see.

  16. Key people close to Newin have reportedly intimated they want to team up with their former boss Thaksin. One was quoted saying: "I respect Yingluck as the sister of our boss... We dearly want to be in good terms with 'PM Thaksin' again because he raised us."

    bah.gifbah.gifbah.gif

So clearly Newin's people also believe the real PM is infact a convicted fugitive criminal, who they also now want to see as their boss again.

Looks like all the allies are being lined up to crush any resistance to the big return,

Convictions and outstanding charges quashed, the hero returns and takes the helm - all the "will of the people". Then the "fun" really starts.

  17. Raise fuel prices for everyone. Red diesel for all official business uses. Regulated properly. Use this money to promote free public transport and improve the infrastructure. Yeah, I will keep dreaming...But the only way to improve the traffic is to reduce it and if you can spend 300 baht going in your car, or go for free on a nice and reliable free public treansport service that runs on time with good drivers etc. Get rid of the majority of taxis, there are far too many and test all drivers, get the good drivcers to drive the public transport vehicles for a decent wage sso they are still happy and kick out the crap ones, let them find jobs they are better suited to...just saying...

And how many countries do you know that have manged to achieve your suggestion or anything like it?

  18. I worry about this. Not so much from what is being said but the fact that a supposedly high ranking person is saying this and expecting people to believe it.

We all know this is unachievable and in reality getting taxi's to stop refusing fares and buses to pick up at designated stops will be as effective to overall traffic congestion and chaos as what swabbing the decks on the titanic was afternoon before they hit the iceberg.

In fact the analogy of iceberg seems to fit the Ministry of Transport except they are all tip and no berg....

If they had of come out and said right new plan.. even plates allowed in CBD M/W/F/Sat , odd plates T/ T/ Sat/ Sun great but they cant do that as other countries have done as they don't have the public transport infrastructure in place to handle this.... BKK has one of the lowest rail density figures for any capital city worldwide.

I am also curious as to how a taxi not refusing a fare actually assist traffic congestion... think about it.. you are standing on Sukhumvit, you flag a taxi , he pulls in, you open the door and say airport, he says no and he drives off... if he had of said OK and you got in then what actual time or reduction on congestive traffic flow has been achieved.

Id actually rather hear the statements that they would like to do something but alas powerless to really change anything.

or what about new transport plan involving all the idle lorries that used to ferry the rice to the ports for export now carrying people....

No wonder the rice isnt selling when the populations seems to be very content with a government feed of continual bs.

The point is that having a good public transport system encourages people not to use their own vehicle. If you know there is likely to be a problem with taxis - refusing pick ups, demanding fixed prices, dodgy meters, long routes etc then you are more likely to say fck it and use your own car, despite the traffic jams and parking problems.

Over more than 20 years, problems with taxis has been very small, a tiny % of the journeys I use them for. But, I have noticed an increase in issues over the last few months. More refusals, taxis from the airport with "quicker" meters than normal, more demands for a "fixed" fee, more grumbles about you live far (30km from Sukhumvit in fact) etc. Also had several ask provocative questions about the political situation here, or bad mouthing farangs in general. This is still a relatively small % but a growing one.

I am much more inclined to drive into Bangkok now. Sort the taxis out and I will use them all the time.

  19. You would think the opposition would keep a record of all these 90/60 day promises that this ridiculous governernment insists on making. And then, aggresively challenge and question the PM/DM on why they haven't been kept or delivered as promised.

Whoops!! Forgot TiT. There is no PM's question time and she rarely bothers to attend anyway; there is no credible opposition; and everyone just ignores the lies anyway because they know nothing will change.

Same Same! Thailand number 1 !!
