You have the right to look away.

Very big of you to allow homosexuals to do whatever they want at home.

The comments were textbook racism. Bigotry is defined in the dictionary as "obstinate or unreasonable attachment to a belief, opinion, or faction, in particular prejudice against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group" in this case the group being "thai people". As for not knowing many Thais - no, your wife doesn't count to be honest. if you have to invoke "the wife" when it comes to your association with Thai people, it's already game over. Many of us here have actual Thai friends and Thai colleagues - people we know really well and hang out with. As for Thai driving. I don't think the driving here is that bad considering there is close to zero on the road enforcement of traffic laws. So the bad apples get to be REALLY bad with no recourse. That's what's going on her. Thai people don't really have a problem driving - there's just a lot of knobs on the road driving with impunity. The UK would be the same if you took the cops/cameras off the road.

I always marvel at comments like this. This is pure racism. It's also the result of not knowing many Thai people or having a grasp of the local language. It always fascinates me how many expats have such a low opinion of the locals here, yet they seem to want to remain here - amongst people they don't like OR understand. There's nothing wrong with the brains of Thai people - they are just people like any of us. Thai society is indeed unique - but how many countries could exist without a functional police force and be so peaceful? Most places with bad police are overrun with crime. You do have to scratch beneath the cultural veneer here to understand people properly. But these racist comments are the result of lazy thinking

Thai woman arrested for stealing a taxi after driver refused to have sex

"The driver speculated that Jirat could have stolen his car and belongings the night before if he had agreed to sleep with her." she must be some multi-tasker... -
Family tourism rises in Pattaya despite extended nightlife hours
pedro01 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I am not sure that's true. Or rather - it depends on the age of the kids. There are so many things to do in Pattaya for kids - water parks, zip lining, the zoo is a day trip, underwater world, the floating market, Ripleys etc. etc. Most places that are 'family friendly' are quite dull for kids. Koh Chang is a typical example - it's beautiful but for kids it's dull. Samui also doesn't have that much to offer for kids too. -
Family tourism rises in Pattaya despite extended nightlife hours
pedro01 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
I do - and so do Bangkok families. It's the closes beach resort to Bangkok for a start and it's got tons of stuff to do with the kids. My kids always thought it WAS a family destination - what with all the grandads talking to their Asian granddaughters on those early evening strolls along the beach... -
So, has anyone found an accountant that can sort this out? I am transferring a year's worth of expenses to a new bank account and I won't add any money to it after Dec 31. I am hoping to show this is savings that I am living off (which it is) - and avoid the local taxation. What I don't want to do is argue the toss over this with someone in RD. I want an accountant that knows the laws to do it.

Cannabis cookies - which dosage, which source in Jomtien?
pedro01 replied to henrik2000's topic in Thailand Cannabis Forum
Everyone is different. If I were you, I'd try 20mg first, then up it to 40mg and so on. 40 would get most people stoned but you might find you need 60mg. I got some gummies a couple of weeks ago. It was 500mg and 8 gummies. I ate 2 (125mg), which is a good dose for me personally. I'm stoned but functional and can sit in the pub and have a conversation with people. Anyway, I felt nothing after 2 hours - so I presumed they were not measured out right and I took another 2. 5 minutes later, the first 2 kicked in. The result? My legs wouldn't work. I couldn't stand up and spent the night on the kitchen floor with the dog climbing over me every few minutes. The wife must have put some pillows down for me and I had the best nights sleep in ages. -
Research is not exactly clear on this - but here's some interesting reading - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9545209/ In particular "Extensions in closing hours in populous municipalities decrease accidents, whereas the opposite is true for rural municipalities"

‘Big Joke’ Jeered For Literally Kneeling Before Potjaman
pedro01 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Potjaman is very powerful - especially with the po-po. I'd have bowed too! -
No - we usually sort it out the week before. The complimentary tickets are already allocated to my mate, so it's just a matter of putting our name against them, then picking them up on the day.

I got comped tickets to Ed Sheeran - both his tours here. When I went to pick up the tickets - I got a good look at the seating plan for the complimentary tickets - and I'd say at least 300 were allocated to the BIB. Not sure if that helps things.

My opinion is different. Gay people are simply people with a less common sexual preference. That's quite minor in the grand scheme of things. It doesn't make them "not normal", it just means their sexual preference is outside the mainstream. I wouldn't judge anyone based on their sexual preference as long as it isn't harming anyone. It is such a small part of who we are, it's close to irrelevant. There's quite a number of gay guys/gals in our social circle and I feel there's much more in common than the differences. So to me, they are simply just people. As for pedophiles - and I cannot believe you compared gays to pedophiles - they do considerable harm in acting out their sexual preference, these people are destroying lives, so no - they aren't normal people, they are vile predators. Gays are not.

Can I ask which area you live in?
