In many ways, I think that Tokyo is cheaper on a quality-adjusted basis.
First, the air, water and streets are very clean. This is important & valuable to me.
Second, Japanese food is cheaper there and better. For example, MaxValue is better there than in BKK.
Third, the city and national rail transport networks are fantastic.
Fourth, the climate is cooler & better!
If Japan creates a retirement visa I will move there.
Wow, an intelligent answer. As you say, very hard to make a direct comparison. Tokyo is more expensive than BKK, certainly, but pretty much everything you get is of significantly better quality (as you have stated). Hotels and taxi fares are the stand-out expensive items for me, rentals as well, rather unsurprisingly. Pretty much everything else is decent value. Of course, if you look at minor Japanese cities vs. central BKK, the latter starts to look rather over-priced.

Thanks for the grammar corrections, I stand corrected.. and yes, too many posters are giving confused emojis
when there's nothing to be confused about so I'm thinking here, are they really that hard on
understanding a simple posts or just trying to annoy and anger other posters?...
Sorry....I'm confused by "a simple posts"

In BKK, Zuma is the best IMO, in fact the best I've been to anywhere; they bring food to your table, extremely well presented and high quality. Kempinski also v good, but both these are expensive. JW Marriott (Tsu/Nami) used to be excellent, haven't been for a while, but last time felt prices had gone up & quality down; very Japanesey (as is Zuma), of course, & not cheap. Significantly cheaper are Millenium & Radisson Blu - ok, not great. The better Indians (Punjab Grill, Indus, Maya) do Sunday brunch as well; look like it's going to be good value, but disappointing; food nowhere near as good as served in the evening.

You can change your base currency ie: USD, the exchange rate is more competive than 3%.
Just checked (for GBP-EUR and GBP-CHF) and you're absolutely right. Apologies for misleading, I'm glad you got me to check it, it's more or less on a par with Wise.

I have used the account available at HSBC Singapore which has a slightly different name, but essentially same idea, and it works very well. I have only just opened the one you're referring to at HSBC London, and haven't yet got round to using it, as the physical card hasn't yet turned up (I live in TH), so my info on it may not be totally correct. However, as I see it the London a/c, from my perspective, has the advantage (over the Sin version) of offering a wider range of currencies. But, there does seem to be a major negative in that if you want to pay-in to the Lon a/c, I think you can only do it by changing GBP into your desired currency on the app itself and this entails using the HSBC exchange rate, which is approx 3% worse than the wholesale rate. I tried paying to pay CHF from a third party into the (Lon) account but was unable to do so; I haven'y yet tried with other currencies but will do soon. With my Sin a/c, I can pay-in currencies other than SGD, which I have typically bought via Wise, whose rate turns out to be only approx 0.5% worse than wholesale. So I save 2.5%. As most credit card companies also charge about 3% (in the form of the exchange rate, an actual charge, or a combination of the two) I see little if any advantage of using the Lon a/c, rather than credit cards; their claim of no charges is very misleading.

Current turnaround time has been reported as much as twelve weeks. Three months may be cutting it fine so I would go for four months or sixteen weeks.
FYI, took mine in on 23rd Dec., got it back 16th Jan. Quite impressed, given the number of holidays involved (at the UK end).

You can buy a rent a "flight ticket".
Google that term and you will find companies that provide that onward flight that sometimes airlines require.
that's great info.....never knew about it - could have used that dozens of times if I had. Thank you!

When I recently did my one-year extension based on marriage, I decided, out of pure laziness, to use the same photos as last year. I was amazed when they phoned a few days later to tell me they were unacceptable. Someone had actually dug out my paperwork from last year and compared this year's photos with last year's. Full marks for being thorough!

Just arrived in Singapore. On line arrival card/ health declaration. Hand over passport, look at camera and off you go. Email follows to confirm your legal entry. No stamp in passport. It can be easy Thailand
Same here, excellent system, trust Singapore to get it right! It can be easy for TH, but not sure it ever will be, at least any time soon.

I doubt these 2 know the first thing about the Ukraine, it's history, Zelenskyy, his Panama paper scandal, the political and human rights environment in the Ukraine. Just no idea at all, and got all worked up about narratives in the news and media. I must admit, heading off to fight the good fight in the Ukraine against big bad Russia is the mother of all virtue signals. I'll bet they got sooo many likes on their facebook page. Wonderful. They deserve their sentence for stupidity alone.

Interesting that, according to him, this phenomenon should be responsible for approx only one third of the accidents for which it is considered responsible in US & Europe. Maybe Thais are better at it, or their microsleep is more micro than elsewhere....

Is there a function you can use, within this forum, where you can basically suggest to the OP that he consults Google? Like a big G? Similar to the confused, sad, etc. ones. As in, do people on this forum really have any idea whatsoever which brand/model is better than that which has been recommended by countless people worldwide? I'd have to think maybe.....not

Probably a browser related problem.
I use a mobile app password manager and it has its own built-in browser....when I tried to logon using the password manager's built-in browser I would get the same/similar results as you got.
But when I used my Android mobile app Chrome browser and copied my User ID and password over from my password manager without using its built-in browser I could logon no problem with my phone.
Now on my Windows computer I use the same password manager as a browser extension and the manager uses whatever browser(s) you have installed on your computer like Chrome, Edge, etc., and I have not problem logging on.
Thank you

I was unable to get into the site using my Mac - got "Invalid user ID or password."
However, got in easily using my Android phone. Pretty straightforward after that....

If i fly abroad, i’ll need one
I got one just to be sure, but it's by no means clear that it is actually a requirement anywhere. If you're convinced you need one, Bumrungrad Hospital in BKK will do it in 3 days at a cost of B1,500.
