  1. p.s. does this yellow book have any use with respect to obtaining reasonably priced medical care for routine treatment at hospitals/outpatient clinics in the Tambon/Amphur where it is obtained

    No.

The only foreigners that get "extra" entitlements are those with (or who previously had) a work permit and who pay social fund contributions or foreigners who are married to government workers.

again i don't believe that is entirely accurate.

Fair enough. Do you think what I posted was incorrect; do you think I missed something out, or both?

no i don't think you said anything incorrect at all. i only stated in a previous reply that i had personally met and seen a couple of foreigners here in C.M. that did not previously have work permits and to the best of my knowledge were not married to government employees, receive low-cost outpatient healthcare at a small hospital/clinic here near my home in C.M. by way of presenting a copy of their yellow book. i was at the clinic a couple of times and personally witnessed it. i am not 100% sure about one of them but the other volunteered that his wife owned a shop for many years so i know she is not a government employee.

  3. Thanks

But your list probably won't help many people because every Amphoe seems to have their own requirements.

sorry to resurrect this 2 year old topic, but it comes up first on the search of "yellow book" on the entire forum.

does anyone know what the current list of documents/requirements are for getting a yellow book in Chiang Mai? (any Amphur should be O.K.)

    thanks!

p.s. does this yellow book have any use with respect to obtaining reasonably priced medical care for routine treatment at hospitals/outpatient clinics in the Tambon/Amphur where it is obtained? i had read it does. i have insurance for inpatient but some reasonable outpatient benefits would be a plus.

The best thing to do is to ask at the Amphoe where you will be applying for the yellow book. It varies by Amphoe to Amphoe even in the same province.

    O.K. thanks for that.

  4. Has nothing to do with the Thai national medical scheme. There were a few farangs that slipped in when they first started the 30 Baht deal but the government soon put a stop to that and pulled all the cards that were erroneously issued

Not only are the requirements for the Yellow Book different for different Amphur's but what it can be used for also varies from location to location

there are a few ex-pats here in C.M. (and i've met 2 of them) that are able to use the yellow book registration to go to local hospitals. it's not free and it's certainly not 30 Baht, but more like 200-300 Bath for a complete check-up (basic labs, UA, not specialized things, maybe an EKG once a year, etc.) and dispensing of meds for blood pressure, cholesterol, prostate issues, etc. for 60-90 days. there is no way anyone could go to these places for that price without some flag in the computer by way of yellow book registration. i'm quite healthy and perhaps 20 years younger than most around here but the wife is always nagging me to have back-up plans for everything and she had read something on a Thai forum that it is possible. so i was just curious.

  5. Thanks

  6. Her iPhone couldn't have been to badly broken she managed to call you.

    she called from home.

    "she called from home."

Are you insuniating that she has a "landline phone" in her home?

I seriously wonder if anyone in Thailand has a landline phone.

I have never known a person in Thailand who has one.

Even the school I worked at for years had no landline phones!

Everyone I know has a landline in their home, at 109 baht a month its cheap plus it's useful to get internet for those of us who don't like staring at their phone all day.

109 per month and if we call someone in the same Changwat it cost 3.5 Baht to make a call; whether you talk for 20 minutes or 10 hours...3.5 Baht! we use the 1234 prefix when dialing out of the Changwat and it's much cheaper than a mobile - and of course the best reception. who needs a mobile. they suck.

she has a landline in her home and so do I. it's all i ever use. every single member of my wife's family has a landline in their homes. certainly you are joking.

  8. yesterday morning i get a call from our housekeeper. she says to me (in English as she is studying English and doing very well) what i thought was "can't working today. my bone is broken." i wasn't sure i heard her correctly so i asked her in Thai what she said and again i thought she said "can't working today. my bone is broken." of course i was concerned and asked her if she was O.K., had she been in an accident, etc... again she repeated herself in English and i realized she was saying ""can't working today. my iPhone is broken."!!

well....i thought about it and then asked if she was sure she didn't want to work, to which she replied she needed to go to Apple service. "it was very important." i tried to make a joke and said "i hope the patient will be alright" - which of course went right over her head.

considering she spends a good 25% of her time here either on her mobile or her iPad, i can see the priority in her life. forget making money. there is sick iPhone!

i will never understand the mobile culture. i remember times when my Jaguar had to be towed to the shop...or heaven forbid when my poor late mother was in her last days in hospital - i still made it in to work.

  9. Did the lady driver survive? Not sure if that's her in one of the CM108 pictures but if it's her then she looks pretty dead.

I took the lady under the car as one of the dead cyclist given that she was wearing cycling shorts.

i thought that at first too, then wasn't 100% sure. but i suspect you are correct.

  10. Past Lamphun on the Bangkok road, there is a turn left to Baan Maa (horse, high tone). The whole village is furniture making; and mostly standard junk. However, if you ask around, one can find some real craft workshops that can tackle anything to order. Takes some exploring to dig out the value stuff.

i would suggest taking someone with you who knows people there and can help you locate where anything of quality may be. otherwise you will find 95% junk - cheap furniture that will fall apart in no time.

  11. not a fan of country music by any means but there used to be a place also on the Mae Jo Road, but further out past the intersection of the road that goes from the Mae Rim Road to the Doi Saket Road, on the right side. maybe 1 km past the intersection. kind of a strange place set back from the road a little, but they had country music. was not difficult to miss as the only entertainment venue on that stretch. been lots of development lately so not sure if still there. had real shit-kicker country music.

  12. it's on the news now. he has killed before. as i understood it, he killed a tomboy in Patpong the same way, stuffing a beer bottle in her rectum until she died. i may have not got this part entirely correct but i believe they said he killed another girl by the C.M. train station. changed his name as many as 10 times and has done time in prison for the murder of the tomboy in Bangkok. sick f..k

  13. There was one guy who posted here about 3-5 yrs back who won his case after a huge plot of land, custom house n many millions of baht - originally in pounds went poof when divorce time came. I eventually ended up meeting the ex by strange circumstances in the local hi-so scene and never let on that I knew about her past.

From what I saw over the last few yrs, is that the place was up for sale since even before the decision, and without any buyers, the whole resort-like property was defacto hers. So that kind of gets towards enforceability, even if a judgement is made in your favor.

You might search a bit more for it - headline was something like "Justice Received of Justice Served," though my memory could be off. If you find the thread, pm him to find out the lawyer's name and what happened in the end.

    Best of luck.

well not really, no divorce as no marriage. but as i heard from a reliable source, a very large settlement was entered into with she getting something like 12 million Baht if the place ever sold which i don't think it did - as you said.

it's an uphill battle. maybe don't waste your money on a lawyer. chok dee na

  14. Thanks for posting! 200 Baht is quite reasonable if it includes a beer. I'll visit next time I have visitors to entertain.

Where is it exactly? Is it alongside the soi where also the blues pub is?

No. Its *RIGHT* in middle of Anusarn Market. Like, right where all the families with young children are trying to enjoy dinner.... Hard to miss these flamboyant, scantily-clad ladyboys, behaving the same way you would expect them to late night on Pattaya Walking Street.

Forgive me for being a "hater", but there is a time and place for everything. And in the middle of a family dining experience is just really NOT the place for scantily-clad, sexually suggestive/ harassing ladyboys..

    -Mestizo

have to agree with you completely. it should be moved away from the area where families go.
