    Chaindrite powder, last for years.

    Thanks!

I just picked some up yesterday.

Any tips on the best way to use it?

The package is in Thai and I can not read the instructions.

    Thanks again.

Just got my box of 20 mule team Borax today at Walmart

    4 pounds / 1.80kg for US $4

if I just spread some around where the ants are will they take it back to the hive (if thats what its called)

or does it need sweet sugar / honey / donuts :) so they take the sweet part back to the hive ?

and how does that kill all the ants in the house ?  do  they all use the same hive ?

    Thanks for the info

    Walmart is in Thailand?

That is bad news if true.

I would rather live with ants than support Walmart!

    Walmart sucks, in many ways!

Try this, on their path to the AC.  They bring it back to the queen.  It will get rid of the hive, by the next day.

    5 parts sugar

1 part borax (no boric acid)  (can find in swimming pool store)

    2 parts warm water

Sounds like a great way to go. Thank you!

  4. Thanks, I will look for it.

I live in Isaan and don't know of any Foodland here.

When I lived in California, there was a product called  "Tanglefoot" that was like a very sticky, non toxic tooth paste that any insect trying to cross it would get stuck in it.

I was hoping to maybe find something like that here in Thailand.

  5. For the second time in a few months, I have had to have a repair man come out and fix my AC unit.

The problem is ants going into the unit and them shorting it out.

They seem to be entering the unit from inside the wall.

Has anyone else had this problem and know of a safe way to prevent it?

Even the repair man mentioned that it is not a great idea to spray the unit with an insecticide and then breath the air from it!

I have only lived in this home for one year now and do not know if ants are always a problem here or if this  is just a bad year for ants,

but it seems we are always battling ants and trying to keep them out of the house.

Any good advice on prevention would be very welcome.

  6. That was a pretty long, in depth post to just end up as an advertisement for a bar that sells pizza.

    I think actually that it was just the depth that slipped you, and I think it was lost on you. I wrote that;

"you can get Pizza that is really good, you can get Australian steak, spaghetti, mashed potatoes and good sauces, irish coffe, Beer and grogg. Life is good, and all the falangs here are very happy about this."

Meaning that it is not just A bar, it is more like THE bar for us who lives here. You do not do that I can see...

Instead, plse be happy for us here...

    Glegolo

    I do understand.

What you are saying is that you now have your farang oasis in the Issan desert..

and I am happy for you.

    Enjoy.

  7. If you moved to Issan expecting to hang out with farangs in a farang bar,

I guess you deserved the eight year wait

I didn't come to Issan to see frangs.

I would have lived in southern ( Bangkok and below ) if I wanted more "farang in my life.

When I want a bar, Thai bars are just fine with me.

I am glad you have found a place you feel comfortable in.

But personally, the more farangs and farang style business that come to Issan, the less it feels like Issan to me.

    Cheers!

  8. An interesting post,

But when I read "Compared to women, only only 3% of men work in positions that contribute taxable income to the society."

It made me wonder how many of us farangs in Thailand fall into the same category?

I myself could be seen that way.

I have an income form outside of Thailand that is not really taxed here as income, and I have a Thai wife who works and pays taxes on her income.

If we are being honest, I think a lot of foreign husbands of Thai women are "samesame, but different.

    And, now..

It's time for all of you "Yeah buts" to reply.

Complete Bs, most men work in other countries.
I am sure some foreign men in Thailand do work in other countries, but I think they are a pretty small percentage of the foreign men in Thailand.

The majority of farangs I know here are either retired, living off of their pensions, social security and the like or are living off their savings and investments, not "working" anywhere.,

If you are confident enough to claim my statement is "Bs", please provide some statistics ( and the source ) to back up your insult.

I'm talking about Australian men working in Australia for eg, not Australian men working in Thailand.

Why would I compare aussie men in Thailand with Thai men in Thailand, the expats done the hard yards, are retired and living off their own earnings.

The comparison as common sense should dictate is between thai men living in Thailand and farang men living in farangland.

In comparison thai men are useless, based on not all but majority rule.

Why would you compare with farang men in Thailand, makes no sense.

You either did not read my original post or you failed to comprehend what I said.

It is pretty clear that I was talking about foreign men, married to Thai women and living in Thailand.

and yet you jumped at the chance to insult me and call my post "Bs"

I really don't care what Australian men do in OZ and that has absolutely nothing to do with this topic.

    Thanks for the apology !

  11. "It seems like a pretty severe penalty. "

What is really severe is the possible repercussions of driving intoxicated.

Putting your life and the lives of other innocent people in jeopardy is nothing to be taken lightly and the penalties should be even more severe.

Driving in Thailand is already way too dangerous without buzzed drivers on the road.

Having a few drinks is not a bad thing, but do it at home or find a sober driver....maybe a taxi?

  12. Today I applied for an extension of my Non O Thai wife visa for the forth time and everything went well.

The officer who processed my application asked me if I would rather get a retirement visa and said they were much easier and much less paperwork.

Since I had everything ready for the Non O Thai wife visa, I told her no, maybe next year.

I think I remember reading here on TV that there are advantages to having the Non O that I have over the retirement visa, but I can not remember what they were.

Money is not a problem, my income qualifies me for either.

I am asking for input on the advantages on one visa over the other.

    Thanks in advance.

  13. Kind of an interesting experience I think.

I have a habit of playing recordings in the early morning while I am watering my garden, feeding my ducks and fish and the like.

I have some good sized speakers outside so I can hear them all over the property,

I often play recordings of things like meditation bells, or rain storms ( I know, I'm strange )

Recently I started playing recordings of things like birds of the rain forest.

On about the third morning, I noticed the Myna birds were mimicking the calls of the birds of the rain forest !

Where do you live? And what kind of Myna? Hill Mynas are amazing mimics. I had one near my place here in Chonburi where i run and it would mimic sirens and often call with what sounded like a human saying "Wow!" Common and White-vented are most common here and they seem to to mimic so much. here a

I live on the outskirts of Chok Chai, about 30 km south of Korat.

I do not know what kind of myna they are, but there are quite a few of them.

  14. It seems most of the information they ask you for is the same information you provide when applying for a visa or an extension of same.

I am about to complete my fifth year here and have yet to get a visit from police or immigration ( except for one occasion when local police came to my home to ask me to teach officers to speak English).

I am aware that I could get a visit from either at any time.

Nothing to hide, nothing to fear.

If they call ahead, I will prepare a nice lunch before they arrive.

  15. I agree.

I prefer tomatoes with more base and less trebel.

And their volume turned up to eleven!cheesy.gif

Oh the irony here.... you managed to spell both bass and treble wrong while making a joke about the spelling. LOL Well done!

And you are the first to notice, or at least mention it. LOL, Well done...

    or is that medium rare?

  16. Chonburi area- Tomatoes- at Makro 59 Baht per Kg/ Big C- 55 B/ Lotus-59 B/ Market 70B- per. Also, other vegetable prices up as well as eggs. If this is because of the drought- simply go back to Songkran when people were wasting water and no conservation efforts. Now everyone suffering from high prices .

Where did all that "wasted water" from songkran go??

It went back into the ground and became ( guess what) ground water, or evaporated, went into the atmosphere, condensed and became rain.

Water does not vanish, it just cycles

The conservation needed is retaining the flood waters in rainy season in resiviours for use in the dry season rather than letting it all flow down the river into the gulf where it becomes useless.

    This would also reduce flooding.

  17. There is a strange attitude about safety and fault while driving here in Thailand.

I will never forget an incident a couple of years ago where a young woman on a motorbike was waiting in a turning lane to make a left turn when I driver in a truck drove right over her while using the lane to pass a car.

    She was killed. **

I found it hard to believe when I heard Thai people state that it was not the truck drivers fault because he was passing someone!

If you drive in Thailand for very long, you learn that Thai drivers feel they obligated pass every vehicle possible, no matter how dangerous it is to do so.

But to the point of killing others in the process of passing, I will never understand.

** She was 19 years old, recently married, and had a new baby.
