Hello all,
I am interested in buying an ADV 160 and live in Bangkok. I currently drive a 2013 PCX and it is time to upgrade. I was thinking the ADV 160 would be great to handle all of the poor road conditions throughout the city with a little more comfort given the fatter and more rugged tires. However it seems the handlebars are a bit wider then any bike I have ridden in Bangkok. Also, considering just going to a Forza 350 which surprisingly has more narrow handlebars despite being a bigger bike .
Any ADV riders here have any feedback on the extra width of the handlebars? Do you find it more troublesome when weaving thru traffic? Or is it a non-issue in general? Even when I am on little clicks or qbix you kind of have to do a heavy lean to side when in stop and go traffic to maneuver thru the cars when cars are stopped mirror to mirror. So was wondering if ADV owners find it more annoying or it's not a big deal at all as this is a small part of the time you are using the bike so the pros outweigh the cons.
And Forza riders, do you guys find any issues in traffic with the bigger bike compared to when you may have driven a smaller cc bike?
I am probably thinking too much about it. Both seem like good bikes. But any feedback I would be appreciative of.
Thanks for any feedback. Cheers!

I mailed my passport to the US embassy in BKK and they got me back a new one in less than 3 weeks. Super fast and easy. Instruction on the embassy website. Can just knock that out if you want.

Hello guys,
Does anyone know of a supplier that sells/delivers/refills CO2 tanks? I live near Town in Town / Lat Phrao / Chalong Expressway. If anyone knows suppliers in my general vicinity, or ones that deliver wide, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Hello all,
I am looking at running eight 1000 watt LED grow lights for an indoor grow. I obviously need to get the electrical issues sorted but have no experience with this. It was recommended I ask this forum so thanks in advance.
Main Question: Can I use the American made Titan light controller (240v / 80 amps input / 60 amps output / 60hz) at my house. Will the fact it is 60 hz be problematic in Thailand?
I have seen some breakers have written 50 hz, and some say 50/60 hz. My breakers don't mention hz, only 240w. Below is more information if interested as well as pics.
I was looking at ordering a Titan Light Controller (linked below) to connect directly to the circuit breaker, and then plug the 8 lights directly into that.
The Titan is made in the US and is stating:
- Operates up to 12 -1000 Watt grow lights at 240 volts
- Universal outlets will accept either 120 volt or 240 volt ballast cord sets
- 80 Amps power input/60 Amps power output
- 240 Volts/60 Hz./12,000 Watt Max
- 60 Hz.
However, the Safe-T-Cut is showing:
- 220/240VAC 50hz 2p
- 60 amps?
- A 40 degree C 10000 AIC @ 240VAC
- IAN 5 / 15/ 25 mA
- Tripping Time 0.05 sec
The breakers all seem to be 240v, range of C10, C16, C20 and also say 6000 - 3 if that is relevant. There are 2 open slots in the box.
I apologize for being a total novice, but am smart enough to know I need help. Definitely do not plan on doing the work myself, but any insight into what is possible or causes of concern would be much appreciated. Cheers

Lol fair enough. Buuuut fawk it we are going for it. What did you mean by "fashion lights?" Just for show and not effective?

Kingbrite are good, but those appear to be 2x the normal price for quality leds.
Not sure why you aren't buying the more normal locally available quantum boards with meanwell drivers at 5kbht for 240w. As you appear to be going for a commercial grow, buying a fashion light doesn't make much sense to me.
I can get this model for $800 so it is not as expensive as listed. Seemed like good price as I haven't seen any 1000 watts for $800. Yes, definitely a bit more than buying 600w, but am assuming the extra watts can crank out more yield? Buuut I am a noob

Also, which brand did you get? Any recommendations. Appreciate it.

Did you have any issues with customs getting thru? Or did they just deliver to the door no worries? Thanks man.

Hello all,
I am wondering if anyone knows where I can buy a light controller in Thailand? If not, I will have to order from abroad but figured it was worth checking here first. I am no expert, but am familiar with the linked Titan Brand. I would need at least an 8 light unit. Thank you for any insight. Cheers.

1000w LEDs seems unlikely, beware of scammers selling lights that won't grow anything.
Well I hope they are legit lol. What do you think of these specs? Kingbrite seem to have a good reviews from my online research. But yeah, I hear about false specs on lights.

Ok you guys are hired lol. Great information here, what a resource.
We are getting eight 1000w LEDs. Not sure if we run 4 lights in 2 different room are can make all 8 in one room.
Given the different demands of the different equipment, lights, fans, water system, dehumidifier, air cons, etc, how much should you stress any particular outlet? Should each light be on their own outlet or can you run a few lights through a single power strip?
So many fans I am guess. My first run at it but I will have help from friend with experience. Thanks guys

Hello all. Looking to start growing cannabis with 4-8 lights in a big house. Given all the electrical needs for such an operation, could anyone describe the amount of electrical upgrades that would need to be made to your average expat standard house (whatever that means) in Bangkok.
A lot of the house just have a one or two 2 hole outlets per room that seem fairly old. Would need to add a lot more outlets and maybe more fuse boxes? I am not well versed in this at all, but trying to get an idea of what that might entail to upgrade the electricity to cover the potential needs.
Any idea what that might cost in Bangkok? Or about how long to install? Thanks for any insight.
Cheers!

Hello all,
Does anyone have any recommendations for stores or websites to buy quality LED grow lights? Ideally with a store I can visit and look at products, but if not that, any good supplier websites based in Thailand?
I am based in Bangkok and would love to be able to go to a quality shop. I have seen online the Accent Hydro shop in Lat Phrao, but they don't have any LEDs in stock apparently at the moment.
Any insight anyone can give me would be much appreciated. Thank you guys. Cheers. -

Hello all,
I am wondering if it is possible to open a bank account on the 60 day covid visa. Has anyone has any success with opening a bank account on this visa?
**I am asking for a friend as I opened my bank acct while on an education visa.
Thank you guys for any insight! Cheers.

Thanks for the info, as you rode from Surat to Phuket, so you can tour...., next time just ride up to Hua Hin and stay a night there, then down south, I think even with hotel, food and a beer it would cost less. ! ????
I live in Phuket so came back home. But last month I drove to Bangkok from Phuket and stopped off in Hua Hin for 4 nights. Had a good time! Will be back again before too long I am sure.
Was just a bit lazy to drive all the way back to Phuket since I have already done the drive and the weather has been not ideal for touring from what I had seen in BKK at least as of late.

as far as I know all "Express" type have cargo for motorcycles.
Post office do it by green book copy, but more pricy than train + about 250 B for wrapping if I recall it correctly.
I prefer train rather than post office, but soon I'm going to send my motorcycle by PO since I live far away in North of Bangkok. Too far from the train station (I have a luggage too).Oh ok, good to know about Express trains. I was looking online at tickets and wasn't sure which one would have the cargo, so I ended up just driving to the station and buying the ticket after asking if bike could go on. Should have asked more generally for future reference.
Yeah PO sounds good option too if far away from train station or just can't be bothered and prefer to fly yourself. Thanks

Great info, very interesting. Thank you
too bad on the cc limitation though..
Yeah agreed. Would be nice if bigger bikes allowed too. I wonder if because they might not have enough staff to get the bigger heavier bikes on? I don't know. Seems like they are actually lifting the bikes on rather than rolling them on somehow...but again I didn't know or see in my bike's case.

No problem if gas in the tank?
They made no mention of gas in the tank. I was down to 1 or 2 bars on the gauge anyway, but they couldn't see that since they never had the key. But yeah they didn't seem concerned.

I dont know man, but they might not be so careful with it or forget to take off the train at your stop lol. Up to you man.

Hey guys,
Just thought I would post some info incase anyone was interested. I took the train from Bangkok to Surat Thani this week on Train #85. Overnight sleeper train from Hua Lamphong to Surat Thani. On-time departure at 7:30 pm and 2.5 hour late arrival at 9:30am (scheduled 7:00am).
I brought my PCX 150cc bike on the train. Super easy, drove it straight up the little building inside the station right next to track #12. I paid 1,026 baht for the bike, and around 810 baht for my own ticket (2nd class sleeper which was great and spacious but no electrical outlet if that matters). The guy who did the paperwork/payment for the bike then immediately pointed me to the train staff who only said one word to me...."tip, tip." I gave the 2 of them a total of 200 baht which maybe is a bit much but whatever, they were pleased. Then went inside station and waited for train to arrive. When I came back board the train I didn't see the bike as they had already loaded it on the train.
I chose not to wrap it with bubble wrap, but you can pay them 150 baht to do that for you. My bike is a 2013 so I wasn't too concerned. But staff didn't seem to think it was needed asking like "you worried?" when I inquired. When I arrived in Surat Thani, my bike was already sitting on the platform by the time I got off the train. It was in same shape but just a little dusty. All good.
Previously I have seen blogs saying they made rule in 2018 with 125cc maximum size for bike on the train, but they told me now it is 155cc maximum. Which makes more sense to be able to include all the PCX, NMAX, and Aerox and other 150cc models. I stopped by stations in Trang and Chumphon when I drove thru last month to check and they all said same 155cc maximum.
Main things they said:
-arrive one hour before train departure.
-have your own seat ticket already for the train before dealing with bike.
-make sure your train has has the cargo hold for the bike as maybe not all trains do? I am not sure about this but ask before buying seat
-they told me I needed the green book which I had. Not sure what they would do with out or just a copy.
-tip the handlers
-can pay them to wrap bike for 150 baht
That is about all I can think of. Easy trip. Left BKK at 7:30pm, arrived in Surat Thani 9:30am and by 2pm I was in Phuket.
Cheers!

How long that take you on the scoot?
I took my time with it. I started in Rawai then stayed the night in Khao Lak, Ranong, Chumphon, Prachuap Khiri Kan, Hua Hin and then arrived in Bangkok.
So in all about 10 days because I stayed 4 night in Hua Hin, but was driving towards to BKK for 6 of them. Typically do around 150km a day. No rush at all as I like to explore around a bit and do some photography/video with drone.

The Forza and Xmax are great bikes. I'm partial to the Xmax, because I find it much more beautiful.
Having said that, I would still pick the CB500X over them if you're planning to do a lot of kilometres out of the city. It's more comfortable, handles more weight, it's more customisable and no doubt much more fun (although it is uglier than the Xmax).
Where the CB500X will be massively better than a Forza / Xmax is when you ride with a pillion. A Forza / Xmax with a pillion + baggage will be as dangerous as you riding alone on a PCX / Nmax, even if it's a tiny 150cm 45kg pillion.
If you're mostly riding alone, you'll be fine with the Forza / Xmax, even for long distances.
You certainly nailed the pillion dimensions lol.
Honda ADV 150/160 or Forza 350 in Bangkok - Handlebar Width Question

@digbeth Yeah good point with the mirrors vs handlebars. I definitely have to fold in the mirrors first when dealing with tight traffic in my experience. Will consider some modifications as I have certainly noticed many people with those tight little mirrors coming of the center column. I didn't know if those would be effective at all as I definitely use my mirrors. Something to consider.
@Agusts I was focused on just the extra width of handlebars, but yeah you are right the weight and length will prob be the bigger issues when tight maneuvering we all come to love dealing with in Bangkok.
In regards to the leg length, I hadn't considered that aspect coming from the PCX to the ADV. I rode an ADV several years ago but haven't recently. As someone who is 6ft2in, this is definitely something to consider. The new 2024 160's which is what I had my eye on also changed the seat arrangement. I read
"Although the overall stance of the new 2024 Honda ADV 160 is about 4.6 inches taller than the previous model, the seat height is lower by 0.6 inches to give an overall height of 30.1 inches. This reduced seat height makes riding on the scooter easier for short individuals by helping them place their feet more comfortably while riding."
Thanks y'all for the comments!
