PBob replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Time to plant bamboo. Think of all the scaffolding they will need. -

Plenty of good restaurants in Ayutthaya, for a great one try Baan Ta Koh Rai. My favourites are Prawns with black tofu, fish ball green curry and salted fish with greens.

I have tried a few and they are a mixed bag, most are nothing special and those that are often struggle with the publicity. Takohrai in Ayutthay is consistantly good, but avoid the crowd during holidays.

documents to submit for extension of retirement visa
PBob replied to fvw53's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I picked up a set of application documents from Pathumthani immigration last week and I will scan and post here when I get home. I could not see any difference since last year, but I always take copies of everything. You may also need to do a TM30 at the same time, so have that paperwork ready. -
Latest that I have heard. Officials have visited the steps and determined that they are on public land. Swiss man claims he slipped. Just enjoy the story.

Try a government hospital, I am being treated at Bhumipol (RTAF) hospital and my total drugs bill was 6,900 baht that included 3x30 Xarelto 20mg (bill not itemised). Years ago I was buying from Withoon Pharmacy in Saphan Kwai for around 3,500 a box of 30.

Bank transfer after 1st Jan or now?
PBob replied to kwak250's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
What are the chances of them coming up with a clever scheme that everyone understands. With a cadre of English speaking officers conversant with taxation in Thailand and other countties. I think we will get some half baked scheme for a couple of months that will screw up foreign transfers before being dropped. I would ensure that you have enough cash in Thailand before the new year. -
Living in North Bangkok and Communiting to Southern Ayutthaya?
PBob replied to TravelTeach's topic in Bangkok
I live in Khlong Sam and the university is easy to get to with a car. The local roads can be a nightmare at peak times but once you get to highway 9 its quick. You could do it on a motorcycle using the back roads, its very rural north of Khlong Luang. Plenty of night life around but you will need a car or taxi. It is also easy to get to the city using the MRTA. -
Some of the BBC stations are currently geo-restricted due to World Cup rights. Radio London is currently restricted as it often merges with Radio 5 Live. Listening to it now via VPN.

My resident expert says they are in season in May and you should be able to find them in Talad Thai (Pathumthani).

Interesting attitude, I wonder how this will affect the order for ukranian AFV. Would a principled country want to sell arms to one lacking principles. With my Nostradamus hat on I predict a few years from now trouble with China. SE Asian countries baulk at paying the 'vig' on loans to fund various projects and a little anti-chinese sentiment is whipped up. China invades Loas to protect chinese interests/people. The world condemns the action and does nothing and SE Asian countries fall into line with the China demands. Thais think the saying 'kill a chicken to scare the monkeys' is theirs, but its origin is chinese.

Had my booster in local hospital (Klong Luang). Only Pfizer for boosters, others getting AZ and Sinovav for jabs 1 and 2. Walk in service you need passport, covid certificate and proof you live in the area, but they did not ask for it. In and out in just over one hour, you had to wait 30 minutes after jab, to check for immediate side effects. Knew about it bacause my wife is a regular having physio. Sore and listless today so taking it easy.

I opened my account at BIL Krungsri branch after he vouched for me. It may not work now because a few years ago the deputy manager who set up the account asked me how I did it.

Same here. Applied Chang Wattana 11am Wednesday, plenty of parking and out in 10 minutes, just arrived 47 hours later. Would have been perfect except that the traffic was horrific.

Just got my second Jab today and the Mor Prom App doesn't work
PBob replied to Jaws1973's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
Had the problem with the Mor Phrom app not recognising my phone number, after trying for several days after 2nd jab. Checked with hospital and Mor Phrom help desk and the phone number linked to jab registration was correct. Mor Phrom help desk suggested we register using Line app and everything worked, including Mor Phrom app. -

Anyone making UK style pickled eggs? - Care to share your secrets?

Piccalilli, my goto pickle. The recipe from Mark Hix is the one I use. Pickled Red Cabbage is the favourite of my Thai neighbours. -
A few years ago I never got the confirmation email, so I went back into the system with my details and printed out the 'approved' messages. When I tried to do my next 90 day online it would not let me, so I did it at the immigration office. Immigration officer: 'You did not do your last 90 day report'. Me & Mrs: 'I did it online, here is a print of the approval'. Immigration officer: 'Approval does not mean it was approved. I will let you off this time'. Have a new passport now so online reporting not possible.

Short on vaccines, Thailand seeks to borrow from Bhutan
PBob replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"after AstraZeneca said it could supply the country with about five to six million monthly doses, about half of what the government had targeted" Article forgot to mention this was twice the amount the government ordered.
