  1. To answer your questions one by one

1: If I change the country/region setting to Thailand, will there be issues with U.S. banking apps, or other apps in general?

Yes. A lot of banking apps are only regionally available. This is due to the developer need to pay for each different region a fee for listing. As banking apps are "local" apps they will not pay for worldwide access. Same for different other apps. Therefore do not change it, but setup a new Apple id, which you can easily switch between in the app store app. DO not change the Apple id in the settings, as this will screw up your phone.

2: What happens when I go to upgrade my iPhone and purchase it in Thailand? I assume it will come set to Thailand as country/region.

Nothing will change. iPhones are not locked for a specific region. As soon as you register the phone with your apple id it will change the region and language settings, etc. Only difference will be the warranty. iPhones will get only a local warranty. Same for other products with wireless possibilities.

3: Being physically in Thailand, will I be Able to change the country/region to U.S., if needed?

Yes, but it does not always work and it does not change your geocaching and gps settings. You just go to setting -> General -> Language & Region -> Region. You can switch the country and Apple will show you the available services in the country of your choosing.

Agreed, the repair garage is responsible; see my previous post.

However, roojai should be involved, especially if the car is still in the shop and the OP hasn't accepted the repair as complete.

The issue is not the repair itself. The repair was done quite well and I signed off on it. The issue was, that the garage tried to cover up the paint on the black plastic parts of my car. Anyway, I got a hold of a Manager at Roojai and hopefully it is getting solved now.

it seems to me that Roojai isn't responsible for this.

the garage is at fault - I wonder if they are insured?

who is the garage's client? is it you and Roojai foots the repair bill, or is it Roojai directly, i.e. the garage invoices Roojai directly?

Roojai is responsible. It is a contractor of Roojai and they agreed the price and pay him directly. No involvement of mine and no say if I wanted to go there or not.

  4. Hi. I am currently running into some issues with Roojai.

Does someone had similar experience and/or a contact from somebody in the higher management.

Basically I claim an not at fault accident and had to go to one of their service garages. Sadly this garage screwed up and left paint spots all over my car.

Now a lot of parts need to be changed due to cannot be painted or repaired.

Roojai is only answering e-mails after numerous follow ups and give me the run around with meetings and further inspections of the car.

Before I signed up with them I only heard good things, but apparently there is always the one in a million.

Never mind the whisky, you cant send anything at all to the USA or Europe right now because the Thai postal service is not operating there at the moment on account of Covid19 disruptions to air traffic. My online shop has been closed since March as I am unable to ship anything except by EMS which is too expense  to make any profit. My shop has had to close and I have lost about 60,000 baht as a result.

Not correct anymore. ThaiPost already allows international shipments coming in and going out. 4 weeks ago I send something to Germany and got a package from Switzerland. Both via ThaiPost.

  6. Thank you Sheryl for your help.

We do have a private insurance from our company and the Social Security.

Anyway, I will check with my HR first in regards to my registered Social Security Hospital and then go to BKK.

My next appointment would be beginning of September, so I still have some time.

  7. Sadly my insurance booted me after I was diagnosed and treated for cancer.

I do have a new private health insurance, but this one is not covering cancer treatments or check ups for the next 2 years. I do have an insurance through my company, but I know it will be of not much help for this.

Does anyone know a good government or cheap semi/private hospital in Chonburi/Rayong or BKK area, where I can do my follow up appointments for PET/CT Scans and Ultrasound, as DVT is not covered as well.

  8. You can use you Debit Card, but make sure that it is activated for use outside Thailand. Either call the BBL Hotline onl 1333. They will need to verify your information. Easier will be at the branch you opened your account. There you will only need to sign a document, but takes slightly longer until it is setup in the system.

Make sure that your withdrawal limit is adjusted accordingly, otherwise you might be only able to withdrawal a lower amount.

  9. All 3D printers require a license from the THAI government. The explanation is easy but ridiculous. You could print a weapon with it. That is true but most likely not the reason to acquire one. Therefore as a private person I would leave my hands off it and buy one locally

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect

  10. If it is FCL they will usually land at Laem Chabang. Cost for transport around the 5000THB mark. THC or Terminal Handling Charge is charged by the Terminal or port operator. Container Handling is asked by the CY and carrier. Depending on what you want you could go with the big names for local handling like Leschaco, Kuehne-Nagel, DBSCHENKER. They are all in the same region price wise. Customs clearance is around THB 2000 but depends what need to be done. Duty and VAT are a different topic. Other charges depending as well of the location the product/machinery is coming from.

  11. Sorry if this question has been asked before but I could not find any answer. We would like to hire a Nanny from the Phillipines. Someone we knew before and trust. I am now receiving contradictive information in regards to the visa and work permit situation. According to some people we spine with, they would not require a work permit as they are a member of the ASEAN and Nanny is not an occupation reserved for Thais. Otherwise think that they would need to get a work permit and it would be difficult to obtain as they would be hired privately. Does anyone have a better insight? I have already contacted the lawyer sponsoring Thaivisa but until today no answer. I thought maybe someone from here can assist.

  12. Was your GF officially married to the father of her children? If not he will not have anymore rights then you. If your GF should pass away, then her parents would become the legal guardians. If their father choose to become the guardian and legally become the father he would need to go to court.

  13. To be honest. Go back to university. Get a degree in English and German or French and then come back to Asia to teach. You will be better off in the long run. Without a degree you cannot do anything for long. Show discipline by learning the right techniques. Get some experience in teaching in Germany or France and the. You can come to Asia. With 21 years nobody in Asia will take you serious as you are lacking the seniority needed to get respect and the attention needed.

  14. You're American right? You hardly know what tax is.

So Thailand has high import tax on clothing. So does India, so does South Africa, so does Brazil. The idea is to protect the local industry. Probably 40%, by the sound of it. UPS will add handling/customs fees.

    The arithmetic

<< That's what I did. I also never ever used a courier service again. >>

it depends on the country. Typically, the PO depot / international hub has a Customs department, staffed by Revenue Service / Customs. If you use post services instead of courier, they will calculate the import duty and you pay when you collect the parcel.

The arithmetic that Don Mega showed is wrong. The import duty is calculated on the value of the goods, not including the shipping cost. Then after the import duty is added, there may be VAT.

with my experience non-courier services (normal post) a lot of the times the parcels simply come in under the radar, occasionally I do get stung for import taxes and duties but that is rare.

Same in SA. But if it's labeled as Clothing [or whatever - computer components or whatever] the import duty will be applied.

Sorry to correct you, but the import duty is calculated based on the CIF value. That means purchase price + transport + insurance

The vat is calculated based on CIF value + duty paid
