  1. My Thai driving license expires in a few weeks. I went ahaed ad did the test for renewal online. Now I wanted to book the appointment on the App, and the next open slots are only available in February... here in Bangkok

    Question:

    - Is it still possible to go as a walk-in, and just wait a bit longer?

    - What do I need to bring, besides expiering license, medical certificate, QRCode from the test, passport& copies...

I am sure this has been discussed in lenghts previously, but could not find the forum, or topic.

    Thanks

I used to live in Orlando FL near Disney World.

I got drastically reduced rates for season tickets because I lived in the area.

    Was that fair or racist?

That was good business! Likely, Disney made more money that way.

If they would charge everyone 200 Baht and give Thai Nationals a 120 Baht Discount, on presenting a National ID card, I would understand it better. A local discount is OK in my mind.

In current practice prices are applied based on how one looks. We went to a national park and had our foreign maid with us. She was given the Thai price no questions, as she looks Thai.

National Parks, Museum etc. are easily justified for dual pricing, as presumable they are partly maintained from Thai Taxpayers money. What really gets me are commercial enterprises that charge foreigners massive markups. I am known for enjoying a cup of coffee outside whilst my family visits the Aquarium, which by the way was foreign owned.

The judiciary is the ( totally compromised regime owned) tool which will be used to keep him out of power.

Then a reform of the judiciary should be the first step.

Pita may ends up not becoming an MP, as he held media company shares which prohibits him from being elected. That would be the law, not a compromised judiciary.

However, to be elected PM does not require to be an MP. So he still could and should be in power.

  4. I managed to get the Elite Visa without TM30. This works if you time things right and arrange for the Visa to be issued on arrival in BKK- Suvarnabhumi, i.e. before you would need to have a TM30.

Also, the visa comes in 5-year increments. The immigration stamp is valid for one year. As I am traveling multiple times per year in and out, I don't foresee a need to do any extensions requiring a TM30. If you don't travel internationally, then a once-a-year border run might be more entertaining than jumping through hoops...

The only way they can clean this up is by banning the use of third party agencies and set up an independent appeals process. I went for a marriage visa years ago and they had me running around like a blue <deleted> fly. Oh this one need colour photo copy. Oh this you need 6 copies not 2 copies. This one no good need to go get new copy, signature touching line. Blaa Blaa Blaa. I eventually did what they said until they realized i wasn't going away. I paid the 1900 baht and she gave me back my passport and a big stack of A4 photocopies. Then her last words. ''Better you go see agent next time''! If there was an independent agency you could approach and show them what you have had to go through and they came down hard on these employees this would all stop in no time.

I know exactly what you have been through. Same here. I used agents for years, even though I always had everything needed for my extensions. It was a pleasant and fast process. Couple years back the Misses asked me "why are you wasting your money on these agents? You have everything. We can do that ourselves."  So we did. I now need to plan three full days to run around, even so I bring plenty of copies, photos etc.. Last year the problem was with the photos. They asked for photos of the kids in school, despite schools being closed a long time with the pandemic. Went back home and printed pictures from previous year...  One year a used a family Photo that unfortunately included my SIL at the dinner table. That is apparently not allowed.

Well, your experience of a hotel can be subjective.

You think the receptionist was rude, or the service wasn’t up to your standard, etc. That’s why when I read reviews I can spot the unreasonable looking ones and the ones that seem to make sense. Good or bad.

Exactly. Only few performances can be measured with some degree of objectivity. To wait 20 minutes for a beverage, or to get cold food is objectively bad. But friendliness for example comes in many facettes. What one thinks is friendly, some else may considers plainly rude. Depending on the cultural background.

Anyway, I will continue to review as objective as I can, and be nice about it. If I don't like something, I will also say so.

Little bit advice to any business in any sector: don’t have your customers imprisoned. It isn’t a good look.

People leave bad reviews. This is life. Explain why the review is wrong or at least try to settle it with the guest. This has now just made it much worse for the hotel.

And before people say it’s the law or the police did it, etc, once you go to the police to file charges for someone writing bad reviews, you can safely assume they’ll be arrested if the case is accepted. That’s how filing complaints with the police works.

    You are 100% right.

But I do understand the Hotel. I use review sites when I am super happy or very disappointed. However, posts should always be factual.  In a way, I do like having a legal recourse against defamation.

  8. I use(d) online ordering for things that are not easy to find locally, be it a special wine or a specific imported beer. Guessing that this is the primary use of online booze shops. Fail to understand how this ban could help eliminate under age sales in a meaningful manner.

I am pretty sure my Kids could go to any local Mom&Pop and buy any alcohol they want.

How easy would it have been to mandate an age verification step in the online purchase?
