On a side note, I still find it amazing when speaking with my daughter. From day one I spoke English with her, wife spoke Issan. My daughter can carry on a conversation with both of us mixing English and Thai in the same sentence. Like it is one language! Always get a kick out of it. Also with her being so light skinned, pale like me, when we are in a coffee shop we like to get tongues rolling by speaking to each other in Thai. People around us just stare. In a good way. Dont get yer knickers in a knot, my Thai is not very good, but my daughter and I have this thing were she understands what I am trying to say based on our conversation. I found it frustrating years ago not being able to read a menu in a restaurant. Always asking my wife ..what's this...whats that..so that is where I started. The best thing is nearly every menu is constructed the same way. So once you know the heading - appetizer - fish- pork etc the rest of the items are the same. Now I can for the most part "read" a menu.

It has been this way for a while now. KTB has a print out that they provide foreigners on how to open an account. Very strict in inforcing them. Kasikorn opened an account for me. A few others I tried would not. This was in Nong Khai.

They are not just targeting foreigners. Many Thai papers, social media, and news outlets have continued to reinforce this information to the locals. There are signs everywhere indicating to wear masks still. Just the messaging is in the Thai language. In our community we have posters, leaflets, people door to door handing out pamphlets, local medical clinic offers weekly roundtable talks and other meetings. So, no, they are not just picking on foreigners, but how else do they communicate this to non Thai speaking residents? I don't really care one way or the other. No skin off my nose to wear a mask or not. I am not that fragile to feel it violates my rights. I do however refuse to wear a seatbelt as they do restrict my first amendment rights.

The biggest benefit to wearing the masks again, bad breath. Wowzers when I stopped using a mask a while back what I noticed was the number of people would had horrible breath. From banks, to restaurants, to just people walking down the street. Just recently flew out of Bangkok and standing in lines noticed it a lot. I still carry a fresh mask with me now just on those occasions where I might get stuck in a line up. I am quite particular about oral hygiene so I know it is not mine.

Why would they not have released some of this during the pandemic. I am sure there would have been plenty of households were a 50kg bag of rice, even in not mint condition, would have been welcomed. After a quick Google search most comments were white rice had a shelf life of 2 years, but under the right storage conditions 10 years or more is possible. Biggest issue is moisture and temperature.

I have to think that if one is going to commit to this sort of activity, being caught and outed is really not that big of a concern. Was he the bottom?

This is how I see the USA becoming under another 4 years of DT. Deny, fake news, delay. Really thought this was a joke at first glance. Silly thing to do. However from my neck of the woods it would be the first time ever police have ever pulled someone over for riding to far from the curb and speeding. Lots of follow up posts on here claiming police officer did not play by the rule book, which is the norm up in my neck of the woods. I have noticed an uptick in check stops the last two weeks. Most of last year, Jan, Feb hardly saw a one on my daily commute to my daughter's school. This month, everyday. Made a note to myself to get back into Thai response mode, accept, be polite and move on. On a side note have not met too many NZ'ers here however the few I have met were quite pleasant. But judging from some of the posters in this thread it appears they do not have a very good reputation. Go figure.

I knew somebody would come along. Yes from the person (outsider) integrating into Thai society, one can certainly feel as though they have integrated. I live pretty much here as I do in Canada. Work, drive kid to school, parent teacher days, parties with the neighbors, work my garden, but I am, and always will be an outsider in the eyes of everyone including family. I do agree simply living here normally within the community is a correct statement. That is in no way being integrated within a society. Had the OP question been - Do you simply live here in Thailand accepting all the restrictions placed upon all Non-Thai people as being acceptable for you? Then yes. You won't agree, I don't really care, Thai society will never allow you to become an equal member of their society. Thus you can not integrated into Thai society. It will always be one sided. Like marriage. One person says I do and believes they are married. But if the other person says I do but does not believe the words they say, or mean it, are you married? On paper, yes. In reality, no. Such is Thailand. I like living here. Love my lifestyle. Love my family & friends. I have a good life here. But would never, ever let my guard down believing I am one of them.

As mentioned by others. Thai people do not want to "integrate' with anyone. Most don't know what the word means. Same as Japan, South & North Korea, U.S.A., France, and many others. So there is no integration into Thai society. I don't care if you get PR, Thai passport, Yellow Book, Thai ID card, drivers license, if you ain't Thai you will never be allowed to integrate into Thai society. Just look at all the comments on the TikTok guy recently talking about quitting the UK and moving to Thailand. Many comments about his British name and look(believe he was of Arab decent born in London) meaning he would never be British because he didn't look British. So your poll is meaningless. Not saying Thai people Don't tolerate non-Thais, you just will never be one. And to those that will comment that you speak, read ,and write Thai, all your friends are Thai, you have a Thai spouse & children, you, yourself are not Thai and all of these people know it and accept it. But you will never be integrated as this would mean you have been accepted, or combined, with Thai society. This will never be allowed to happen.

Not sure how long you have been in Thailand, but I'M shocked your shocked at this behavior. There are two types, in my opinion, of people here in Thailand. Those that are in general nice. They are nice people, treat others with respect, treat animals humanely, are generally productive members if society. The second group are just cruel people. I have seen some of the cruelest behavior towards animals only in Thailand (or SEA in general). Burning, starving, beating, even other perverse actions, carried out by people on animals. Their actions unfortunately are not confined to animals either. Welcome to Thailand!

I agree to some degree. Big cities. Vancouver is horrible. Calgary it seems some areas of the city are under siege. Edmonton same. That being said for anyone working with an ok salary things can be good. My family love Canada. Go the PR route allows Thai's to work, provincial healthcare, etc. We split our incomes, half stay in Canada, send the rest to Thailand for retirement in 8 or 10 years. In Thailand I can see a Doctor anytime I need. Canada not so much. Schools in Canada are better. Earning potential in Canada, better. Quality of life, better in Canada. Weather, better in Canada, but we love to ski, snowmobile, swim, wakeboarding, hiking, etc. Still I enjoy my time when in Thailand.

After reading some of the comments regarding his name being British, got me thinking. I assume people are referencing that he is not white. So I was thinking what is the racial make up the UK. Surprise it is something like 83% white. This really surprised me. Judging by comments I assumed this number would be much smaller. Next group is 7% and I think it was Asian. Really seems there are some major issues with the UK when 83% of the population are ceding control to the other 17%, or so it would seem by many comments on social media.

Firstly, tell the wife you are going to do a pre trip scouting expedition to make sure this Thailand thing is safe! Secondly, find the cheapest hostel you can find, rent a ladyboy or two. Get it out of your system. Thirdly, go back home and tell the wife Thailand is a very scary place perhaps go to Greece. After your pre trip scouting expedition, of course. Repeat, and try the Philippines next.
