  1. Your maybe looking @ this from the wrong angle, in BKK it usually takes that woman forensic doctor to determine that someone with their hands tied behind their back and 2 bullet holes to the back of their head was infact murdered and didnt kill themself.

I wouldnt have thought she'll make it down to Rayong province very often :o

I always wonder how, year after year, the same old case (in variations) is brought up as a sort of proof to the contrary whenever anyone in Thailand is found having committed suicide.

People do commit genuine suicide in Thailand, and not a few do that. Both Thais and farang.

Of course, there will always be the odd case in which a murder is disguised as a suicide, or that a murder is mistaken as a suicide. And that even happens the other way around.

I remember a case in my neighborhood where a man was found hanging from a tree with his wrists tied, his feet on the ground, tied to bottom of the tree. At first police thought it was a murder, only when the forensic team arrived, and has carefully disentangled the rope from the ankles and wrists that they reconstructed the method how the man has tied the ropes himself in order to make sure that he will die.

But i guess reason will not overcome juicy speculation. It is always more mysterious to speculate on murder conspiracies than accepting the bland fact that people are so depressed at times that they can't find a way out and simply do commit suicide.

My personal guess for the high suicide rate in Thailand under Thais is a combination of factors. Some are directly stress related, where politics, unemployment and such do play a role. But i believe a lot is cultural, specifically face culture related. Thais have huge difficulties to open their true inner feelings to anyone, and when depressed have therefore no outlet to speak with anyone about their emotional problems.

I also believe that most of the suicides under farang, as we can see so often in Pattaya, are genuine suicides as well. Have a look at the many of the farang who make the holiday resort of Pattaya their home. They do often fall for the illusion of Thailand, and Pattaya in particular, being the 'Land of Smile' and paradise on earth. But after reality has set in, especially when some of the nastier aspects of reality intruded their personal life, they are not able to cope with adapting to a completely foreign society, that has it's own severe social difficulties.

Nobody was sayin that people dont commit suicide here. I was giving a suggestion as to why Rayong (not pattaya) might have a seemingly high suicide rate compared to other parts of the country.

Considering jobs/oppotunitys are in abundance in the area compared to other parts of Thailand, it doesnt quite fit in with your reasoning..

  3. Sheryl, If I remember correctly he said injection in your ear, which is why I wasnt to keen on the idea..

The course of dicloxacillin he gave me only lasted 3 days, and the infection re-occured as soon as I stoped taking it. So I ended up @ Bangkok Hospital, which incidently only had a 5 minute wait. The doc there gave me levofloxacin which u only have to take 1 pill of per day of.

Expensive pills tho, 1'200 baht for 5 of the bad boyz :o

  4. As far as I know a lot of the leather furniture in Bangkok/Thailand is made in Samut Prakarn.

Goto a place @ seacon square on the 3rd floor called Mobel Art Co, Ltd.. They have loads styles, most of which they can also offer as recliners, and on top of that they have a choice of about 25 different colors of leather.. Delivery only takes about 2/3 weeks.

Make sure u tell the girl u want the discount, special offer,etc.. Or you'll end up paying 40% more than u should :o

  5. Not sure what materials in particular you are looking for, but recently I bought a 3 seater leather couch which is really good quality and a 1 seater for less then 50k baht. They have a huge range and a big showroom...

You paid 50k for that in Samut Prakarn :o

  6. If Thailand ever was seen as a safe place, it isnt viewed as safe any more...

Look at all the media interest when a US girl gets murdered in Aruba, or a UK backpacker is murdered in AU.. These storys are followed up for months and months, because they are considered safe places for foreigners, and people are shocked as this does not usually happen.

If someone gets murdered in Thailand, the majority of time it doesnt even make the papers in the west.. Papers will only print storys that people are interested in, and its becoming that so common it isnt really news any more..

Pattaya for example, if a tourist knows when they are walking along beach road they have walked past the scenes of 3 or 4 murders in the last 2 years, is that going to make for a nice relaxed holliday stroll?

Or a tootle down the supermarket on the old 125, your going to need either eyes in the back of your head or a bullet proof helmet before long.

And in the taxi on the way home from Pattaya, real relaxing knowing 2 people have been executed and one person had their head cut off while traveling back to BKK in the last year :D

Thailand as an Asian family holliday destination :D

I wonder what Malaysias figures were like for 2005, how often do you hear about Tourists getting murdered down there? :o

  7. :D

Why single out world cup betting? Mobile car boot taxi casinos are the latest rage I hear :o

They are not mate, rummy is on the hitlist too.

Gambling arrest leads to the seizure of a gun and a large quantity of Yaba Tablets.

The local media covers gambling arrests on a regular basis. Despite warnings that gambling is illegal and can lead to imprisonment in some cases, the practice still occurs. Police Lieutenant Colonel Sutum from Pattaya Police Station assembled a team of officers after receiving information from a Police informant that gambling was taking place inside room number 206 at the Kaemasorn Apartments inside Soi 1 off the South Pattaya Road. A total of 4 people were found inside the room playing the card game Rummy. The grand total of 20 Baht in cash was confiscated as evidence of the gambling along with a deck of cards.

That works out @ 5 baht each, some high stakes gaming busted there.. I hope those arrested were ashamed of themselves :D

  8. I wouldn't necessarily put your adverse reaction down to the mixing of metronidazole and alcohol. I have been prescribed metronidazole on a couple of occasions. Once from a dentist for a gum infection and once in Thailand for an ear infection as well. Both times I have felt absolutely awful, similar to how you described. I didn't mix the metronidazole with alcohol, they are quite capable of making your feel like that all on there own!

I was told by my dentist that it is an extremely hardcore antibiotic that strips ALL bacteria from your system and feeling like this is not uncommon. I guess mixing with a couple of pints doesn't help! That said I just couldn't finish the whole course of these buggers! I think I lasted about three days...

I presume the prescribing of metronidazole is a kind of "if that doesn't sort the infection out nothing will" approach, I tend think it is more a case of "over egging the pudding"!

Those side effects were cut and pasted from the internet luckly, I didnt bother taking the Metromidazole after what I read, only the dicloxacillin which has cleared the infection up nicely :D

I forgot to mention, he was wanting to give me penicilin injection in my ear aswell :o

    Talk about over medication!

  9. A widespread myth holds that you shouldn't drink alcohol while taking antibiotics, but in fact, drinking doesn't lessen the effects of the drugs. However, alcohol can lower your general energy and delay your recovery so it is best to minimize drinking until you've finished the prescribed course of antibiotic treatment. (Beyond that, chronic liver damage from excessive alcohol consumption can affect the metabolism and toxicity of antibiotics.)

    antibiotics and alcohol consumption

There is a generally held belief that alcohol should not be consumed while on a course of oral antibiotics. This advice is correct if a patient is taking metronidazole, cephamandole (may cause a disulfiram-like reaction), and possibly oral ketoconazole (may cause facial flushing). However there is no contraindication to the consumption of alcohol with other antibiotics.

Is it safe to drink booxe when taking antibiotics?

It's one of the great myths that mixing antibiotics with alcohol can seriously mess you up. While it's unwise to mix medicine with liquor, few drugs are affected by the action of pints. The way it works is this...

Those are quotes from the top 3 hits on google when searching for "antibiotics and alcohol". :o

  10. i have yet to meet any thai (from the working guys , poor uneducated etc) that DO NOT know to not drink; i.e. when i take them to a doctor and they are given meds, they always say , no drinking, chai mai?? .... its a given....

Uneducated sounds about right, with almost all penicilins you can have a have drink while taking them.. No problemo :D

Theres just a select 2 or 3 which can severly fuk u up :o

  11. After going to Bumrungrad and seeing the 3hr wait in the Ear.nose, throat center I went to the ER opposite to be told they wouldnt treat me as it wasnt an emergency and to go back to ENT center..

Fvcked that idea off pretty sharpish and went looking for a medical center, stumbled upon one soon enough and after a quick examination (which included the doctor asking me if I drank alcohol) I was told I had an ear infection.

5 minutes later I was walking out of the door with the usual 5 different sorts of pills + some ear drops.. 2 sorts of antibiotics / 2 sorts of pain killer, and some anti inflamotorys.

One of the antibiotics I have identifyed as Metromidazole, which is the absolute most dangerous antibiotic you can possibly take and then drink alcohol (and from what i've read online shouldnt have even been prescribed for an ear infection). The tw@t never even told me not to have a beer, never mind that the side effects if I did included: Flushing, fast heartbeats, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, loss of coordination, numbness and tingling, and seizures. :D

    Cheers Doc :o

  12. Maybe a alternative would be an English pirate version, using the localized serial.

    This works perfectly..

Also you can copy the entire first CD of the original to your HD and edit one of the .ini files on the installer to make the Thai CD install in English :o

  13. SMS, I'm in the UK and the 10 meg connection costs £35 per month. Every now and then I run a speed test and I've been getting anything between 4500 and 9800 kbps.

Thats very cheap for a business package :o
