  1. I, presently have a marriage visa but will soon need to do an extension. Due to medical expenses, I won't meet the 400,000 b. requirement at the time of application.

    1. Should I apply for a 60-day visa to visit my wife at immigration. Hopefully this will give enough time to season the money. Is this accepted by Immigration?

    2. Should I go to Savannakhet to apply for a single/multiple entry O marriage.

The thing that I am not sure about is " can I get an extension from a 60-day visa or I need to have a 90-day O marriage first before I can apply for an extension.

    Thanks.

  2. I am on a marriage extension and living at my spouse's address. I need a change of scenery and want to live in a beach town by renting a place. I will come back to my house just before doing the 90 day report and maybe go and live somewhere again. Will I have to report a change of address to the beach town Immigration office? When I return to my home, will I have to submit the TM 30? Thanks.

And where have you profited  ? How does it effect you ? Were they stealing from you in some way ?

Those people were still spending money here and their departure will not benefit the Thai economy in any way. Quite the opposite. They say they want tourists to return but the covid free ones they still have are being obliged to leave. Not very smart.

One day, the people with permanent resident visas ( the correct visa for living here full time ) will  probably say the same thing about you .....fiddling the system by extending ad nauseum.

    Well said. Thank you.

  4. I had a ME/marriage visa and I went to Sirinthorn/Ubon in late August to do the 90 day report which I didn't need to do per IO. I then asked about doing the 60 day visiting spouse. IO said I should do it right away and it would be stamped from the 27th.

Today the 24th. I went for the 60 day extension and it was stamped the 24th. I am glad I didn't do it then, in August, which would have affected my 400,000 seasoning.

I've been told to wait and see what happens by my local office which seems to hint at some leniency.

I was told almost the same thing. The IO said not to rush into doing the 60 day extension until the last two days before Sept. 26, but to start depositing the 400K into the bank account if I intend to get the marriage extension.

  6. This afternoon I went to Surinthorn/Ubon Immigration to do my 90-day report and since I have ME/marriage visa, I didn't need to do the report. I, then inquired about the 1-year extension based on marriage, I plan to use the monthly income and I have been transfering money into my Thai account for the past 6 months only but IO said the 40k should should have been done for a year unless I use the 400k which only requires two months seasoning. I told IO that I thought for the first extension, I only needed two months of 40k transfer. He said "No. They changed the requirement". I wonder if anyone who was trying to obtain a one year marriage extension for the first time was told of a 12 months transfer is needed.

Yea, supposedly back around mid 2019 when a LOT of people who were doing monthly transfers to their Bangkok Bank and always getting FTT/International Transfer coding, well, it changed to where they were no longer getting the FTT coding each and every time....some transfers were being coded as domestic vs international...like what has happened to you.   Quite a few ThaiVisa threads on this issues around mid 2019.

Apparently Transferwise was having  glitch/technical problem in using Bangkok Bank as there partner bank (well, that's what Transferwise said anyway) and was instead using one of their other partner banks of K-bank and TMB for the last leg of the transfer which resulted in domestic vs international coding.  But I figure it was simply Transferwise spreading transfers more evenly amount its three Thailand partner banks.  So, if during the luck of the transfer draw if Transferwise used Bangkok Bank as the partner bank your got FTT coding...if they used K-bank or TMB you didn't....I guess a person probably had a 1 in 3 chance at that time in getting FTT/International Transfer coding when sending to a Bangkok Bank recipient acct.

Of course this created a big problem for those folks using the monthly transfer method for immigration/extension of stay purposes where immigration wants to see foreign transfer coding.

Then with all the hate mail/calls/emails from customers to Transferwise about not getting FTT/International coding Transferwise came up with the Long Stay Thailand reason for transfer which supposedly will trigger their system to use Bangkok Bank as the partner bank to help ensure FTT/International Transfer coding for those transfers to Bangkok Bank accts.    Transferwise does not guarantee this will result in desired coding each time if they start having an issue in using Bangkok Bank as the partner bank because getting your transfer completed is their objective/top priority and not ensuring a desired coding.

And as mentioned earlier I would also recommend you send an email to Transferwise requesting they "tag" your Bangkok Bank recipients/transfers to always use Bangkok Bank as the partner bank since getting FTT/International Transfer coding is extremely important to you.  If they respond with a "well, just use the Long Stay Thailand reason for transfer and/or you can get an FET from the Thai bank", just respond back nicely that you understand that but getting a FET after the fact causes additional works/costs on your end....please, as requested, just tag my accts.   They will tag your acct.

If using the Long Stay Thailand coding "and" also getting your recipients tagged then you have done everything you can to ensure your transfers to Bangkok Bank recipients receiving the FTT/International Transfer coding.

This info is extremely helpful. I followed a bit when this issue came up last year. Since my first three transfers were coded FTT, I thought I was set but I was wrong. I had Kasikorn also but it showed up as "domestic" so I opened an account with Bkk Bank and now it happened again. Thank you again.

For reason for transfer did you select Long Stay Thailand?  I expect you didn't.

When selecting Long Stay Thailand for the transfer reason that is suppose to trigger TW using Bkk Bk for the partner bank which then ensures a transfer to a Bkk Bk acct/recipient receives FTT/International Transfer coding.

And I would also recommend you request TW "tag" your Bkk Bk accts/recipients to always use Bkk Bk as the partner bank. Maybe that's what you meant where you said TW reset your acct.

Always using the Long Stay Thailand reason and tagging you recipients has been extensively discussed in related/similar threads.  That's the most you can do to ensure transfers to a Bkk Bk acct receive FTT coding...and currently that seems to "almost" 100% guarantee desired coding.

But if TW encounters some kind of temporaty problem in using Bkk Bk they will use another partner bank (which means no FTT coding) as getting your transfer completed is their top priority.

Thank you Pib for the help. Reason for transfer, I usually used "monthly expenses". I didn't know that could make a difference. When TW said it reset my account, it didn't get into specifics. I will put reason for transfer as "Long Stay Thailand" from now on.

if you change the extension reason for staying say from retirement to marriage, then the new extension will start on the day you apply, and not the first day after your present extension expires,

is your extension based on a non imm 'O' or a 'O''A'

The past two years I was on Retirement extension. Does Immigration give a hard time for changing retirement extension to marriage one? Do we have to give a reason for the change? Thanks.

  10. Sorry for not making myself clear. Just right at the end of my retirement extension, I will leave Thailand to do some traveling then will later go to Savannakhet or Vietnam to apply for the multi-entry marriage visa. That was my main question for the time gap between the two.

If I chose to apply for a 60 days extension to visit my wife, should I apply a couple of days before the end of my retirement extension expires? Thanks UBJ.

  11. I have an account with Bangkok bank. The first three transfers from US via Transferwise were coded as FTT and I thought I would be OK for the rest of the year. I've just have my bank book updated and to my horror, the following six transfers were coded TRD as a domestic transfer. I've emailed TW to find out what has happened. TW said it reset my account to FTT but said it wouldn't guarantee that the problem wouldn't happen again. So much for comfort. I wonder what other members here on TV have done to solve this issue.

Sorry if I had missed previous thread on the subject.

  12. You might be right about the guy that accepted the applications at the window. He could be a new trainee because there was another guy standing next to him, not saying a thing, just observing. After handing him the application, he flipped through the pages and asked "this is for Retirement, right? I said yes" and then he said that I had to get it from the US, I thought too, that he had mistaken with the OA, so I said that I wanted the non-o based on retirement, not the OA.
Well, Ubonjoe, thanks for the help, much appreciated.
