  1. I saw the video and 'casually browsing' did not come to mind. I would have said 'casing the joint'.
  2. Yes, the traffic should move out of the way for emergency vehicles. On the other hand, I am reminded of the boy who cried wolf as ambulances should not be using their lights and sirens to make a noodle run.
  3. Years ago, we were up in Chiang Mai enjoying the sites. We had an early breakfast at one of the vendors on the side of the road and there happened to be a minibus driver at the same table. He said that he made the trip from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and then back to Chiang Mai almost every day during the high season.
  4. Before, these folks are sent packing; I suggest the Thai officials try to find any of their fellow citizens willingly to work these jobs. They maybe in for a disappointment at the number of applicants.
  5. Maybe it is just me, but the few times that I have purchased a new car; the thought of political uncertainty never crossed my mind.
  6. Throughout the years at the local temple, I have seen large packs of dogs that create havoc and a few that love to bite the locals. About once a year, these dogs are no longer seen around the temple. I am always told that the dogs ran away. Out in the boonies where I live, the local hospital sees around 25 dog bite cases. A week! And our village is no different than the other thousands throughout Thailand.
  7. While unfortunate what the women endured, this would have been a clue that something was amiss...
  8. I could be mistaken, but wasn’t this gentleman complaining in February about the health officials inspecting a cannabis shop in his hotel in Bangkok?
  9. Almost every day, I see a motorcyclist zipping down the road looking at their phone and not wearing a helmet. But, they have a face mask on for protection....
  10. I decided to let a few plants grow naturally, just to see what would happen. The seeds were nothing exotic. Just typical Thai strains. Jan 2023.mp4
  11. What is truly frightening is that there is a good chance that most of these men are driving on public roads.
  12. During the 2011 floods this was a common practice in the Bangkok neighborhood that I lived in. When I asked why, it was explained this way. If the sewer drains become overcome the water will often backup into people's houses. By blocking the drain, it forces the water elsewhere where it becomes someone else's problem. As Trink would have wrote, TIT.
  13. It's hard to keep up with today's ever changing world. It looks like I need to drag out the dictionary and look up the word 'good'.
  14. Oddly enough, each suggestion results in putting money in the medical community's pocket.
  15. In her younger days, my wife would often attend various demonstrations in Bangkok and sometimes I tagged along just to take a few photos. The truth is that even after living here for over 20 years, I still don’t understand Thai politics nor do I want to. My wife says it is because my brain is lazy and she may have a point. We were at one such event where several celebrities were on stage with microphone in hand, giving their opinion about some matter while the crowd gathered around. Next thing I knew my wife was tugging on my arm saying “They want you to go on stage.” My initial thought was cool. That would make a great shot of the audience. Luckily, the next thought was that it would be stupid and I waved my hands no. If I had gone on stage half of the Thai population might have cheered. The other 50% not so much. And there is a good chance that someone in that latter group would have the power to put me on an airplane leaving Thailand. Thais only tolerate so much from their guests…
  16. The 'Up to You' philosophy often comes with consequences. Regardless, good job by the rescue team and hopefully the tourist will mend soon.
  17. That must be true. Anymore when I need to visit a government office, most of the workers seem to be working electronically on their phones.
  18. A few years back during the rainy season, I gave some thought to volunteer for a NGO here in Thailand; but first decided to ask Mr. Google about these organizations. Come to find out there are many which are admirable and others not so much. My research shows that there have been several investigations that link this organization with corrupt foreign government officials along with a history of fabricating rescues and statistics. No doubt all of the above information is false and the $44 million that O.U.R. raised in 2021 went to worthy projects.
  19. It must be me. I read the article and knew every word. I just didn’t understand what I read.
  20. I also received my 'dead or alive' letter and it got me to thinking. What if I had a stroke and was unable to sign my name? Now I'm certain that there is a myriad of rules and regulations to follow concerning this possible scenario, but it would be a lot easier just for the wife to make an X and sign as a witness. I suppose she could also fake my signature and send the yearly forms back. I'd be willingly to bet that there are widows somewhere in deepest, darkest Thailand that have been doing this for years. Surely, the US pencil pushers have means to prevent this, but I have no idea.
  21. First off, let me say that I ain't a professional videographer. Secondly, even though I have lived here since '99; I now know less about Thailand than my first week here. Anyway, here you go. Mysteries of Thailand
  22. I would recommend the California or Oregon markets. Both of these states already seem to favor nuts and fried free-range, organic, gluten free, humanely killed grasshopper snacks would fit right in.
