Correct etiquette is to not talk to people you don't know until  properly introduced by a mutual friend or family member. Have you never read Pride and Prejudice?

Just because you are lonely is no excuse to show bad manners.

And to only do it to those you feel share your racial background is despicable.

    According to who?

  3. Has anyone seen what the penalities are for providing false, or maybe even incomplete, information in the social media section? I have a bunch of email accounts currently in use at various times for various reasons. What if I left a few out?

P.S I read somewhere the USA is doing this now as well.

The Social media section says Optional.

Which is a good thing as I have more than 100 email accounts, a dozen or more Facebook accounts, numerous twitter, pinterest and instagram accounts etc

Which is probably the reason the form came into existence in the first place.

Indulge me...why do have more than 100 email accounts and more than a dozen facebook accounts?

I have a work email and two personal emails....why more than a hundred?

  4. I get a business visa on arrival regularly, takes a bit of paperwork 50 USD in US dollars. Have a look online about visa on arrival for tourists. Same price I believe - check the Myanmar embassy website Bangkok - all the details are there. From memory you can get it online as well so you don't have the hassle at the airport when you arrive.

  5. Complain about vegetables and post a pic of fruit?

From your comment I see you either have poor eyesight or are not familiar with how Thai tomatoes look... They do not look like the European species.

Tomatoes for somtam...In general I have a feeling that all veggies and fruits are full of nitrates same as in China. Hardly understand what to eat here - palm oil everywhere, veggies are nitrated or GMO, meat is cancerogenic, fish is full of mercury, shrips are on antibiotics, chicken on hormones, water is polluted, beer is crap

In general i have a feeling that you must be hungry and thirsty continuously. You won't eat veggies, meat or fish....what does that leave? Or more to the point when do you leave?

  6. I once tried to turn my car around on the drive of an Army base in Sattahip. I was still outside.I didnt need to enter the base as the drive outside was wide enough to spin around in.The girl i was with explained that all we wanted to do was turn. All of a sudden there was 6 soldiers outside with rifles. The one who was in charge said that no foreigner was allowed anywhere near a military base.probably worried in case i saw how weak they were.

6 rifles and you thought they were weak??

    Balls of steel Dave.

  7. Way ahead of you R123...left Thailand a couple of years back...best Fort decision I could have made...life is good again...

So please stop posting your biased non nonsensical posts.

This is ThaiVisa Forum....... understand now? For the people who do or may live here in the future...not for the losers who couldn't make it.

Glad life is good for you again,

  8. The rules are no secret; foreigners are not allowed on Thai military facilities.

    Welcome to Thailand.

Wow that's strange becaise 2 years ago I worked on a Thai Army base in Bang su for 3 years. Guys if you don't know what the true information is, please refrain from posting. For the life of me, I don't understand why foreigners in Thailand have the need to argue about Thailand on a forum. Most of the members of Thai Visa live in Thailand so if you don't like the way it is, there are plenty of other countries to go. Just sayin!

I would respectively suggest most Thai Visa Forum members don't live in Thailand and continue to perpetuate the urban myths that have been told.

  9. Jeeez...is tipping 20 or 40 or a 100 baht going to make much difference to your 3000 baht night out?

Not for me...but it could make a significant difference to the person I gave it to....in the hand.

  10. Ah Yes on tipping here in LOS.These local people in the service industry have an income of very little and most depend on tips to make a difference. Usually if you are American or Canadian German,Scandinavian and several other Europeans a tip of 10 to 20 % is made .The Japanese about 5 to 10 % ,English and Chinese it is ZERO and if a Scotsman you might ask for a reduction in the bin.

ln all my travels around this world(been to every continent except Antarctica & South America), l have NEVER met a mean Scotsman.

l guess you were kidding & its accepted that Scots are like their stereotype, we & some Scots even joke about it.

l have met good & bad Scots, but none that l remember as mean.

Maybe they try harder as they know what people think.

Some of the meanest s.o.bs are my fellow Ozzies.

No worries mate...I'd never tip a Scot...skirt or no skirt!!! Goodonya mate!!

  11. Difficulty in making good friends once married in Thailand. And I make friends easily.

Found most of my wife's friends in Bk can be pretty fake and pretentious and I don't seem to have much in common with other expats I meet; although I met a v nice couple through the TV motor forums recently!

Not sure if anyone else had this problem when they moved over or if my age is a factor (in my 40s now).

That's my only real gripe so far. I love the food, the weather, convenient and affordable transportation, the cheap and brilliant dentist I found, discovering new parts of Thailand and that all those amazing bordering countries are so close.

Funny how bordering countries are so close.

  12. Exactly!

wife votes in a place where she is not "registered" and is given a ballot for the place where she is registered. Sounds complicated but no problem for Thai people who understand their system.

Old feudal system to keep the privileged in power.

In Australia it is called absentee voting, i.e. voting when you are away from your district at election time. Hardly an old feudal system. And quite convenient for some.

I will be voting via a postal vote from Myanmar in the upcoming Oz election.

  13. Never forget the first rule of farming.....grow to feed the family first and sell the excess.

The western farmers forgot this simple rule and fell into the trap of mono culture and are subject to the vagaries of market prices for their one and only prod

You sound like a person who is well educated and has a plan for the future.

Have you thought about niche marketing/growing?

Where I am (Surin province) it is difficult to buy a decent sized potato. I guess there are many more foreigners who have the same issue. We eat potatoes like Asians eat rice.

    Decent tomatoes...big fat juicy ones.

    Could be a possibility there?

Another thing could be aquaponics....bit like hydroponics ,,,, bit different...google it.

    Intensively farmed fish and vegetables.

Good luck and chok dee...keep us up to date on your progress.

  14. Why farang come Thailand and talk for farangs on internet and always say Thai no good ?....

Thailand not same same farangland, if come Thailand and say Thai no good...why not stay in farangland, but farang come Thailand for lady and get drunk for beer

By the way the OP didn't insult Thailand in any way. He was just asking some very valid questions regarding road safety and the mentality of people here. Common Sense really...

The OP is hiding behind the facade of vehicular safety, but his motive is about Thai-bashing. That's obvious.

If you want to talk common sense, explain to me why so many farangs don't exercise, or eat unhealthy foods, or drink to excess, or sunbathe, or smoke, or yes, ride on a motorbike without a helmet...the list is endless. Don't be so self-righteous.

or wipe their arse with paper...disgusting and filthy

  15. When I went through this, in 2004, I was told to go the fiance visa route. But from what I hear, the marriage visa is faster now. Official marriage here.

What they are worried about is she'll go there as a tourist, get married and stay. That, in reality, is her immigrating to the US. Not going as a tourist, then going back in a few months. They don't like that. And from what I've read, if you do get married in the US and try to convert her visa, it's really hard. Because you lied to them.

This site is all you need. It's got everything to help you through the process. A lot of work on your end, but it's a great site.

    http://www.visajourney.com/

A little off topic but may be relevant.

I asked the visa agent in Oz if it would be easier and faster if we got married and then applied for a partner visa to Oz. His reply was no go for the fiancee vise. The explanation was that for the marriage visa you had to show a continuous and ongoing relationship which could be difficult with her in Thai and me in Oz even though we were pretty much living together continuously on tourist visas. The fiancee visa is much easier but involved, a real lot, a lot of paperwork and took ten months to be granted.
