During my recent hunt for San Mig Zero I came across an absolute gem of a store selling all kinds of expat foods. Branston Pickle, soups, a freezer full of pies, pasties etc.
It is run by an affable chap, named Alan (I think) with whom I skulled a few of his craft beers.
It's tucked away in ChayangKun 42/2. As a hermit in Warin I'd never discovered it before, however I'll be a regular visitor - and no; I'm not the owner!!
PS: I think he's shut on Saturdays
Enjoy!!
Yes, he is Alan and yes, he closes on Saturdays. Been a regular customer (and tea drinker there) for years

For a Non O visa (over age 50, informally "retirement") you must show proof of funds, but it is acceptable for the money to be in a bank account outside Thailand. If the bank statement is not in English or Thai, a translation will be needed.
Thanks for info and sorry to be pedantic, but what amount do they want to see in my UK bank and for how long? I get a second pension just before Xmas, that will give me +65k monthly total income but the visa will be required 2 months before that starts (30th Sept). I do have funds 'sitting' in my UK account.
I'm 66 next birthday and had a 'B' visa for the last 11 years.

Yes as stated by liquorice no funds need to be shown at Savannakhet for the annual non o marriage/dependant.
Can you get a retirement visa there, without funds in a Thai bank too? If so what do you need to provide to Laos consulate, please?

Never was too impressed by that IO. Glad to get out and use one that is more friendly/helpful

I don't understand how San Miguel Zero can be 3% abv. I thought low alcohol or zero alcohol drinks had to be under 1% abv. ????
Maybe its zero calories?

Morning folks
Any ideas where in Ubon I can acquire San Mig ZERO by the case.
I can only find outlets in town, ie Lotus's and Big C, with only a few bottles.
Many thanks
Makro?

It's not just the big ones that can give a hefty bite. Got bitten twice once and it took a good 7 hours for the pain to subside!
Not recommended!!!!!!!

For an old guy, Tawandeang might be too loud, with flashing laser lights too. I believe what you want, you will not find in Surin. Sure, there are some busy Thai music bars but the days of Gogo bars, are long gone. I had a pub-crawl around there 10days ago.
Take him to Pattaya!

Did you manage to get insurance when you went?

Not quite sure what you are driving but Google Maps suggests 2 hours 40 minutes by car.
I doubt that it can be done in under 2 hours and, as I recall, certainly not in a private car across the border. Not sure if that is possible but you would not get insurance for the trip.
Many reliable taxis available - PM me if you are unable to find one yourself, I have contact details for a guy who I have used 20+ times.
Agree with your suggestions except Google Maps timing, after doing it maybe 7 times from CC.

Its very easy when on your own motorbike. Ive done it and intend to do it again later this year. Living in or around Surin I found Chong Chom border to be very easy. Times when I didn't use my motorbike, I always parked-up my car at the border and got a taxi to SR/Ankor as its only about 1/ 1.5 hrs drive. Don't forget to get a re-entry stamp before you go!!!!!

Did you read the OP's comment below?
Sangkha is approx 160kms from Ubon. Hardly " not too far".
One road all the way (Highway 24). Sometimes it's good to be not too near to the outlaws!

We do visit the area often as my wife's family lives some 12 kilometers from Sangkha, however at 78 years old I find the drive somewhat tedious. And to get said family to do some searching is indeed a challenging task, great folk, but to get them to ask questions and provide logical answers is as I am sure many of us know an interesting past time. Perhaps time to spend time with family and do our own research, Tried researching property sourcing companies in Surin, sad to say results were about as useful as a chocolate fireguard, However, DILLIGAD many thanks for your comment and getting me to throw off my lethargic shirt and kick start the ol d grey matter,
Have you considered somewhere around Ubon, as that's not too far from Sangkha and lots more amenities than other alternatives? They even have condo's that a foreigner can buy/own outright.

There was real-estate companies in Surin but unsure they still exist. Suggest you tour the area to find where you would like to live, then pop into the local Mom-n-pop shops, who usually seem to know whats going on in their area. May be better to get a Thai to do the enquiring as sometimes the infamous "farang prices" come to play.

Glad the kids OK. I know a lot of people living on less than 17k a month, so wonder if the addiction that you mentioned, is the root cause of the problem?
Its a common problem in Isaan. I used to live in a village near to the Surin to Prasat (Chon Chom) road and remember seeing all the silver minibuses shipping Thais to the casino's 24/7.
