Thanks for the replies so far. I have a thai drivers license, I have gear. I'm really just looking for 2 big bikes to rent in Khon Kaen/Udon/Ubon or there about. I have about 1 week, and I'd rather do the long distance by flight/bus and do shorter drives around the region than spending at least 2 out of the 7 days hammering down the highway from the north to the east and back. But yeah, gotta rethink the whole plan if there is no big bike. Either accept a PCX or Aerox or just bin the whole Isaan plan and stay more in the north, it's just I've seen most of the north was looking for a change of scenery.
Not aware of anywhere in Ubon for what you need.

During the 2011 & 2019 floods, were the main roads flooded and unpassable??? I don't seem to remember they were. So, in all this time, what has improved???

Think the news post should have said " will not be able to install" instead of "will not install" as it was not the Thai Navy's decision.

Actually, the Facebook page I was reading had 4 guys saying they were waiting for an email. One even said he can log in but his account says "email sent" but he has not received any emails.
Your comment is therefore inane to the situation.
You're clearly a lot closer to the situation than me. What could I possibly know, as I am only the person approving all applications and there are none outstanding.

The only member (I know of) who lives in that area is @khwaibah
Quite correct and he's a daily contributor to a(nother) local forum that covers Surin for farangs.

There is nothing in the news story that suggests they vould not swim.
A very high percentage of kids (& adults) in Isaan cannot swim. When I lived in a small Isaan village, there was (unfortunately) a number of similar incidents

Bar stool banter. Heard similar stories about ex-Special Forces/SEALS/ Vietnam vets from our friends across the pond.

Your 76 on a OA (Retirement) visa and you expect to be able to work legally. If your retired, you will not get a Work Permit. End Of!

Why do you ask?
Because I believe there is very little of interest to most people there (other than the grave of Pol Pot) and was concerned that the OP may have the wrong idea of the place.

I have known Prakhonchai Nick for decades and only heard good reports of his service. If you look up 'Thai widows and expats' , I believe you will find him.

Thank you guys.
You all have given me helpful comments and advice.
I will go direct to Siem Reap and park at border.
On the return, it will be good to see a bit of Surin.
Looking forward to it.
Thank you everybody.
If you want some delicious western food in Surin, I recommend Starbeams or 214Diner.

I saw that happen once first-hand where wires came down and roped a young woman on a motorbike to the ground. Not seriously injured.
It was extremely windy that day so motorbike riders of that should take note.

I suspect (without any hard evidence) that a lot like this is going on. And a lot of people know about it, including the schools and including the parents. And most of them let it happen.
Something very much like this happened to a teacher, where I work (in Isaan) and the guy was sacked, it was never spoke about again, so maybe pushing the problem elsewhere.

Correct, I knew him and after 'leaving' employment, he was teaching online using the Covid visa route a few times until that option finished.
I hear Ireland is nice this time of year!!!!!!
