  1. I am being paid to undertake speaking classes(meeting) for Teachers/Principals in the Uni where I work, so thinks are changing slowly.

Even some 'kids in the village' go to Uni and enjoy studying English but then again, some are happy Buffalo whispering too!

  2. The reason I raised the subject was

I have just returned from a 4,000 km motor bike trip (23 days) touring in a rough circle surin - Petchaboon - Tak -mea hong son - Chang mai - nong khai - Ubon- Surin . All in all 15 different provinces without any hassle off the plod at all,I was stopped only twice the first time on the 24 an hour into my trip (surin), and the second time on my last day just 5 km into surin Provence

I live on the main sang kha - surin road and now I would bet my pension on seeing at least one police check every single day somewhere along the road, if you are going into surin city probably 2 , it never used to be as bad,and other provinces don't seem to have the same hassle

Sounds like its time you moved on, then!

  3. People do look at our house and land/equipment and assume that I'm a "rich guy", but I've built what we have up over the years when working offshore, so I'm asset rich and cash poor at the moment. ( I'm finally back to work next week to start solving that problem)

I think you may find that they think you have given everything to your wife and grow additional funds off a magical 'golden tree' in your garden so they will ask you for long-term loans that translate into Thai as the word 'gift.'

Sorry for sounding so sceptical as you are clearly one of the 'good guys' and I take my hat off to you.

    Good luck

  4. I put one of ours up on jacks while we are away. We use it for three months in the year. I have often had the same thoughts. The financial loss is too much. I will continue doing this. Get a full service on it before we use it.

You also have to consider you have to continue paying the class 1 insurance.

plus road tax fees will be backdated from when it was last taxed too.

  5. Have you been to any of the "Caravans"? Mostly smaller bikes but good fun, and mostly a pretty serious bunch of fairly younger motorbike fans modifying their Honda C's and some Yamaha SR's.

Yes and they are (unfortunetly) usually the events involving violence that would hardly ever been seen at a big bike event.

  6. Not saying it's the same every where but the stats in my little world are out of 6 Thai girls I know liveing in Nottingham with there farang husbands only one marriage failed of the 50 or more farang I've got to know over the last 35 years liveing in surin only 3 have lasted more than 4 years

Mine lasted 5, steve (just) so add that to your Surin figures! cheesy.gif

BTW: Isaan USAsean's periods mean 'full stops' me thunkz!

  7. It never fails to amaze me how these big events are so hard to find information on. 85 views no doubt many are bikers yet no one can shred any light on the subject ? coffee1.gif

Very true and when are they going to realise that a week has got 7 days in it???

  8. We should have our shop open the start of April.

Not sure on rentals just yet, will know more in the coming month.

For now we have just been riding with people at already own bikes, but looking to add more fresh faces.

When all is up and running I will supply map and contact info. 2-3 weeks.

    Thanks for your interest

    Be in touch soon

Good luck with your project in Sisaket. Will your vehicles be taxed/registered and insured for road use because I hardly ever see ATV's with a plate on???????

  9. Language House (nr Sisaket)

The Last Resort (direlict in Surin, (Quite appropriate))

What I find even more strange and (sorry to say) stupid is to have a name plaque on your house telling the world (and possibly robbers) where you live. VERY TACKY AND CHAV LIKE imho!

Back home it was quite normal to have a name plate, as a former part time mailman i really liked it made the job easier.

I wanted to call our house "Bell's end" but she wouldn't have it....not a bit of it!!!

Dont miss of the 's' cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

  11. I used to trust strangers more than my wife. Now she is my ex-wife! Thank fk! thumbsup.gif

Unfortunetly death doesn't have quite the impact here in Thailand dingdongrb. To me it seems quite an UN emotional affair and it is kept quiet. Kids/teenagers die on the roads on a daily basis and after a few days, its forgotten about(it seems).

Many people 'go to work in BKK' and I often wonder if that is an euphomism for other activity (Pattaya/Phuket bars or been done away with in a rice field somewhere?) Just a hunch, thats all, after living here full time for a while.
