Sorry Dave but you cannot. Visas  never extended.

Do yo mean you will apply for an extension of your permission to stay ?

Take a look at my previous post(s) and post  No.6

I dunno if you think you are being helpful but you are not;  I've extended my visa for the last 10 years, so I know for a fact you can extend them.

People are going to read your stuff and think they are not able to get any extension and it's not true.

  2. I talked to immigration in Bangkok and it turns out that I don't need to apply for a Visa in Singapore.

They said I can just leave on my US passport, then return and get visa-on-arrival on the UK passport.

Then I go to immigration and get my tourist visa on arrival changed to a non-immigrant O with 3 months validity...after that I can extend the 3 month visa for 1 year and I'm back to where I am now but on a different passport.

At least this cuts out the part of applying for a visa at Singapore embassy.

  3. I've been in Thailand on a marriage visa for over 10 years and have continually renewed in my US passport each year.

However for various reasons I am considering renouncing my US citizenship as I also am a UK citizen.  Obviously to do this I've got to make sure nothing in tied to my US identity.

What would be the simplest way to get my marriage visa switched in my UK passport instead of my US passport?

    I'm thinking:

    1) Apply online for Type-O 3month marriage visa at the Singapore Thai embassy

    2) Leave Thai on US passport (getting a re-entered permit just in case)

    3) Fly to Singapore and pick up my visa in UK passport

    4) Re-enter Thailand on UK passport with 3 month visa

    5) Go to renew for 1 year visa in UK passport.

Does this sound like it would work?  And I figure if something goes balls up I can just exit and re-enter on my US passport and continue with my current visa.

  6. I just called Bangkok Bank's CS number, 1333, and after being put on hold "forever", I got through. According to them, the Banks will only be closed on Monday and will be open on Tuesday. The branches in the malls will not close and will have normal hours on all days. Should have known better and called them in the first place rather than getting an "opinion" poll here!

There's no need to adopt that attitude. People were trying to help you.

Sorry I offended you, but I find that its best to remain silent if you don't really know the answer. Just read my motto. Butr if everybody did that here TV would go "tits up"!

Hm...2 out of 3 of the posts I would consider as "Helpful". How would you expect anyone to "really know" whether every bank in Thailand is open or closed on Tuesday?

I guess Thaivisa is not for you, be sure to ask for a refund on the way out.

  7. Bangkok Bank does not do this - not as far as I'm aware anyway.

    http://www.bangkokbank.com/BangkokBank/WebServices/HelpCenter/Pages/FeeTable.aspx

If a savings account has been inactive for more than one year and the account balance is less than 2,000Bt. (Please note: When the balance is at zero, your account will be automatically closed)

    50Bt

If a savings account is automatically transferring funds into a current account, but has a balance of less than 10,000Bt

    50Bt

If the monthly current account balance is less than 1,000Bt

    100Bt

  8. I randomly get an email today informing me that Godaddy has charged me a $20 "Administrative Fee"....huh...

Turns out someone contacted them and claimed my WHOIS info was invalid (information was totally valid), and because of this Godaddy has:

    1) Charged me $20 for the trouble

    2) Sent me an email that they will cancel my domain in 5 days if I don't correct, the already correct, WHOIS info

So it appears to be that if you want to steal a domain you can just email Godaddy, and hope the owner doesn't update the WHOIS in a week, then the domain gets cancel and you buy it.

Needless to say i transferred my domains over to my namecheap account immediately.

  9. It appears a new script has been installed that loads the avatars as you scroll down the page.

I find this feature really annoying. I never noticed a problem with avatars before, they would always load naturally in the browser....now everytime I scroll any page I have to see little white avatar boxes loading.

Anyone else vote to remove this script?

  10. with a fairly respectable balance

I would not have known and the balance eventually would have become zero.

These statements seem to contradict each other.

If your balance is low enough that 50 baht per month fees can bring your balance to zero then you are probably below the minimum balance and all Thai bank charge a fee for this (so that they can close out inactive accounts with only a few baht in them)

Generally the balance has to be above 2000-5000 (depending on the bank/account type) or they start charging low balance fees

  11. Do you mean that the company is interested in buying products from your wife (if so why would you be showing them anything other than products to start with?)

Or do you mean the company is interested in buying your wife's company as a whole?

If you're wife already "sells stuff on Facebook, and does reasonably well." then she must have the products listed somewhere on a facebook page? Why not just start out by sending them a link to the page...then maybe they'll want to see some samples...talk about available qualities etc...

If you want to build a new website, or print catalogs/brochures etc...I would say this should be a business decision based on the overall direction that you want to take the business, as opposed to doing it to try and impress a single potential customer.

  12. It reached the bottom for now. Good time to buy I'd say. It's better than any New Market in the 90's. Fantastic unpredictable ups and downs. Really fun to watch and play. Just don't use anything other than gambling money.

I don't think it's reached the bottom yet.

IMHO it won't bottom out until it reaches $35-$50 range. I'd wait for it to stabilize within a $10 range for 3 or 4 months before calling the bottom and buying in. The current trend is almost a mirror image of 2011.

  13. And as expected the police start investigating if the meter worked properly or if coffee was actually thrown etc.

An investigation by a real police force would skip all that and get to the point. The driver attacked an unarmed man with a sword and killed him. What happened prior to that is completely irrelevant!

Yes of course, 'real' police would show up and say "yup, dead guy, go directly to jail"

  14. I have opened up a company bank account with Kasikorn and now have access to their K-BizNet online system.

But I was a bit surprised to find it actually appears to have less features than one would expect with even a personal online banking system.

I'd like to know if anyone else is using K-BizNet and I'm just missing something, or are there any other banks with better online business banking systems.

The account needs to be used to transfer amounts to various other accounts (inter-bank), but the trouble with K-BizNet is:

    1) You have to login to 2 different accounts, firstly an admin account to add the payee, and secondly a signatory account to actually make the transfer

    2) The page for adding payee accounts appears to be broken (I find corroboration for this here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/596365-kasikorn-bank-grrrrr/?p=6559378)

    3) They charge 120THB per transfer + 100THB to the payee (normally in my experience inter-bank transfers should cost 25THB for up to 25K and 35THB for up to 50K)...220THB is a total rip off

    4) Even the "Urgent" transfers are not instant and can take up to 24hours (normally in my experience with personal banking you can make instant inter-bank transfers at the above mentioned fees)

    5) Their transfer system is only available during business hours (again in my experience normally online transfers are available 24/7)

Am I just missing something, or can someone please recommend a more advanced business banking system.

  15. So you started a business only 6 months ago, and since you are posting this now, we have to assume you were trying to get out of the lease around 3 months after signing? And then pissing and moaning that they wouldn't let you out of a *assuming* 2 year lease after only 3 months?

And in those 3 months you some how managed to increase the value of the business and the "customer base"?

And this somehow involves your Thai wife according to the post title? If the business is your wife's business why did you need to close it after a few months when you got sick?

In short your advice is to somehow sign commercial leases and convince the landlord to write into the contract that you can bugger off after a few months?

  16. Installed Windows 8, tested it for a few days, was not impressed and switched back to Windows 7. Unless you are using a touchscreen I don't really see the advantage to windows 8.

My biggest annoyance with windows 8 is the missing start menu...you have to actually install a 3rd party bulkware program just to get a start menu... does 8.1 have a start menu yet?
