I always tell people I'm from Canada. Works pretty well most of them time. Sometimes they'll get suspicious and start asking me questions about Canada I don't know. Or they'll tell my my accent is definitely not Canadian.

Lots of farang are poorer than Thais. I don't know why they should pay more.

50k/month minimum. You'll need to shell out at least 20k to the wife each month just to make her happy. If you give your wife less than that you're asking for a divorce imho. Anything left over is yours to keep.

I've always wondered where the clunkers were in Thailand(maybe they throw them in the scrap once they get old?). I can find much cheaper cars in the states. Cars are a ripoff here. Stick with the motorbikes.

I live in central Pattaya and hate the traffic and tourist congestion here(I think it gets worse every year). I've considered moving out somewhere in E. Pattaya or S. Jomtien but the location here can't be beat. If I want to visit a bar or Walking Street it's just a couple minutes by foot.

Because their economy is free(low regulation and taxes). Unlike certain farang countries where everything is litigated out of existence and the unemployed get paid to live off the dole at taxpayers expense.

What a silly conversation. Its about one tenth to one quarter in Thailand vs the west.
Prices in the USA are cheaper for the quality you get. Houses are vastly cheaper. Cars are much cheaper. Electronics are much cheaper.
Restaurants are cheaper in Thailand but look what you get. It's typically just a tiny portion of rice, meat, and veggies. I think even clothes are cheaper in the USA.

Thailand is just not cheap anymore. Accommodation? It's only cheap because it's low quality and/or really small. Nothing is cheap here anymore.
Also, I just checked expatistan & numbeo and the costs are about the same now. The days of cheap Thailand are finished. This place is downright expensive.

It's not just the cost of living it's the cost of women. These days 40k a month just doesn't cut it. They want big money guys. The women in a poorer country should, in theory, stick around longer. Unfortunately, in Thailand they won't stick around very long with 40k a month(hell, even 65k isn't even enough). The times they are a changing..
Are these bkk prices or somewhere else? What amount appeases the BG these days?

Nope. Just regular Thai women. I think they want a 30k a month allowance plus a house and car.

Have you considered a tent on the beach? Perhaps you really shouldn't be here? Go the the CM forum and there is a similar character looking for free internet with cheapest coffee. Methinks they will crackdown on this some day as pushing the envelope too far.
2k is actually NORMAL here for Thais. Now if I had said I wanted 4 farang guys to share a 2k a month room you'd be right. But I didn't.
And I actually spend less than 10% of my budget on rent so it's not like I'm on the ropes here financially.
