ATM has nothing to do with it. ATM has no effect on the exchange rate you receive(unless you choose the option of letting them convert for you).

ATM makes one charge of 200 to 220 baht). The rest is charged by your bank.

For those whose bank does not charge, they pay only the ATM fee. Some people avoid even the ATM fee by taking a cash advance over a bank counter.

Ok either way I always saw that using ATM was a lot more expensive a few years back but now its actually cheaper than using transferwise. So then why would anyone use transferwise?

  2. I just pulled out using my USA TDameritrade debit card recently and saw that it only charged for 400 baht to take out 20,000 (ATM 200 baht fee and exchange rate). I also tried it previously with 12,000 baht and it only charged me 200. This is actually on par or less fees than using transferwise. Am I missing something?

I remember long time ago, they used to trick people into using the thai banks conversion rate and the fees and rates were A LOT higher.

Did this change? And is it now on par with using transferwise?

  3. Thanks for the clarification. Many people have been saying you cant get an extension on a border run 30 day visa.

He was saying you cannot get a 30 day extension at the border.

You can get a 30 day extension at an immigration office.

Yes I meant thank you all for the clarification. I was trying to avoid going for another border run (for another 30 day visa) and was asking if I can get an extension instead at Chaeng Wattana

  4. Visa Exempt Entry, Yes. Costs 1,900 baht from an immigration office.

    Visa On Arrival, No.

Coudl you tell me if I havea visa on arrival or visa exempt entry? is it because of a land crossing instead of fly in?

90 days ago. I arrived from Hong Kong and got a 30 day tourist visa, then I 30 day extended. After that expired I went to cambodia and came back with a land crossing 30 day visa.

If you were given 30 days when crossing by land it was a visa exempt entry, and you can extend it by 30 days at immigration.

Ok thank you for that answer.

My visa expired saturday the 18th. Are there any stories of them denying an extension for 3 days overstay?

  6. Ban Laem is a good crossing. It is bit further from Bangkok but the time can be made up by the time saved by doing the crossing quicker.

If not doing it yourself I can recommend this company. http://www.thaivisaservice.com/

thanks for that link. althought this info on their site alarmed me:

    • Real Tourist arriving via an international airport will still obtain a 30 day stay, however travelers using OUT/IN method to extend stay will be denied entry. Decision is at the discretion of the Immigration Officer.
