  1. 555. What a joke. Unless you happen to be Thai or have citizenship this has nothing to do with you. Bringing your HOA attitudes from wherever you came doesn't apply. You are all temporary visitors. This is not your country. These dogs have a right to exist in their own country. It's not up to you to decide whether they should be killed or not. You choose to come here - so adapt. Or leave. It's a simple as that. Don't start slinging your western values around. This isn't a western country. Those values don't apply. Only the Thai Government has the right to intercede. And if they don't, well then that's it. As has been said before - you can tell the quality of a person by the way they interact with animals.
  2. Our species is not the most important. All species that inhabit the planet have importance.
  3. I currently work in the Philippines but live in Thailand. 2 months there then 2 months here. Worked in Asia in general for 30 years, Thailand for 13 years. When I am in the Philippines I live in a purpose built factory managers house. This is in a Freeport zone. The house is OK but build quality is not particularly good. Same issues as Thailand, damp rising in the walls, things breaking or never finished. Food is cooked by two women hired for the job. I constantly have stomach problems. The food is not good. Diabetes is rampant. You will see many dialysis signs as you travel around. There are guards on everything. Fact - these private guards if you total all of them together actually outnumber the total number of soldiers in the Philippine army. You do get used to them eventually but you have to ask yourself what are we dealing with here that needs this level of survelance. All the workers in my factory are inspected in and out daily - no exceptions. Is it more dangerous - I don't know. Both Thailand and the Philippines can get you into trouble if you go looking for it. I find the Filipinos to be more engaging and friendly. I go hiking on my days off. I go alone into remote jungle. No matter where you go you will find a squat with dirt poor people living in it - even huge distances inside the jungle. They are normally friendly but I think that will also depend on how you greet them. I have never had a problem. Manilla has only one district that looks affluent - the financial district. All the rest of Manilla is of a lower quality compared say to Bangkok. The Philippines is made up of several thousand islands. The law of averages says there has to be many places of beauty to stay. Some of those places will be tourist traps. I have always thought that if enough time was given to looking then I'm sure a good location could be found. My feeling is you need to accept that you will have to cook for yourself if for no other reason than your health. To put it simply, Philippine food is bad. Some people may accept it but you will pay a price in the long run. Price wise it is probably similar to both countries - some things are cheaper, some more expensive. Put together it could be a wash. It would also depend on where you were wanting to live in each country. A remote village in either is going to be cheapest. A tourist bar area in either is going to bring it's own prices and rip off's. If you have been in Asia for any length of time then you will have dealt with corruption. No different in the Philippines. If your looking for the pot smoking life then don't go to the Philippines - penalties are severe. At the end of the day it depends on what you will accept. The Philippines will be a step down from Thailand. How much of a steep will depend on how much research you are prepared to do. I would tend to agree with those looking for a female partner that the Filipinos are more engaging. But remember, they are doing this in the hope you will support their family. If you haven't been there then you will be surprised at the level of poverty that exists. It's quite bad and they are all looking for a way to get out of it. If you are religious then you will have plenty of places to go on Sunday, if not then find a hobby ! Some countries have pension parity with the Philippines which Thailand doesn't so this can be a bonus. As has already been said above - do your own research. You must visit for at least 6 months to get a true feeling for the Philippines.
  4. <deleted> - come on - one look at the posed photos tells you all you need to know about this jumped up spoiled pxxxk
  5. Tin bath on the back of the kitchen door. Friday night - water boiled in a kettle on the fire. Add cold water from the tap. 3 inches of water, hardly enough to get past your ankles. Father first then mother. My brother and I last ! Still remember one time my brother taking a dump in the bath 555 ! He must have been about 1 year old at the time, I was 3.
  6. The bar in Nana was called the "Mermarium". I loved that place - spent hours in there throwing coins into the tanks 555 !
  7. I've done this with 2 Boxers. I'm guessing but a Terrier would probably have an average lifespan of 15 years so your dog is not "old" yet. Here are some points - Only certain airlines will take dogs. You will need to apply for a dog import license. You can download all details online. Dog must be chipped and have vaccinations plus paperwork to support this. Dog has to travel in a crate with a water supply. The crate must be big enough for the dog to stand. The size of the dog/crate dictates whether it's possible to travel in the cabin with you or in the cargo hold. Usually only very small dogs get to travel in the cabin. Check the size of your crate will pass through the airport scanner - yes, they do send the dogs through them . My dogs were big and the crate only just fitted through with a push. My dogs came from a rabies free country so this made things easier. Check the status re your country. Both times I did this I had an agent handle everything for me. It made it easier but expensive. You could do it yourself but allow more time to get everything in place. I had to get my dogs to the airport the night before the flight. They stayed at an animal compound in the airport. It's all possible but be prepared for a fair bit of work. I don't think your dog is too old for this. As long as he/she is healthy it will be OK.
  8. Very few places in Pattaya - more a word of mouth thing. Plus Facebook market place etc. There is a large area in Bangkok that sells S/H parts from motorcycles but I can't remember the name. It will take you half a day to see everything. Quite big. It's well known so shouldn't be difficult to Google it.
  9. Can you make it to Pattaya area ? PM me - I can link you to a web site and area where there are 30/40k of trails. No specific camping area or facilities so you are on your own there. But no restrictions. Very dog friendly.
  10. Animal Army - Dr Kwanchai will do it. 0931361605. He is out towards the Buddha Mountain area Pattaya/Jomtien. He is also a very experienced vet committed to helping Soi dogs. He helps with the Government sterilisation program. He would be able to give you a diagnosis for your dogs growth and what could be done with it. He did an operation on my Boxer recently at over 10 years old, no problems.
  11. Seven pups just born two weeks ago in my local restaurant. Eyes not open yet. Pattaya area. PM me if this is of help.
  12. It's been a while but I'll try and remember. Here are a few points. I brought two Boxers into Thailand. One came with me on the plane when I first moved here. The second came by air later (bought second dog and imported). Both dogs came from Taiwan - important as Taiwan is Rabies free. You need to be aware of this if you are coming from a country WITH Rabies as you will probably have to go through a quarantine period. Your dog will need certain vaccinations from a registered vet and paperwork to go with it. Also your dog must be chipped. As already stated, you can do import permit online. There are regulations as to size of travel box relative to the size of the dog (dog must be able to stand and have water). That's if the dog is travelling in the cargo hold. If it's a small dog and can go with you inside the plane then I am not sure re size regulations. Only some airlines will transport livestock so check which airline you can use first. They will then give you the regulations. First Boxer I brought in was waiting to be collected at customs inside the airport just after I collected my luggage. They will check that the chip code matches your import paperwork. My dog was released to me (still in the cage) but I then had to declare him at customs. It cost me 1000 Baht. Second Boxer I collected at Airport Customs at the Customs Building outside of the airport. Yes, it is true that there are many con men waiting and will tell you you need them to receive your shipment. They are not needed. Just ignore them. If you have done the job correctly with import papers then Customs will already have been in touch with you previously to tell you where to go and who to contact. You deal with customs DIRECT, no one else. Both times I had a company who deal with import/export of livestock help me. Reason I say this is they will take your dog the night before you fly. They will then deliver your dog to the airport in it's travel box ready to fly on the day of your departure. All paperwork done and in order. Yes, it does cost money to do this but it makes the whole thing much much easier. Having said that, there is nothing about this that is difficult if you are prepared to do the research and spend the time getting everything in order.
  13. Maybe. FYI I used to work in Taiwan - many mountains. Locals insisted on clearing as high up on the side of the mountains to plant Bin Lan Nuts (Beetle Nut). The locals chew this nut and then spit red coloured spit everywhere ! Supposed to help keep taxi drivers and truck drives awake. Anyway it's illegal to clear the mountain sides for any reason. But it still happened. During the monsoon season the results were brutal.
  14. Comming down 331 last night (on a Forza !). Was diverted twice due to severe flooding. Too deep even for the biggest trucks to pass through.
  15. Over 20 years working in Asia. Everything from factory workers to office staff. Most of the mid/upper managers were Thai Chinese. Maybe born in Thailand but still Chinese by tradition. Differnt work ethic. These managers often said that they would not hire Thai's to work on their factory lines if it were not for Thai law stating must have at least 30% Thai. They prefered Cambodian Laos et - harder workers. You will alwys lose workers to the promise of 20 Baht more further up the road. There is no concept of loyalty. Also in factories they are paid 13 months salary. One month is a "bonus" month. Not earned due to performance - it's a carrot. You will see many workers leave after getting the bonus. Same at holiday periods. Bus transport always sent all over the provinces to bring back workers after the holidays finish. You would be lucky to get back 40%. Always the same story. Hiring, training, losing. In all the time I have been doing this I have never met a Thai with a "fire in their belly". They just don't seem to exist. People will give all maner of reasons why. If you possesed drive in this information day and age there is no reason why you could not educate yourself and move up. I had only one girl who I can class as great. She was my office manager. I gave her resposibility and she took it. She hated Thai managers and their system of work. She could have gone a long way but she left to get married. I was very honoured to be a guest speaker when she married. She presented me with a very beautiful China bowl as a gift and thanked me for everything I had done for her. She was a rarity.
  16. Trierd several times to create an account but doesn't allow. Get a eror message in Thai (which I can't read). I have my 13 digit code which I enter along with my mobile number. Tried calling Bangrak Vaccination Centre but all in Thai - no English option. What I have noticed is on my paperwork that I have for the second jab is the field for my mobile number says "null". Maybe the reason I can not register is because this is missing. To create an account both my 13 digit ID and mobile number are needed as they will send a 6 digit OTP code to me. No big deal. I'll wait for the second jab and get it sorted when in Bangrak.
  17. Try Dr Kwanchai - Animal Army 0931361605 or 0850935954 He has an Animal Clinic out towards Buddah Mountain. Yes, out of town but he is an excellent vet.
