Quiet, affordable places to live near Pattaya?
4737 Carlin replied to 4737 Carlin's topic in Pattaya
I've been visiting Pattaya for years. Have mates there and its a great place for a night out. Just don't want to be in the thick of it. I'd like to keep cycling for as long as I'm able. -
Quiet, affordable places to live near Pattaya?
4737 Carlin replied to 4737 Carlin's topic in Pattaya
Thanks for all the replies - some great info and will help me to narrow down my search when I arrive next week. I cycle everyday and everywhere here in Chiangmai but I've no intention of riding in the city or on busy highways down in Pattaya - I've spent enough time down there to know it would be too dangerous. I want to be near some ok places to ride so I don't have to run the gauntlet of crazy drivers just getting out there. I'm 52 and quite a strong rider so will typically want to ride 60-90 kms at a time - preferably with hills if I can find any. Also, gravel tracks if there are any routes. -
Quiet, affordable places to live near Pattaya?

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I'll check out Sattahip, Bang Saray etc. while I'm there. Lake Mabprachan, in particular, looks like it could fit the bill. Just need to see what smaller properties are available in that area. -
I’m sure this isn’t the first time this has been asked, but I’m looking to relocate to the Chonburi area and need some suggestions on where to begin looking for a place. I’ve visited Pattaya/Jomtien dozens of times over the years but don’t really know the surrounding areas. I’d like to live close(ish) to Pattaya but anywhere within a 25 mile radius is ok as I’ll only go into the city a couple of times a month. I’ve lived in Chiangmai for the last few years, so am a keen cyclist. I’m not expecting anything that compares to here down there, but a quiet area or town with places to ride nearby are a must. Anyhow, I’ll be down there for a month next week so I’m just looking for suggestions on where to start looking. Do Sriratcha, Bangsaem, and Bangsaray seem like good places to start? Maybe around Jomtien or Naklua? I don’t really need to be near the coast so inland towns would also be ok. Like a lot of us, I live on a budget so rents less than 10,000 baht per month would be in my ballpark. I like to eat local food and buy at local markets, so I’m not too bothered about western restaurants etc. - I can get all that in Pattaya. If you’ve read this far and can help, any advice or suggestions appreciated.

Thailand's extreme air pollution: 'I feel sorry for my daughter'
4737 Carlin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It can't, or won't, be fixed. Here in CM a lot of the expats I know are in denial about this being a s*** place to live. I, for one, won't be living here this time next year. -
56 provinces warned of waterway overflows following heavy rain

You you must be living in a different 'CM' to me. Here in Chiangmai it's been raining for what seems like months. Its p****** down out there right now. -
Many thanks for these helpful replies. They all seem to be closed in Central Pattaya so I'll bus it down to Jomtien and try some of these suggestions.

I visited last month and the place I usually go (iSPA - opposite top end of Soi 6) seemed to be closed down. I'm aware of Mari Jari in Jomtien but does anyone know of any currently open in Pattaya ? I'm back there next week so any help appreciated.

Correct. The simple fact is there are way too many morons on these roads who are not capable or qualified to be driving a road vehicle. They wouldn't last 5 minutes on roads in my country. They'd get nicked by the police, who actually do police work and enforce the law, or beaten up in a road rage incident for driving like a retard,

Police Sued for B72m for Doctor’s Death at Crossing

The police should pay them compensation for not enforcing the law in the first place. In civilised countries, pedestrians are allowed to cross the road without arrogant morons trying to mow them down. -
Bangkok to Designate Special Lanes for Motorcycles

They need to designate special lanes for pedestrians. Motorcycles are a PITA all over this country. -

What do you think is a fair beer price in a bar?
4737 Carlin replied to FruitPudding's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
75 baht for a large bottle in non-tourist bars here in CM. I wouldn't pay any of those prices in the poll unless I was on holiday in Pattaya. Even then I'd ask for ice and a glass - something they hate down there in Patts. -
SAS (Super Army Soldier) but don't like to talk about it. Also, 'top boy' with the hardest football firm in Britain. Again, don't like to talk about it.

Was there any point in this bloke flying to Glasgow in his private jet ? I find it hard to believe that any of the other leaders would take him seriously.- 53 replies
