  1. oops...answered my own post, when trying to edit...just read below

Time of year is everything. I suppose, during the hot season...everywhere is bad.

Sea breezes may make it seem cooler (any island)

From December to February, however..Udon Mueang is colder than Chiang Mai Mueang. I am sure Chiang Rai is up near the top as well.

it is on the tallest elevations, of course..that it gets really cold.

Doi Inthanon can have frost......and I was downright cold in Doi Ankhan.

Mae Hong Song..is pretty chilly (especially the higher parts).

Loei has a place that sets records..as well. (fogot the mountain). Also Petchabun.

Clear nights..at the highest elevations..are always nice...but heats up in the day.

  2. When talking about living in Florida on ThaiVisa it always comes to beach ... beach... beach... etc.

There are great places to live in Florida that are nowhere near the beach and the beach is never more than a few hours drive away.

Plus, you've never seen one of these pointing towards the beach:

    Wow! What's that for? Hurricanes?

Are those bullet holes in the arrow? (another potential problem)

Either bullet holes or bolts to clamp the sign to the post

    odds are 50/50

  4. Having to wait 16 month apart before they could come to the USA seems crazy. Happy that it all worked out but people reading this shouldn't assume that will be the norm.

Actually, the norm is 18 months.

    bah.gif

Yes. I had to go through homeland security, before the visa was forwarded to Bangkok. That, alone, takes six months. Aftter that...It was another 9 months to get the appointment. She was shot down, as I also did not have an address in the states. (My mother, who was still alive at that time, needed us to care for her in her home). The embassy said....no way...I needed a house of my own and a job. (I am retired military and disabled). So much for the service angle. I just stayed overseas too long (20 years).

Now it is all expired..and need to do the whole thing anew. Homeland security...Embassy appointment...and the entire package. Cannot even start until I have logged six months at a permanent "Physical Address" in the USA.

Thinking of not doing the Fiancee visa...just marrying her here and getting it registered at the Embassy. From there..we will just wait on an Immigration Visa..if and when it does happen.

1800 dollars in the hole already. Have to do it right next time.

They could not figure out the "Retired living in Thailand" part. Then again...is it really what we want? We have it very good here in Thailand. I am not an Engineer..nor am I upwardly mobile. Our quality of life will actually go down...for two or three years...and she would have to work 40 hours a week.

  5. Not everyone falls off the balcony....

I came so close to death by alcohol, albeit the Philippines, that I find it lucky to be alive in Thailand.

So many of us burn the bridges, that we can never go back.

He could have turned to alcohol and hookers, but made it back alive...and sober.

Liver and life intact. Took me 20 years, and would never of made it where I was.

I must add, a beautiful house is not always a home.....

Home is where you lay your head down on the lap of the woman you love, and you can sleep knowing you did right.

On the humorous side...hope he does not get bored with having it all. Sometimes living on the edge is what we need.

  6. As above, I am fedexing my 2 from a mail forwarding service before I activate them.

I recommend you have the cards in hand before you activate.

Can do online or by phone. They may want to verify your identity as they will know you are doing this from Thailand. Just be honest and answer the questions.

Also...I have always had to verify that I am using these cards overseas...in what countries and for how long. You can wrap everything up with a simple phone call. Cards from my country are flagged and frozen, if the account holder does not inform them that they will be used outside the country.

  7. Apart from everything else, haven't they heard of foreign exchange costs.

It is far more economical for me to he bring my monthly income in a few times a year rather than every month.

Also I thought the idea was to establish that you have a source of income to support yourself.

What conceivable difference can it make how that money arrives in the country? And if it doesn't, wouldn't that suggest that you don't actually need it.

As a matter of fact, you could borrow money in your home country, deposit the 800K and be perfectly OK even though you have a negative net income. Which, if this lunacy persists is probably what I am going to do.

There is no change in the rules. No lunacy. Only a couple of guy trying to start a rumor by false headline to attract posters. The headline, "Income Statements from the Embassy no longer accepted" is not true.

sometimes people exaggerate their difficulties.... he may have had "other" issues that made the reviewing officer scratch their head. When confronted with skeptical proof of income...they may decide to require "additional" proof...over and beyond what we have experienced.

  8. If this program adds options for those people who are under 50....then fine.

I do hope people under 50 have new, and cheaper alternatives...as this would be a hard pill to swallow.

Paying up front, and then deciding...after a year, that Thailand is not what you expected.

Perhaps a 50 percent refund if one should pull out after a year...might make it viable.

Just a beneficial suggestion. It might pay off for everyone concerned.

  9. You did receive the extension?

By the way...it sounds like you were "working around" the system. First one address..and then another.

7 years on tourist visas? That probably did not go over well, and probably raised some kind of red flags (especially if there were some consecutive back to back visas).

You should not be "living" at those addresses... better to be "visiting".

  10. I am grateful to the US for a great education and the bit of money I made working there. At the same time I despise living there (incidentally, I also despise the IRS following me around with laws like FATCA when I haven't consumed a single tax dollar in the past decade).

Can't understand Americans not wanting to return.

USA is a big place with plenty of warm areas to live in.

Not to mention guns ..... I love guns, YeeHaa.

If only I weren't a Brit, cold and wet in the south, cold, wet and dark in the north.

    (and no guns)

That way, when you get fed up..you can just shoot something.

Besides, America is getting "fitter"...dodging bullets.

  11. Here is a surefire plan...

Pay her to go out with you again for a short time.....and ask her if she has a friend (in the same barhook joint) that you can do a threesome with. Pay her friend for a short time too.

If she says yes...then it is probably all business. Now you can take both home to daddy...and you will impress the hell out of her "brother" and "cousin".

Of course...you are going to pay double...but your next post is going to be way more interesting.

  12. The trap is to latch on to anyone who will lessen their burden. You have to look at it from their point of view. You know what financial security for a beggar is? Knowing they will have something to eat today.

You will notice, however, that in Thailand, that is a bunch of crap.

These girls eat more often than I do.

They are in it for the big bucks...not a MacSandwich.

Most of these suckers are each forking over 10 or 20 thousand baht a month...lol...in the mail !!!

The more on the line..the more income. They are paying off cars and houses...not meals.
