    thanks for the replies

    I checked Spam routinely

I waited (too) patiently assuming that we all had the same objective

but I dont think that is correct

had I not found that place on the web to enter the T&G code, I would have had to start all over from scratch

I never saw an insurance offering specifying the elderly

that would have saved some pain

I filled out completely four insurance policies before I found one that would accept me at 78

    made me feel aged

I finally settled with World Trip, but considerably more than 650 B. !

I cant understand how the application process could be considered normal

though obviously it would have improved with practice and the easy availability of req. docs

but I am skeptical it could ever by completed in 5 mins. !!

choosing a hotel was relatively easy

I chose from among the cheapest hotels $30 and was satisfied with the process

56 Hotel answered each of my queries by return while T&G never answered one

it must have been the mark up from $30 to $154 (including tests)

I dont know how long it took to get approved as nothing was dated.

Thailand please get rid of this cumbersome Thailand Pass and Insurances.  I also am older at 71 and I am very confused by the procedure to return to Thailand after my, very soon, trip to Canada.  I love Thailand but why make it so difficult to fly back to Thailand?  Can't you do like others countries and simplify the entry?  A visa on entry, money and full vaccinations proofs are all what should be needed to visit this beautiful country.  Why make it so difficult?  I see so many empty restaurants and closed hotels in Bangkok and Koh Chang, what are you trying to do?  Have you seen the food lines in Pattaya and Samui?  Are you trying to ruin this beautiful country and push to misery the low income people trying to make a living?

I wonder how this will affect the expats view of how much better the Pheu Thai is. Seems they have the same racist idea's as the rest. I said it before and will say it again. It does not really matter who is in power in Thailand they are all corrupt and incompetent.

Now by riding the fear wave and blaming an outside source they want to become bigger. Once they are in power you will see little change as they will take good care of their own pockets.

Besides future forward there are not many parties in Thailand that are "good" they all just want to be in power. Last time I saw the PTP doing exactly the same the current government is doing. Just doing as they please ignoring the press the people and when corruption cases surface they like the current MOB just hide it and make sure that investigations go their way.

The only difference is who gets rich of being in government. Thailand has a long way to go and with people like this fighting for power it wont progress much.

Yesterday Vietnam opened to international tourists without any restrictions...  Which economy will recover faster and where do you think the foreign tourists will go today?

Where can people get the booster?

    RAZZ

Yes, why is it so difficult to get a booster shot in Thailand?  I have checked and I see that all vaccination venues are fully booked or they have reached their inventory limits.

Why do we have to always fight for vaccinations when in the USA boosters are readily available in departments stores and in most large pharmacies.  If for lack of imagination, can't they copy what is readily done in the USA?

Where can people get the booster shot in Bangkok???

    I'm nine months late.

Is there a link for appt on the main website? I'd thought I'd seen one.

Main DLT still says NoT OPEN.

I went with an appointment for my DL renewal exactly one year after my expiration birthday and all went ok except that they did not want to accept my 13 digits id from my vaccination.  My wife confront them with force and then they accepted my passport id.  It was my last day, 365 days late, and they wanted us to come back with another appointment from them if not for my wife verbal violent intervention.

Moral: When visiting any government office always go with your wife if you can.

This Rule is still in order and means no alcohol for 24 hours in school zones, same for shops on gas stations. The 2pm - 5pm nonsense is a extra horse.

The Thai government could have made 300% in taxes on those sales that did not proceed.  They are shooting themselves in the foot.  Where I come from (Quebec, Canada) they only close for 1 hour at 3 AM in order to clean the premises then they are open again for a full 23 hours/day and all are happy.

This incomprehensible Thai rule came from Thaksin era ban on alcohol for religious motives.  Its was aimed at cutting down on the number of first-time drinkers. This has left business owners confused, leaving people out of work and the owners waiting for clarification on the new law until today.   In those days, there was the Thaksin war on vices and drugs, nobody complained as I presume nobody wanted to get shot...

I suspect they are looking forward to a time when they can ‘normalise’ the arrival process.

Pre-Covid there was already a huge bottle neck at immigration.

With increasing flight numbers testing at the airport will create an additional bottle neck.

Self testing at home / hotel (i.e. accommodation) is the viable solution if they can get it organised.

The issue of course is the organisation: We were given Antigen Test Kits by our test and go hotel, there was no information where to submit the data - this is the part which needs to be ironed out.

If the test is positive do you think the traveler will inform the Thai authorities? ...

  7. Thanet Supharothatrangsi, chairman of the Chonburi Tourism Business Association is a courageous man who is not scared of telling the truth instead of kissing the boots of the governing generals.  There are no tourists coming to Thailand right now and all with common sense know it.  The Thai people and Thai business community are suffering, they have been deprived of a job and income without any compensation, how can they survive without a salary?  Only by walking anywhere in Bangkok and one will see all business are closed and for rent or worse for sale.

Welcome back international tourists, but you can't go to a pub, because they are all closed.

Does the right hand know what the left hand is doing? .... that's a rhetorical question.

By the way, wouldn't this be a great time to abolish the bizarre alcohol sales times?

This is going on since the Thaksin's government and it is ridiculous.  When you restrict the sale of alcohol then you also are hurting the economy, the same about closing at midnight.  If you are open all day and all night, you then double the employment and the health of the Thai economy.  Let the market rule, be it during the day and during the night money is flowing for the benefit of all.

Hanoi a few  years back reinstated the all night economy and I am sure the government taxes coffers increased for this.  Let the money flow 24 hours a day.

Does anyone have any idea what the cost of this covid insurance to re enter is?

I suspect that there are lot people like me who want to travel to the home country to visit friends and relatives but are not sure they will be able to re enter Thailand. From what I see today, if confirmed, we would need to provide World Health Authority approved vaccinations confirmation and we have had that done in Thailand that should not be a problem, then a PCR test in the home country within 72 hours of flying back ( cost ?) and have covid-19 cover for 50k$, so does anyone have any idea what the cost of this insurance is for say over 70's?

I also want to know, I am 71 next week.  I thought that the THB 800,000 required by long stay O-A retirement visa extension was solely to insure that all bill are paid, including health insurance.  Thailand does not want us after 70? We can still contribute a lot to Thai society.
