  1. It never ceases to amaze me how these internet farang forums resort to being platforms for whinging about everything that is bad about Thailand. I agree that many posters on this thread that speculating way too much about the shooter until the facts are in. But hey, what the hel_l, let's slam the Thai people. If life here is so onerous then no-one is pointing a gun at your head forcing you to stay here. As a foreigner if you want respect from Thais then behave in a way that is worthy of respect.

Even this goes completely OT, I will comment on the respect part even it should be on a other Thai Society or something thread. Mostly I do agree with you but all the respect you will ever get is the respect for a farang since you're not Thai, (well, depends how Thai the respectants are).

Actually there might even be a case where someone is holding a gun on your head to stay here.

List of the magic three of Thais consept of respect.

1: Older (Phii), well doesn't matter much if your not really old on comparison since you are not Thai.

2: How much money you have/wealth (Rueai), since you are farang this is already a nescessity because you have been able to come here in the first place.

3: How much power/guns you have, against someone who might try to confront you. A guaranteed success, usually.

But well as the case of this poor guy will show maybe it's just not enough. All same happens to Thais every day.

I'm not talking black and white but just as what I have percieved. No:2 bothers me the most, since my colture thought me it's not so important, I can still have a nice relations with my "rich" Thai family-in-law, but it can be recognized.

I should ad that more money more dangerous it gets here on avg. so maybe I'm just like.

So sorry for another life wasted before it's time.

  2. For gawds sake !!

Just quit the death sticks and stop being a burden on the health system and your loved ones.

Weakwilled nicotine addicts. No better than yabba or heroin addicts...

I might be wrong here Hagler, but you come across as a reformed smoker (see my post above). Those who have never smoked, don't usually come across so aniti!

    Aitch

Nope sorry. Just think that smokers are just loser druggies like the rest of the substance abusers in the world.

What about the substance enjoyers? Case usually less legal the better.

  3. Does look interesting. However it appears the Thai government is suspicious of it. MCOT English News :D

    ...and you know why :D

BANGKOK, June 13 (TNA) – Public Health Minister Chaiya Sasomsab ordered a study on information of electronic cigarettes to find measures to prevent importing e-cigarettes to Thailand because existing law doesn't cover the new product.

There is no nicotine they can't charge duty on them! :o

The e- cigarette consists of a cartridge, an atomizer, and a rechargeable battery. It doesn't contain tobacco but it has nicotine, propylene glycol, a chemical used in a fog machine, and fruity taste. Each cartridge is the equivalent of 15 conventional cigarettes.

    Severe loss of revenue!!

Has anyone any other notions as to why Thailand is trying to restrict the sale of Electronic cigarettes? The Newspaper called "The Nation" recently had an article that warned against the use of these devices citing a study made by a Mahidol University dental school researcher called Dr Varanant Buejeap. In ti it explains that the study revealed that:

Using electronic cigarettes to quit smoking is hazardous to your health and nervous system. They cram too much nicotine into your blood. Mahidol University dental school researcher Dr Varanant Buejeap says electronic cigarettes contain nicotine and 28 carcinogenic substances, such as alkaloida, which releases substances that have amphetaminelike effects. What could happen

This increases blood pressure and lipids in blood vessels. This makes the heart work harder and can lead to heart failure and sexual dysfunction.

She said nicotine released by the electronic cigarette is absorbed into blood vessels faster than regular cigarettes and will stay in the body longer than nicotine chewing gum.

So, the electronic cigarette is not recommended as a tool to quit smoking.

"It is better to just stop smoking or do not smoke an electronic cigarette if you are using nicotine gum. They will not help much. Instead it will cause lung, liver and mouth cancers," she said.

But the article does not link to the study directly and all mails to the staff at the univeristy have gone unanswered. The study itself appears to contain false egrigious information about the dangers of "e-smoking" In the article also, you will notice that it pormotes the use of nicotine-gum as a safe alternative. Now I know that a professor in thailand named Yongyuth Tundulawessa has coppy-writed his own nicotine gum called nicomild-2 and is the gum that is marketed to thai people. does anyone think there is a connection? has anyone ever heard of Dr Varanant Buejeap? her name is not listed anywhere outside of the nations's article.

Has anyone ran into difficulty trying to buy an electronic cigarette?

All help would be appreciated, thanks.

here is the article by the nation http://www.nationmultimedia.com/2008/08/25...al_30081338.php

This seems an interesting alternative. So where can we buy them?

I guess the Dr's name is spelled, วรนันธ์ บัวจีบ, if someone can read the articles, google has lots of them.

  4. Thanks for the replies and the sympathy some expressed. I was just loking a bit more info of the law. Well, guess it would be a time to hire someone if it goes to that.

For obvious reasons I can't reveal too much of my identity. Just to answer to some posters inquiries I can say that we are on the sixth year of the relationship and there is no cheating involved as far I know of. These "tandrums" are nothing new also. But I am surprised that most posts suggest to leave this "sick case" behind.

I'd just try to work it out, if possible. If not? That was the original reason for my post.

  5. Like food and entertainment? It's cheeeeeeeeeep.

I won't name names but the basic costs like living, Bangkok, same quality, where ever you're from, mostly over inflated. Export goods ex. Europe, over inflated but maybe for a reason.

    Over all have fun. :o

  6. I am sure this has been covered again and again, but here is my question for the legal or othervice expertice, please.

Situation being living at the wife's/GF house.

Having her get mad for not anything serious.

Her inviting the BF in the first place to stay there.

She wanting/willing to throw him out.

She wanting/willing to keep everything he owns.

In Bangkok, if it changes anything.

    Destrying the guy's property.

So what will be his rights? None?

I would be interrested of a foreigner females rights as well, if ....

Thanks will be given for sensible responses.

  7. Sorry for the ignorance as I only got to page two so far. Just a few questions if some would care to explain.....

To begin with, Yes he could suffer some kind of trauma as a result. Yes, the Thai teacher did go over her judgement and should never teach again at any school. Ever. No matter the causes.

The questions unanswered what is her history? Which school was this? Where's the real story?

Edit: Forgot the most important question, what kind of sex really happened?

  8. I would like to protest against those protesting against the posting of that image, as it was from a Thai Newspaper.

I don't think this forum needs to adopt some specific western 'media stance' on images as it is a forum meant for everyone, interested or living in Thailand. So surely being more close to the Thai media-stance than say the British is far more logical...

There is a certain logic to that...

  9. Sorry about the victim, but

How convenient that the culprits are Burmese, pity though that they are not Rohingyas??

Exactly my first thought too. How convenient for the government to find a scapegoat and legitimize their abominable treatment of the Burmese refugees.

Whom in most cases are not even Burmese ethnicly but mostly Karens and and Shans. Shans and Thais sharing a very similar language.. :o

  10. And I thought that something had changed in the government, or since the past one, or past past past,,,,.... :o

If everyone weren't aware of this subject they should be now... And this add was FREE.

Nothing to do with Hi5 directly though, just the normal hipocracy.

Im sure none of these gov. people would never take an advance of someone in need of some cash.

Ask a lady on a sales job. High or low. Selling thousands or millions deals. They know.

    Pathethic.

  11. Its window dressing tinkering, but it's a step in the right direction, and nice to have some good news !

Why don't they just make entrance fees the same for foriegners as it is for Thai's,

    rather than wiping them completely.

Sounds good but TIT! I think what you will see will not help tourism at all, Thais will be allowed in for free and Farangs will still have to pay double!

    Chris

Please forgive me for bypassing the OP but post 59 seems to suggest a logic that one would be required to be escorted by atleast two Thai wives to enter. This could be of benefit in several ways. :o

  12. actually, roads were first invented before vehicles of any kind.

I might have missed this but the the roads in the most of The World are/were created by them whom pass through, no?

Well the Romans sure, have you ever tried to drive a that kind of road with a 4-wheeled vehicle? Will promise you it would have been a really bumpy ride. So somebody came and invented the fly pasts, even before the Romans.

What about Bangkok, it used to be a nice city full of khlongs, before any of us got here, but not so long time ago.

The children's safety, come on, look out to any street. Good topic though.

  13. I know many people will probably not agree with me, but I don’t think Thaksin has been such an evil man. I don’t believe that Thaksin was any more corrupt than many other Thai ‘officials’, or indeed many other government officials of other countries.

I think Thaksin was probably the most advanced, proactive and forward thinking PM Thailand ever had. I argue that removing him from his post was a politically motivated act.

I’m not saying I’m a fan of the PPP and its current leadership. I’m just saying that I think Thaksin was the best leader at that time.

Thailand’s ‘Elite’ has made a profound mistake by ousting Thaksin in the way it did in the 2006 coup: It has created a very angry man with many followers. Now this ’angry man’ has become a powerful, invisible enemy with many resources to his disposal.

Now Thaksin can address thousands of followers by phone and stir up even more turmoil within the country.

I think now the best policy for Thai politics may be just to not talk about Thaksin any more. After some time people may just forget him. But I’m afraid that this will probably not happen that way…

You have got it all right, so far on this post. Respects

  14. First I have to say I am sorry for the injured.

However, they have been warned by the PM, over the TV, radio, newspaper, etc to avoid crowed place. Yet they are foolish enough not to listen. They take their chances, so why complain.

Just like those who went to protest with PAD and UDD. They have been warned (<deleted> the no warning shot by the police) REPEATEDLY, and they should not be there in the first place. If anything happens, sorry, I have to say "SERVE THEM RIGHT".

You see, there are several warning not to visit Thailand at the moment. I took the advice. Else, who known, I may be one of the Klongtoey victims while sight-seeing.

Politics aside now, yet weren't you the one who didn't even know where Khlong toey market is located?

Would it be nice if the PM drew a map for us every week or day, pointing out the un-crowded areas in Krungthep??? He will surely guarantee these are the areas uncrowded.

  15. Well this is in accord with Kunying Porntip.

That should be scientific enough for most people.

It is a question of who gave what orders and the outcome.

So they now want to blame PAD for disrupting the funeral

or at least reducing the numbers of mourners. and messing with Loy Kraytong too.

That explains the sudden arrests in short succession of ALEDGED PAD bombers.

Transparent manipulation of the public as the governments legitamacy clock ticks down inexorably..

I have speak with some people in Pattaya whos have explain that they became 300 bhat per person to assist in PAD demonstracions.

Hose make many noise became 500-600 bhat.Hose have a Van became 2000 bhat per day.Who can stay in Gouvermetn house for more then 3 monts without salary?

We foreigner dont now to much about Thai history. But we now what is Democratics rule. It mean 50%+1 vote you have reight to compose government.Rabbele from the stret and barricade can not in Democrat Country desolate legal vote Gouverment. This is the way how Nacis came on power. PAD are NAZIS group. They are using like Nazis propaganda with many lie.But 100 time spoken lie became to be truth. In Democrat Country ho make barrikade on the street, and occupy Goverment house will be whip of with Police and if necessary with army. And became baton on the back, and put in jail.In eeach democratic country

    PAD are NAZIS

Why is it so many Pro-Thaksin newbie posters all signed up on about the same date,

Joined: 2008-06-14 but only now start to post, a lot. Seems there are SEVERAL

with almost the same exact sign up date, but do nothing for a long time and suddenly

    BOOM lots of Pro-Thaksin crap.

So where you from foreigner? English sure isn't your language,

even your cut and paste from another source isn't in good English...

And not attributed to a source with a link to it.

Do you really expect us to roll over like puppies and believe that?

You obviously have an agenda, but it is short on verifiable facts.

Comparing PAD and Nazi's is spurious at best, and quite erroneous,

and in rather extremely poor taste at the anniversary of Crystal Nachte too.

Being nationalist and being national socialist are NOT the same thing by a long shot.

Being nationalist and being fascist are also NOT the same thing.

At least do some research before posting,

like read the dictionary for definitions and spelling.

    ::didnt care to edit, sorry.

HO, HO, HO, The Christmas is coming. We all oughta be nice boys and girls.

No more mass murders this year OK? You might even get a spelling wiz installed.

As far as I have seen over 90% of the posts have some spelling mistakes,,, kinda ruins my day as it takes the twice the time to read. Most probably native speakers, but not writers it seems. But no blame on you. The English language is the weirdest in the World. Just on my opinion the non-natives seem to have better grammar skills in the end....

  16. But I think that Thai Chinese girls also like to check out the social status before going on a date with a guy.

True. However, some of these ladies don't have the greatest social status pedigrees themselves. Besides, if some of then end up looking their mothers, they better not be too picky.

    You are so right.

  17. http://www.bangkokpost.com/topstories/tops...s.php?id=131503

Great article :o ...... talks about mobilizing people. Setting up a training camp to teach people how to throw Molotov cocktails. It is basically short of declaring a war on the army.

    W

A Molitov cocktail is not likely to realy stop a tank. It will light up the outside,

and burn off, might blind the driver or targeting for spell, but all gone in 5 minutes or so.

Now you place a guy with a 60mm machine gun on top of each tank, and you tell me

what kinda nut will run up and throw a molotov cocktail....

Besides they just told them to add 2-3 small fire extingusers into each tank.

Nothing like telegraphing your moves. Silly bunnies.

The Molotov cocktail, as named after Soviet Gen. Molotov in charge of invasion of Finland in the late 30's, by the Finnish defense force, Russians attempted but defeated invasion of Finland, The Winter War, worked as a very effective weapon in destroying the Soviet tanks. Tactically applied, lit up and thrown on the back of the tank, where the air in-take for the engine and crew is located had a devastating effect. The Molotov cocktail played a crucial part in this part of the WW2.

I'm not familiar with today's tanks, they should have got smarter but you can always find the weak spots.

What comes to the topic i'm sure there will be some interesting times ahead.

  18. With most countries in the world, it is the airlines responsibility cost wise to return you if declined entry, the easiest way for them is for you to have a ticket onwards to a destination where you have a right to be, eg a long term visa or your National country. I have never been checked by Thai immigration for a fwd ticket on visa exempt entries, but had to show it every time I have left a developed country to airline check in staff. I had on my possession tickets to a final destination where I had a work permit in my passport, so that was OK.

On my experience exactly the same. Long term visa no prob. If you will be living in the country for a year what could be a problem. Also, In Europe I have been never checked for that.
