Reminds me of when I was a kid and I had to walk 5 miles to and from school through knee deep snow. And it was uphill both ways.

Well done on the health care. I admit i was a little skeptical about rural health care but I have become a believer. I have mart many excellent professionals in MOH and MOPH, a product of Thailand’s indentured servitude, and have often wondered how they manage when the folks on top are politically appointed dunces.

Another excellent column. But I think it might be more appropriate to call the 1.9 Billion baht aid package the General welfare fund.

We know that the virus can’t survive heat, humidity and sunshine. So instead of this madness it would make more sense for time on the beach to be mandatory. Just sayin’

It is not totally unreasonable to worry about whether an effective vaccine will materialize or not but the approach being taken with the current crop of candidates is scientifically designed to maximize effectiveness and deal with any evolution of the virus. Even so, there is a need to consider life without a vaccine and figure out how to get on with it without shutting down the economy or keeping people indoors. One reason Thailand has been so successful relative to other countries is that we have three enemies of the virus in abundance: Sunshine, heat and humidity. I expected to see a Songkran spike but it didn’t happen, I believe because so many people were outdoors at the time. Let’s use that advantage.

Too much bashing of the gallant boys in brown here. After all, in London it can take police 15 minutes to reach the scene of a crime. In Washington, D.C. it can take up to twenty minutes. Here inThailand when a crime is committed the police are right there on the spot.

Pull the other one. It's got bells.

I wonder just what a qualified chiropractor is qualified to do. I have noticed that chiropractors without borders is not rushing to deal with the Ebola outbreak.

Welcome to Thailand where we put the Generals in general elections.

No, "deadly typhoon Rammasun" is not going to "hit Thailand". What a misleading and spectacular title.
Have a look at the projected tracking map from the link below:
http://www.usno.navy.mil/NOOC/nmfc-ph/RSS/jtwc/warnings/wp0914.gif
The storm will make landfall in northern Vietnam, and the dissipate over far northern Vietnam and China. It will not "hit Thailand", but the circulation will enhance the normal southwestern monsoonal flow and we will likely see some more rain from that, but we will not see a tropical storm crossing Thailand.
Good to see some facts appear. For awhile I was worried that our military masters might have annexed a typhoon prone regions without telling us.

I am having the same problem. Could be the junta or the world cup or sunspots. Take your pick.

I have a TOT router and although the TOT bandwidth test tells me that I am getting 11 Mbps download speeds, many websites, such as BBC and YouTube, are not responding while local ones such as Nation have no problem. Is any body else experiencing this difficulty?

This is a great start. Now when will we see a reform of the military? Or will we still see bogus bomb detectors, dodgy blimps and military involvement in human trafficking and other smuggling operations? After all aren't the military supposed to be the good guys? Don't worry, be happy.

And who is going to reform the military? Just asking.

I agree that there is no excuse for the Thai military withholding this information. Similarly, there is no excuse for the Malaysians not asking. If you consider that the Malaysian attitude is likely to be similar to the Thais in this sort of situation you have to wonder what they are hiding ir trying to cover up. On the other hand there is an old saying that when the two possible explanations for government behavior are malign conspiracy and incompetence, you should put your money on incompetence.

Has anybody else noticed a funny smell to the drinking water in the last couple of days? I live very near the MWA drinking water plant on Khlong Prapa so it definitely isn't due to distance from the source.

Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life.
For some of us, it's the ONLY way.

In most countries that allow elections, voting is an act of civic responsibility. In Thailand it has become an act of courage and, ultimately, futility.

I still think the answer is a UFC cage match between Suthep and Chalerm, winner take all. Who needs elections?

The problem with Sinovac is that nobody really knows how good or bad it is. Unlike the vaccines approved in Europe and the US it has not completed the crucial phase 3 clinical trials and probably never will. Also it is worth noting that Sinovac is not on the list of vaccines that will allow you to travel to Europe.
