  1. I downloaded your attachment to a usb stick. I then followed your procedure exactly. When I looked in the fonts folder i had pasted all that was there was the ARIAL.TTF font. I am running kodi 16.1

This is so frustrating because as i said i have got it working on my laptop so i have double checked all the settings against that. The only thing different is on my laptop i have three choices of fonts but on my box only two.

Sorry, been away for some time, so haven't followed this thread. OK - here we go :

FIRSTLY. download the (hopefully attached) "fonts" zip file and unzip it. You will need to transfer the unzipped fonts folder to a USB stick or SD-CARD. Make sure the USB/SD is inserted into your Android Box before you switch on.

    1. If you're NOT using ES Fi;e Explorer, then install it - so that we're "talking" about the same things. Different explorers do different things in different ways - and tend to screw up any communication. You can uninstall ES later.

    2. Start ES and allow ES to use your USB.

On the LEFT ES panel click on USB or SD-CARD1 and find the folder "fonts". Press on

the folder name for a few seconds until the bottom status line changes to COPY....etc.

    Click on COPY.

On the LEFT ES panel click on HOME - not the FIRST HOME, but the one underneath. Now you have a list of files and folders on the screen. Click on "Android", then on "data".

    3. Look for the folder "org.xbmc.kodi"
Click on this folder, then on "files", then on "kodi", then on "media".
This is where you have to place the "fonts" folder.
Click on the PASTE icon on the bottom status line. The folder will be inserted
so that you can see "fonts",  "SKINDEFAULT.jpg" and  "SPLASH.jpg"
in the "media" folder on the screen - nothing more.

    4. Start KODI and click on SYSTEM, Video, Subtitles - and in "Font to use
for subtitles" you should now be able to choose from the arrow menu.
Choose ARIAL.ttf (YES - with capital letters!) - this is the same font you downloaded.
In "Languages to download subtitles for" choose English, Thai (and any other
    languages you need).

    5. Now you should be able to see any Thai subtitles.

IF this doesn't work the first time, then try closing down and starting KODI
    again.

Hope it all goes off OK. :D

    Cheers

    fonts.zip

Followed this to the letter, still no joy. When I opened the media folder it was empty so all that is there now is the "ARIAL" font??

    Heh - yep, priorities......

I'd given today (Saturday) as the last chance (for the moment) to fix this 'small' problem. Yesterday, I finished off my Kodi session by installing the fonts directory in the (hopefully) correct place with 2 new fonts (1 JohnG's, 1 from another site) and leaving things until today.

Still couldn't get anything to work at all today - couldn't even download subtitles from ANY source, though it was possible to CHOOSE a subtitle. Hmmm.....that meant looking at the error log, which is divinely full of very cryptic messages. I could only guess from the log that there was something wrong with the download subtitle path (even though there wasn't one specified) so I reckoned it was necessary to set everything back to default, after taking a backup. Oh - and my file explorer had "View hidden files" turned on (by default), by the way.

That apparently helped, as I was now able to choose JohnG's font under KODI System/Subtitles. After choosing several tv-shows/movies, all with a weird Rick Astley video (just what IS that thing?) I finally managed to choose a movie and download a Thai subtitle - it worked! Thai subtitles displaying, so the wife is very happy. I have to take another backup (just in case) - and to make a full "How-to-do" description -  and that's my lot for the next few days (other things call).

Many thanks for your immense help Peterw42 - and to JohnG for his arial file - and to all for your excellent advice and comments. Hope others can succeed in getting their Thai subtitles to work, too.

Cheers - and good viewing. :D

Where exactly did you put the font on the android box please?

  4. Update. After trying all day yesterday I have finally had a bit of sucsess. My android box was getting rather slow due to putting too many things on so I decided to have a go on my laptop and BINGO! Finally got it to work on the laptop, showing a choice of three fonts now, the original two plus the one I added.

So now I still have to tackle the android box or is it possible to back up the laptop to a memory stick and transfer to the android box??

Again any help is extremely gratefull

Happy to help, it was a while ago, but i think I can remember.

First you need a app like es file explorer to go to directories, copy etc. The path is something like sdcard\android\zbmc\files\kodi\media\fonts.

Put the font in there, restart kodi, it will then be available in the system setting, subtitles in kodi. I used Arialuni.tff as it has does lots of languages.

I set it up years ago and promptly forgot, from memory you need to show hidden files and depending on version of kodi, you may have to add the fonts directory.

Let me know how you go

Well i tried all day yesterday, added fonts to kodi and also to the skin but still no joy. On a plus note i got the subtitle search up at the start of the film and the subtitles are there but still just show as boxes after downloading them. Any more ideas? Totally stumped with this. I think the problem lies with the subtitle settings in the skin as there are only two choices, arial or teletext. I also downloaded and added a set of fonts that are supposed to eliminate any problems reading them but still no joy

There is a great kodi system services add on called auto subs, it searches for subs every time you play a movie. As others have said, you need to put a thai font into kodi.

How do you put the thai font into kodi? (Using android box), been struggling with this for ages so thanks for any help you can give.

I don't have access to the refusal letter but I imagine that shortcomings in the first application had specific comment about what would be needed to be improved in any subsequent application.

The good news is that you now have the visa.

In my first ever application - for my partner - I presented 3 bound copies of the application, each having at least 70 photos and 40 pages of email correspondence. I also included copies of chanotes for 2 properties along with evidence of ownership of a car and 2 motocys. I supplied 12 months bank statements (UK and Thailand) with P60's to show income and various statements to show assets. The pack was over 6 inches in thickness.

The most recent application earlier this year comprised 5 sheets of paper

I followed all the requirements on the uk visa website and the application was refused on the grounds that we had not demonstrated that we had a proper relationship and my wifes bank a/c did not show enough funding to support her if something went wrong. I had enclosed our translated marriage papers that had been certified by the MFA and a bank a/c with a balance of £18,000 along with a letter from me stating I would be the sponsor. When the application was refused I was gobsmacked. We then had to go to an agency who resubmitted the application the same as your first one one with all that information in that the website tells you not to include!! The visa was then granted. I cannot show you the first refusal as the agency kept it but I am telling the truth and think it still all depends on the person dealing with the application. My wife also had a telephone interview and she also answered all the questions correctly, even though some were very intrusive.

We also applied to take our niece with us and got permission from her mother certified and translated at the amphur. On the UK visa website it states only one parent or gaurdians permission is needed this was confirmed by the agency we used and also at trendy but the application was refused because we did not have the fathers permission, even though he does not live with her.

So although there are "guidelines" it does not mean they stick to them

    Totally unnecessary and absolutely pointless.

That money could have been withdrawn the next day.

In an application last week a friend showeed no money in the bank and no income other than 10,000 Baht per month 'housekeeping' from her partner. Her sponsor/partner evidenced GBP 200,000 in a bank account, they were not going to challenge the financial aspect of the application.

It may be totally unnecessary and absolutely pointless to you ( and me)  but that is what we had to do after our first application was refused to obtain the visa

This is exactly what the guidelines tell you NOT to do.  I sudden surge of cash into an account is likely to be seen for what it is - a distortion of normal account activity designed to inflate the bank balance solely for the purposes of the visa application.

As said, as you are sponsor the applicant doesn't need to show any money -  your sponsor letter (and the online application) should make it clear that you are covering ALL costs of the visit - and you have evidence to support that.

Guidelines also say dont include photos or any proof of ownership of motor vehicles, but we had to

  10. As always comments are speculation without seeing the exact wording. Ideally post the refusal notice, having obscured any identifying details.

Sounds typical of the way UKVI staff work now. They will pounce on anything they can to refuse a visa so if this is the only reason then reapply but make sure information is given regarding the father. If he is AWOL make sure they know this! If he is part of her life, get written permission!

Unlike some here, I am quite convinced ECO's get brownie points for refusals! Complaining will probably get you nowhere, nor will a review. Reapply with further information unless the ECO missed this information.

We had stated that the parents had a turbulent relationship and that is why she lived with us. I agree with you about the brownie points, this is her second refusal, the first one was because my wife was also refused. Why did they not give this as a reason then.? Why also publish what is required and then go against it? Will post the refusal when I have sight of it
  11. Just got our applications back for UK visit visa for my wife and our niece who lives with us. My wifes visa was granted but the visa for our niece was refused on the grounds that we did not have permission from her father. We included a consent form notorised at the local amphur from her mother and translated into english. On the UK visa website it clearly states permission from PARENT OR GAURDIAN.I feal we have complied with these instructions so what grounds do they have to refuse and could we complain and receive the funds back?

  12. Thanks JONCI for the "Wiki" suggestion.

    I have a KR42 (aka cs918, rk3188) Android box.10mps True ADSL in Bangkok.

I set up Kodi via instructions I found on YT and it seemed to work OK at first...I was able to watch a few recent movies clear and without buffering. Then it went to hell. Can't get anything to play no matter what I selcted, even the things that had worked before.. I really can't seem to get my head around all the terminology..."Builds", "Ad-ons", "Repos", "A"side.."B" side ect. I just don't have a clear picture of how it all works.

I think in trying to correct my problems, I may have messed things up more. I really don't have a clue what I'm doing.

Would I be best starting over? Do a "Factory Reset" of my box and try again from square one rather than trying to tinker with what I have? If anybody can point me to a really clear, non technical, step by step tutorial, I'd be really grateful. Most of the ones I've looked at always seem to leave some key bit of information out or some menu isn't the same or they just assume you know something that you don't. I will take a good look at that "wiki" and see if I can learn something.

BTW..what is a good "Ad-on" or whatever it is for Thai TV?

No need to do a factory reset of your box. Just go into settings, kodi, then clear data. This will not erase kodi from your box but will give you a clear platform to start again. May I suggest installing the "ares wizard" there are many builds on there that will update themselves or you can use the addon section and choose your own addons instead of installing the whole repo

  13. wow WW. that is very in-depth. The last time my wife went to hand in documents for her visa, she also was asked some odd questions but not as many as you. What really annoyed me was the chap doing the interview asked why she wasn't using a visa agent? Whats it got to do with them?

Can I ask you about the letter from the amphur for your niece? What was it exactly and did you get it translated to English?

It is a standard letter that basically gives you temporary gaurdianship for travelling abroad. The childs parent attends the amphur with you and it is recorded in a book there. The letter is then printed off and the mother and the officer at the amphur signs it and it is then stamped. Had to get it translated, 500 baht. Thai immigration also require sight of this letter before the child is allowed to leave the country.

Forgot to ask, did you use translation service inside the visa building or go elsewhere, just dont want the wife to get ripped off.
I used the translation service at trendy, there is no where near where we live . Cost me 500 baht for 1 page, a bit over the top but it was easier for me

  15. Hi Willie wolf. Thanks for that. Does that mean I do my wife's application online and then start another application for each child? And are the supporting documents really just the same as previous applications I have done for the wife? Also, I take it you only book one appointment for all three visas. Or is it best to book 3 appointments. I wish I could just phone them from the UK and ask all this.

What i did was create an account and fill in the application for the wife then using the same account clicked on apply for someone else and fill that form in It is basically the same questions. The annoying part is in each form you have to state who is travelling with you.

Regarding the supporting documents, the home office website states you can use the same ones for under 18 as those that the adult is using, where applipical. When we actually submitted the forms at the trendy building they wrote on my wifes application that she had only submitted one set and got her to sign a statement sayi g this was correct.

We did book two appointments to be on the safe side but they dealt with them together, although they did put each application in seperate wallets.

When you read all the info they have supposedly made things simpler, but I was not convinced!!

I have done another post about the phone call my wife recieved today, have a read and see what you make of it.

    Good luck

  16. Am in the process of applying for a uk visit visa for my wife and our niece. Having gone through quite a few posts on here i came to the conclusion there were three things to satisfy the ECO, genuine reason, affordability and reason to return. I thought we did this by stating we were going to the uk to visit my family who my wife had never met then do some tourist things, visit to London etc. I stated that I would meet all costs involved and enclosed a savings ac statement showing £18,000 that the money would come from to fund the trip. Reason to return was that i live here on a retirement extention of stay in a house that my wife owns. We have a letter of consent notorized at the amphur from the nieces mother. The visit is to take place during the school holidays and the child must return to school.

Today my wife gets a call asking about the application and i thought some of the questions were a little bit too intrusive and a bit over the top:

How long has she known me? How long have we been married? Where did we meet? Why is there a big age gap between us. Why did we wait for five years to get married? Do we plan to have a baby together? Do we plan to start a business here or in the uk? Do we plan to live in the uk in the future?

Where did i get the funds from in the savings acc?

Do we live together? Does she have any children(this question was also in the application form). Why is he not travelling with us? Does she know anyone in the uk in case she got into any difficulties? What about the nieces mother and father do they know she is going where do they work? Why does the niece not live with them?

We also enclosed our marriage certificate that had been translated into English and certified at the MFA.and they still asked when we were married.

This questioning went on for about half an hour and my wife, being Thai, aswered them all where as i think i would have probably told them to mind their own ruddy business to some of the questions.

So we now have a nervy wait to see what the outcome is, just hope its worth it.

  17. Hi bob and ramie. I will be doing this soon too. I have that wife and her 2 children. Does that mean 3 online forms to fill in? Also, where it says who are you traveling with, do you put the other 2 people on each form each time? Do the children have to go to Bangkok also to hand documents over?

I am in the process of applying for a tourist visa for my wife and our niece. We had to fill in the form for each applicant and stated that supporting documents be used for both applicants.

Both applicants had to attend the appointment so as to provide the biometrics. Also take a photocopy of each persons passport info page as this is stamped as your reciept to pick the passports up if you dont use the postal service
