    A couple of points:-

    1) My wife has spoken again to our previous book keeper who in turn spoke with the accountant/auditor for our previous company who confirmed that if personal income is below the taxable threshold it is not a requirement to submit a tax return and no TIN will therefore be issued.

    2) As I have an ATM card with BKK Bank becoming due for renewal my wife telephoned the bank who confirmed that they definitely do not require a TIN for ATM renewal, only a/c passbook and passport. It would seem, as is typical in Thailand, that different branches will make up their own requirements as they see fit!

This does not surprise me. Just like the practice when trying to open an account. Diff. rules at every branch.

The request wasn't odd at the time as suddenly a TIN was requested by banks in EU countries where we hold accounts. Austria automatically deducts 35% tax @ source from income as we are not resident or citizens.

If there is government regulation that demands the TIN there is nothing the bank can do... However I do not know if current regulation demands the TIN. With the upcoming of e-wallets with fiat money in the near future in TH for falangs I do no longer see the need for an old school bank account.

Each & every bank in diff countries who are part of this tax collection scheme now asks for your TIN. Try Europe when you go there next. Ask a Singapore bank.

You will almost certainly have noticed them before but just not paid attention because they weren't important at the time. They are all over the place, there are several in mini malls here in the North, also in business parks and smaller rows of shops. Tax, accountancy and book keeping all go together so you could try asking a business owner also.

Thanks. Will keep my eyes open.

No, the tightening up is aimed at well off Thais with overseas earnings.Expatriates (or those affected) have been caught in the slipstream and were not the primary objective.Expats with work permits invariably pay Thai tax anyway

    Very unlikely at least initially

They won't.As you note it's an honour system but one would be foolish not to maintain proper records.

    You are probably right.

As long as no proof of tax paid is needed  for immigration

I'll cross post this for better exposure:

    On a tax related matter.....

I am aware of some on and offshore financial advisors who are using the new tax rules as a means to promote their sales activities. Typically these involve videos and education in the new tax rules, accompanied by offers to assist with tax return preparation, at a fee. Some of these services are quite expensive compared to average costs for similar services of a tax CPA/company. The ultimate goal however of some of these businesses is to sell financial services such as insurance, life, health, investments etc.

A simple tax return should not require much assistance at all and can almost certainly be done without assistance or with the help of advice from members in these threads and from the local Revenue office. More complicated or involved tax returns may require assistance from a tax CPA, as far as I can see, the cost of this should be well under 10k Baht but will of course depend on the size of the firm and its location since charges vary dramatically nationwide.

I would strongly recommend that, if you intend to use a tax consultant/CPA, for tax advice, that you employ one that has offices you can visit and discuss matters face to face and that you ask for recommendations and also shop around, just as you might for anything else you buy.

Good advice. Not sure how to find one.

Bangkok would be more I think.

But guys please TELL me how long you actually have to STAY there for dental implant treatment.

    Is it 6 weeks?

The pin needs to set/heal. Some heal quicker than others. About 4 months later they can start with the crown work.  All depends on the implant system used.

I still live in Germany. My German dentist works together with a dental laboratory in Turkey. Very good work. But if I live in Thailand, I would rather have it done in Thailand in case problems arise

The dental lab needs to be where the dentist is. If any adjustments are required how long does it take to get it sorted out? Btw, there shld be no problems once the implant is done. It must fit when it gets put in. Having seen a BBC docu about dental work in Turkey I'd find another dentist who uses a German lab.

Can help you with a dentist in Bkk but not Pattaya.

I agree with your comments. It seems to me, Thailand finally recognized there are lots of expats living in Thailand that have not been paying any income taxes on monies earned overseas, like those working in Saudi or the digital nomads working in Thailand. I don't know how successful Thaialnd will be collecting those taxes since it is by self-reporting on the honor system. Will the banks report all remittances to the Thai Revenue Dept? How will the Thai RD know how much someone brings into the country either by bank xfers, ATM withdrawals, etc.? My guess is that many expats will just continue not reporting their incomes.

My husband recently needed a new ATM card. BKK Bank asked for his Thai TIN.

  9. There is no one fits all implant. Work and consequently price depends on what the state of your gums require. If you don't have enouhj bone depth you need a sinus lift. This requires special surgery, same if you need bone implant before you can put in a tooth implant.

Your implant may be cheaper here. Not necessarily same quality. I made this experience.

Ah, no tax credit with your home country? How much would you have paid on this same income to your home country? Nothing? Well, congrats. However, welcome to the interconnected world, where you now pay taxes to someone, for services of some kind rendered. This is why the OECD is re-writing its model tax treaties, no longer just to prevent double taxation -- but to prevent "no double no taxation." (Google it)

Hey, tax havens are disappearing is this interconnected world. But as a citizen of a country (US) where I still have to pay taxes (but no double taxation with Thailand, per DTA), I have no sorrow for those tax skates. And a lot of other countries still tax home country incomes. That Thailand, at the beginning of this fire drill on what's what on taxes said: "Show a home country tax return, and then don't worry about filing a tax return with Thailand," maybe that is what it will take. Sadly, no further word on this -- but it sure would put many worries to rest. And I bet we see this as the final word, for matters of simplicity. But, if you currently pay no country any taxes (and have no tax form to wave at RD) -- and  may now pay taxes to Thailand: Welcome aboard. Hopefully, a pot hole will be fixed with your money -- and save a tax complaining farang from a Harley headache.

Don't forget in EU countries they deduct 35% tax at source from investment income. You can claim some back by doing income tax return. It isn't that we don't all pay no tax when not filing an income tax return in a home country.

I'm running. Moving to another SE-Asian country first week of April. This after 15 years living in Thailand, spending approximately 2.1 million Baht a year (about 70% of my foreign income) in this country (multiple BMWs, Ducatis, Hondas, not to mention local girls, restaurants, nightlife, golf!)

After the new tax rules were announced last year I have completely stopped spending money in this country. For golf I now only go to the local navy driving range and pay 20 Baht for a tray of 40 balls instead of thousands to pay courses where Thais get to play for a fraction of the price, not kidding, it's the hidden truth.

There is zero chance I will ever pay the equivalent of 1 Baht tax to a country which gives me zero in return and where the only thing it gives me is a shocking amount of discrimination as a Farang. A month ago I was sent to Malaysia by my company for a 1 week assignment. What a wake up call. The people there (including government officials and police) so genuinly sincere and friendly. Another stratosphere compared to Thailand.

Bye Thailand (I recommend those of you reading this carefully consider if Thailand is still worth it)

How long can you stay in Malaysia tax free? 178 days I guess.

I cannot find a travel forum, so please move as required.

I was a true fan of Qatar Airways pre-pandemic, but since then they have gradually deteriorated in every respect. My latest attempt was to use my Avios points on their website with their partner airline, Japan Airlines. You request a booking through their website and it gets acknowledged. They claim they will respond within 48 hours. They didn't the first time around, so I rang their Doha office and was informed the dates (in May) were not available, so I asked them to advise me which dates were available. They gave me them. I had to then go back online to rebook, and was asked to call Doha back with the acknowledgement reference ID, which I did within a few minutes. The answer came back "dates not available". So I thought this silly game could go on forever, I'll just trip off to their office in Exchange Square, Rachadapisek. Arrived there and was informed that walk-ins for customers no longer available. OK, my fault for reading an out-of-date website with the office details and opening times. Was given a Thai number to ring, which I did. The rep informed me of "wide open" dates to book my reward flights with their partner airline and they would respond within 72 hours. That deadline passed today, so I rang them again. They now say response with 96 hours, but as it's Friday, by Tuesday at the earliest.

This is a joke service. Or more likely, reward points on Qatar are literally pointless.

So I will book the Business Class tickets on JAL and pay the USD3,500 (for 2)...BKK to HND.

Thinking how I might instead use my Avios points on Qatar, I checked their website for flights on their airline. The use of points is bonkers. A round trip flight on Business to Madrid is 300,000 points plus THB14,000 or some such BS. I've lost track. Booking without points is only about THB120,000, but flights are nearly all sold out for May.

So, I shall continue to live the life of a hermit, and stay put.

In all my years of travelling I have rarely had success with mileage points, which must surely be the biggest load of nonsense. But Qatar are taking their disdain of usage of reward points to a new level.

OK, rant over. I'm having a much cheaper excursion, daily from my flat to my pool, as per usual.

This is an experience I had with them when I tried to book with points plus cash. They would only allow me to book economy. Now I use Etihad. Ticket was slightly cheaper.

Anyone managed to obtain a tax certificate from Thai RD that they have been a tax resident in Thailand in a given year? I received dividends on German shares and was charged 25% withholding tax instead of 15% and now need to prove that I was a thai tax resident in 2022. This problem arises in a lot of circumstances where one receives dividends from non Thai shares and is charged a higher withholding tax then is stipulated in the DBA. Usually the DBA rate is 15% and more is withheld at source.

IMHO there is a possibilty that this certificate will usually only be issued if you had paid taxes in TH, which I did not. Can someone corroborate? I understand there might be a distinction between certificates one being a tax certificate and the other being a tax resident certificate. To my understanding German IRS should accept both.

I can obviously prove that I have been resident in Thailand for more then 180 days with passport stamps.

Any recommendation on the use of an agency to obtain said tax certificate without having paid income tax. In the past income tax was only levied on income remitted in the same year, which I did not.

I am currently not in Thailand so cannot apply in person.

    Thanks!

I cannot comment on Thailand. I have applied for Quellensteuer tax refund from Germans with tax cert. from Austria where I lived during lockdowns. Submitted in 2021. Never heard from then. Sent it off registered. They received it. But I have no reference that I could even complain to them. Don't expect any money back from them.

Well it was on the cards.  I'm not particularly worried.  Don't break the law so what's to worry about?

I'm sure there will be some additional inconveniences come extension of stay time, but that's nothing new.

Once yr ext. of stay willfully comes under the heading  "why be difficult if it can be impossible" you may see the issue less relaxed.

You can take my comment or leave it. Your sight is the most important thing for me, & I can tell you for sure there are good doctors and not so good doctors for sure. I had both cataracts removed at the same time and replaced with the best lens 2 days ago. I also chose to have it with General Anesthetic. If you move your eye around while they are doing it they will inject under your eye towards the back with anesthetic to stop this. With general anesthetic this will not happen. The anesthetist spoke to me first & I was able to tell him somthing that happened in the past so we both ended up confindent. I was told 90 mins to 2 hours. Before the operation my Head of the eye section for 16y would be my Doctor for the operation she said after she has done the first eye she will walk out, change her clothes & scrub up again & all fresh sterilized instruments will be used for the other eye. After waking up my eye felt prickly but within 30 mins it had gone, I stayed in ICU for just over an hour. Yes I was told cos of being put to sleep I need to stay in over night. My food for dinner salmon, breakfast I chose without doubt the best ommlet of my life, Ramsay could have cooked it & early lunch a chicken burger with fries. Everybody spoke english even the nurses & all was always explained. I have to wear glasses for a week to protect from dust, polution, water & I have to have between 8am & 10Pm sometimes 2 sometime 4 drops every 2 hours, I wife takes care of me good. I can now read number plates good, my tv is brighter, the colour pops & I can read small subtitles.  It was at Phuket Bangkok Hospital Phuket Town. My Head of Dept Sergeon says my sight will improve more each day, its already WOW to what is was like. This was my 5th operation under general anesthetic at this hospital. I am not a rich person & I chose not to have insurance, I will be 71 in May. This is the bit you want to know.....TOTAL COST for everything, including 8 bottles of drops for my eyes (you do not use your right eye drops in your left eye) the hospital is very very careful about cross contamination for the first week,

260,000 baht. for good vision, peace of mind, service, hopefully a one time thing. I have done the right thing for me. The sergeon is a lovely feamale Doctor with perfect english skills & the best bed side manner as they sah, she does tell you everything. I can't thank all who were infolved enough. It will be chocolates all around in a few days time.

Wow, what a price. Costs less at top Bkk hospitals. General anaesthetic is a last resort as you are required to follow instruction for eye movement. You cannot do it when you are out. You may have had a sedation.
