The Mars company is still privately owned, add is Walmart. You don't get much bigger than those companies

If you are looking for a good B&B in Phuket (if you don't want to spend too much money) I can highly recommend Villareal Heights in Kata. Phil, the owner there, is extremely helpful and will give you great tips on what to see and do while you and your family are in Phuket.

In reply to Barney R the soi is 33/1 and the pub is the robin hood

Skout is supposed to be great for BKK; my single mates in their 20's used it and they where fighting girls off with a stick

Londoner on a Wednesday night when they have a 2 for 1 promotion is also a great place. Lots of farang/thai/everything gets there. Yes there are some hookers but you can work it out pretty quick who they are if you have just a little bit of social awareness.

Seenspace on Thonglor soi 13 has some nice bars and restaurants where 'good girls' (I assume you just mean non hookers who are not looking for a sponsor?) hang out. Pretty much any of the bars/restaurants in Thonglor will. You don't need to limit your search to Thonglor though (although admittedly there are a lot less hookers there I guess than the bars on say, soi 11).
Gyms are great as are sports clubs. Southerners sports club has touch football (mixed) and netball (female) as well as rugby and cricket. Having said that you will probably be more likely to be introduced to a girl than meet a girl as most thai girls still don't play as much sport as girls do back home in the west.
If you are in your 20's and speak thai though the easiest way is just to go out and talk to lots and lots of girls. It is purely a numbers game. So that is on you not the location.

Try the app Skout, my mates (who are single and in the mid 20's to early 30's age bracket) have met and dated a lot of thai girls on that

He actually had a long term farang wife; came to Thailand, hooked up with a girl, got robbed of a small fortune by the kiwi, left his wife and two children and moved here. Then he kills a guy. Not exactly a sympathetic figure.
I read the book and thought it was a self serving pile of dog crap, by a guy who continually came up with excuses as why nothing was his fault. Frankly I did not feel sorry for him (and I am not usually one of the cynical kind who thinks everyone deserves what they get) and felt that he really did not learn anything from all his experiences.

I have driven that road many many times and it is very curvy. If he was doing 60 and came around a bend he would not be able to stop in time. Then again most of the times I have driven it people have been absolutely motoring along there, well over 100 kmh. It really does need lights with the amount of traffic it gets going to the airport at night, particularly with the limousine services that go well over 100 kmh+ there

The comments section was hilarious; people saying Australia is just as corrupt as Thailand (because we have corruption in Australia therefore it must be at the same level).

Go to Roxy bar in Phuket town; loads of teachers there that you can mingle with and network. They have a quiz every Wednesday if I am not mistaken. Add it on the FB page and you can get more details

Have flown in to Thailand many many times without an onward ticket/return ticket/visa. The only time I have ever had trouble was with Qantas, Jetstar (same thing really) and BA (they also use Qantas check in staff at Sydney). Had to book a fully refundable ticket with another airline that I cancelled as soon as I touched down in BKK.
Singapore Air, Thai airways, Emirates, Air Asia, Tiger and some other airlines never said a word to me about it

Also I found that because Phuket is so spread out (it is basically a bunch of different villages) you tend to travel around a bit more than in Pattaya, where things tend to be more central. That is on top of the public transport issues

Be more direct, western women like that more than thai women. Thai women, I have found, like their boyfriends to be sweeter and much more attentive than western girls.

Related (sort of) does anyone know what it will cost in Thailand? Wondering if I should buy in Australia and bring back with me so want to compare prices

I know a few couples; it does not seem that uncommon in BKK. Most of the thai guys are reasonably well educated (either overseas or at one of the 'better' schools here). No one thinks anything of it, the guys are pretty much the same as any farang guy (they all speak very good English)

Just got one yesterday myself; same as you not sure how they got my email. But there is no way I would invest with someone just because of a website & meeting. Had a quick scan of them on the internet and all I could find was their website, no actual information in any other way about them, which sent up massive red flags to me. The tone and cadence of their writing made it seem (to me anyway) that they where English, but that might just be because I have heard and read so many horror stories about pommy wide boys running financial scams here in Bangkok

Hi burgers are pretty good, the meat is super juicy and he obviously uses good ingredients. His bun was a little bit too soft for me, I prefer a denser bun. But this is just personal opinion. For the price I think you would be pretty hard to find a burger that good in BKK.
Are the burgers at Fatty's as good as people say on here? I have not made it over to there yet but I keep hearing good things about it so I might have to make the trek out of Sukhumvit.
Ate at Sweet Pista on Soi 31 a couple of times, the burger there is very good. A pretty simple burger (patty, lettuce, tomato) but all of it well done and the bun itself is fantastic. The owners sister makes all the bread and buns herself

Wow that was a decent whack when he got him on the ground; you could actually hear the thwack of it really clearly.

Soi 38 in Bangkok, not because the vendors are the best but because there are so many on their that are very good. My favourite is the one half way up on the right hand side where they do the beef soup with blood in it (can't remember the thai name at the moment)

Because Queensland understand what wins in Origin. It's not necessarily the most talented players, it's the guys who will dig down and keep going. Also the spine of Q'land (hooker, half & fullback) are all great players who play together for Melbourne, with Smith and Slater being 2 all time greats.
Having picked Mitchell Pierce, again, to play for the team when he has never been up to the level of Origin is also ridiculous. He is simply not good enough. There is no way NSW should have lost last night with the amount of possession they had in Q'lands 30m. Simply poor execution by the halves. Hopefully next year NSW dumps Pierce for good and lets Adam Reynolds play (he is the next great halfback in Australian RL). I am a blues supporter btw

in Australia $2 an avocado (60 baht) is about the normal price sadly

Depends what you want, and how much you want to spend. Patong is the biggest place, craziest, most stuff happening. Rawai and Nai Harn are a bit quieter, but then again I left 2 1/2 years ago and they where developing quickly so might have changed a lot in that time. Kata was sort of in between them in that it was developed but not as much as Patong.
If you want to relax I would say stay in Rawai or Nai Harn, hire a bike, go explore the island, see what you like and what you don't. If you are going for a couple of weeks only book a few nights then see which area you like and find a hotel there. There are plenty of places to stay, you won't miss out that is for sure.
Enjoy
