Expat Tax Twists in Thailand: Navigating the New Landscape in 2024
maddermax replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I wish you would stop with this article as it is only causing panic. These laws have been in place for a long time but never enforced as I believe the Government realises that this would 'kill the goose that laid the golden egg'. Even though they do not get any income from taxing us expats they benefit in many other ways. -
The Thais will love you when you come to spend money as a tourist, hence the smiles. However, live here and they no longer like you because expats have the money, houses and nice cars. They tend to forget that it was many of us expats who were donating money to enable the hotels to give food to those long lines of unemployed starving Thais. It was expat spending which basically kept this place afloat. If they do anything to disturb the status quo they will slowly kill the goose that laid the golden egg.

Squirrels or 'tree rats as they are affectionately known are the worst enemy of all garden wild life. We have bulbuls that regularly nest in our shrubs but the tree rats find them just as the chicks are ready to fledge. Anybody know how to get rid of the squirrels?

I don't see Hong Kong or Guangdong on the list. I believe they would top the list. -
Special Feature: What happens when a foreigner dies in Thailand???
maddermax replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I have had a couple of friends die here Pattaya who lived on their own. They weren't found for a week by friends. The police then came in and cleared our all personal belongings as there was no immediately visible last will and testament. In one case, the relatives came from the USA to show the police the will and recover his belongings. However, they never recovered his war medals which had disappeared. In the other case, the Government took possession as nobody came to claim the body. If you have any property in Thailand it is essential that you make a Thai will and ensure that the provisions are included in any other overseas wills. -
Lack of both education/training and enforcement. There is no training video for motorcycle drivers when applying for a licence and the police are clearly ignoring such infringements. Begs the question whether they will actually start deducting points for using a phone when the system comes into play next year.

PM seeks Public Cooperation To Address Road Safety
maddermax replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It basically comes down to education and enforcement. You need to educate the public how to drive properly then you need to enforce any legislation to penalise offenders. If the press reports the results of the enforcement the public should get the message about driving properly. However, there appears to be no way of educating the public. Even the video shown when you renew your licence does not relate to motorcycle drivers. Need I say anything about the police enforcing the laws??!!
