  1. I once took a Filipino friend to Doi Suthep. I told them to not say a word and just follow the non-paying Thai's. I showed my Thai drivers license and was also allowed in for free. I guess depending on the place, they will not check to see if an Asian looking person is Thai or not. To be honest though, Chinese tourists do stand out like saw thumbs as they are usually in large crowds leaving a tour bus plus the large cameras around their necks.

  2. I just got back from there. I got the 1 year multiple entry visa. They DID ask to see the original marriage certificate for a minute for a quick glance. Also the processing times was 2 days not 1.

The visa is issued the next day isn't it?

You pickup your passport the next afternoon after the day you apply.

I was there first time - without any problem -and i was shoked becuase they gave me visa with passport same day smile.png

i came morning about 8-9 am - and get the passpor (same day) about 4 pm, so i was shoked and every one there too

but i dont know it was one time only or now it is there all the time like this smile.png

When I went this April it was a 2 day process. I have not heard of that changing and I am sure Ubonjoe would be the first to let everyone know if this was now the norm. Maybe when you went it fell on a certain day before a holiday or there were few applications but a 1 day process would be great if it was re-instated.

  3. "I just literally emptied the parcel that came from England showing all the leaflets and wot not and asked her does this look like a fake passport"

You were lucky. Had you done that to me I would have shown you the door.

Well it was a good thing, as you are not an immigration officer...............and so your opinion does not matter to me. I got the stamp and that's that. I did not throw the contents at the officer, I simple placed all the items received onto her desk. Her boss accepted they were all good and that was it.

  4. When my old passport and new passport arrived at Trendy building as I was not in BKK. My sister in law picked it up and sent it on to me. I did not have the letter from the British Embassy but I still decided to go to Nan Immigration to get the stamps transferred. The Immigration officer did mention a letter but I just literally emptied the parcel that came from England showing all the leaflets and wot not and asked her does this look like a fake passport. After she asked a senior officer, she transferred the stamps and it was all over. I guess it depends on the office and the officers just having common sense. I mean, would a forged passport come with supplement information from the British passport office. Maybe I was lucky but I do not live near to BKK so I decided to take the risk and I had no problems.

    Good luck to you!

  5. I have a non-o re-entry visa from Savanakhet based on marriage so I get 90 days per crossing. This is now my second time to this crossing and the first time that I heard that they only accept Thai baht. For me it was no problem and luckily the same for the guy before me. At first he offered a $10 dollar note but was denied, so his wife found the Thai funds to pay. It is a reasonable quiet crossing point for foreigners that can check-in/out of Myanmar but best to have a heads up. NO MORE $$$$

  6. Not sure if this has been covered already but I thought I would just write this to let people know from my experience today. I went to Mae sot to cross over into Myawaddy. Again I had no problems but the guy before would have had problems as he was going to pay with American dollars. The immigration officer told him that they now ONLY accept baht. He had the money in baht to pay so not a big problem. I am guessing this is coming into force at all Myanmar borders, so make sure you are carrying baht to pay for the visa otherwise it could be a problem.

    I hope this info helps.

    Cheers!!

  7. Perhaps you should read the thread. As the OP has a valid visa till April 2016 (after changing it 2 times) there is no need for an extension. Neither will he in any case get one doing a border run to Cambodia as mentioned. So I assume he meant the 90 days re-entry.

Anyway, you will figure it out, if he does not change the input data again smile.png. What still puzzles me is how he could get a work permit till September, when his visa is only valid till April

The work permit is linked to his contact with the school, not the visa. So if his contact states starts Oct 2015 - Sep 2016 that is what will be stated in his WP. Obviously his entry visa will have expired by then so he will need to get a new one out of country as he does not meet the requirements in-country. If you are on a Non-B visa with a WP then that is a different story, they are linked. He is on a Non-O so a different kettle of fish.

  8. Grow some lemon grass in pots and place them around your place. Mozzies can't stand the stuff. It's more natural and your wife can use it as well for cooking. I must be a mozzy as I can not stand the taste of lemon grass. Good luck and keep away from the chemicals as much as you can.

  9. I had the same thing happen to me at Nan immigration. I was making my first Non-O marriage application. When we were about all wrapped up the IO informed my wife that I should have 3,000 baht ready in an envelope for when the IO's did the house check. I did as asked but I was way from happy about doing it. Plus the fact I had to go all the way back to their office 30 days later to get the stamp, so more money and time just spent just to get the stamp these visiting IO's should be able to do when they are happy that everything is good. This is Thailand's goose that lays the golden egg, they don't won't us here but know that without us they will be bankrupt. The problem is some of the IO's just get greedy and want more, now look at what happened at the Cambodian border and what some ones greed has caused.

  10. I remember I put my family address in England on my form plus made a copy of the yellow house book. I did not have the copy of the house book translated but they accepted it with all my other documents. It was sent by VFS and was back to be picked up in 3 weeks. My sister in law was able to pick mine up as I had wrote a letter with her details, she showed her ID card and that was it. She then forwarded it on to my address in the north, I really did not want to have to go back to BKK in a hurry as I hate the place.

  11. Give a months notice just to be nice, most people don't. Contracts here in Thailand really are not worth the paper they are wrote on. If you are planning to leave the country by air, you would not have a problem anyway, only at a land crossing you would have a problem as the WP is still in affect. It is best to keep your employers happy and give them notice as they could turn nasty and terminate your WP without you knowing and this invalidates your Non B visa. Everyday you stay in Thailand once the WP is cancelled is 500 baht

  12. If you are nearer to Mukdahan/ Savannakhet go there. It is less busy and a very quiet place. If you are closer to Nong Khai/ Vientiane then go there. To be honest I actually preferred Savannakhet, as it was not so busy apart from collection time for the passports. The staff are friendly at the consulate but be prepared for the Laotian visa horde getting their Thai visa's at the consulate and then basically bullying their way onto the bus over the bridge.

  13. If a nuclear power plant comes to Thailand I am out and dragging my Thai family with me. Jesus!! I think they would struggle with wind turbines and solar power. They have already managed to mismanaged hydro power by not taking care and hold a festival that chucks millions of gallons of water away before the dry season. I wonder how next years Songkran festival will go? If the Thai people really cared or even have the brains to think beyond "the now", a private family Songkran at the grandparents house would still be OK. Not the 3-10 days of craziness that usually happens here in the LOS.
