  1. seems extremely easy to me; Go to PO all by yourself and ASK. There will be someone who speaks/understands enough of the angkrit to help you out. There MAY be at the mo restrictions either due to corona or to max. weight/size. BTW: noone around here used these things like ounces etc-its all in the grams, by the 100. Perhaps the site of ThaiPost may even already have the answer.

In general there are no more old-fashioned things like stamps you glue on: when they accept it, they put on the label with the amount due and look after it they cancel immediately. There may be the extra option for inscribed mail, for a little more certainty-in the end you get a receipt that receiver has accepted. But dk how that works for Japan.

  2. Oh dear there we go again, even from a platinum member.

In NORMAL times online bookings to HH ONLY open 2=3 days before for a fairly obvious reason even Brits en OZzies may be able to understand: priority is given to long distance=overnight pax. These trains all run onward to the far south, even to the Malay border. Only any left-over seats will go on sale later. And as you may remember from comp.lesson nr 1: it will only spit out what someone has ever put in.

Also in the last times before the pandemic most pax on bus to HH were coming fom Swampy-direct on the Bell or so bus.

  3. The AIRport is an old US-airforcebase from VN war and is some 60/70 kms away from ´downtown´. One of the least used local airports and =doublecheck if they indeed are served again by air.

BoKoSo buses are running again, on a more limited schedule and AFAIK any chiangwat has its own measures and methods to control it-or not. Best is to ask locals on the many other local fora.

Oh-you made a serious sin for many TV eager users-you forgot the iron horse on that rolling open air museum called SRT=train. Many will climb on their pens (sorry, its online here) to put that under your nose.

  4. No, the boat is only runing weekends on a regular base, if at all in the current times. In fact I thought it was suspended already long time ago even weekends. Its mainly aimed at bringing visitors to some places and wats along the canal and not that much for Min=muslimburi and perhaps even NC. Youre far, far quicker there to go by various vans, f.e. from Vict.Monument or Mall/Bangkapi. In fact I also suppose on normal weekdays they need all the fleet they have to run the normal service.

How long do you live here? Never still noted that such things are never formal, just ask along the place and sooner or later someone will turn up and offer their services/boats/whatever. That is IF its nowadays even possible to do that. There may very well be dams/dikes/sluices/low bridges preventing it or needing to walk around them. Most likely the water will also be more waste dump as navigatable. But very often near/just off many of these so called ´floating markets´ there will be some boattrip on offer on the days it opens.

  5. Amazing things happen here in Th. Since just a few yrs its all in computers, those magic things that keep track of you and your history in TH. Once you´ve reached your 6th entry, a yellow sign will also flash so the IO may ask mor questions.

This should not come as a big surprise to OZzies, as OZzieland does the same. Except they cannot have overland entries.

  6. If you come in by train, get off at bangSue which is adjacent to brand new und. Constr main big station and besides that is the Mochit Bus station. Take MRT Bg Sue-Mochit/old. That saves 30 mins and a lot of hassle with the preying tuk+taximafia.

SuperRich : there are 3 of them, blue, white/green and orange. the orange now has small offices all over town (mostly aiming the places where Chinese used to come) and BUYing foreign money can only be done at their main big offices: beside BigC Rajprasong and along Silom/Chong Nonsri. Vasu is on Sukhumvit near soi 11. MUST show real passpt before!

It should as such also be possible at most real Thai banks,  but only to the amount they happen to have in stock. This should even be possible in Nongh Khai too-but with that risk.

Frankly: if you only need like 50/100 US$-you can use THB too for what you mention, at a lesser rate, but if you are the dumbo who uses taxiś to get to SR you loose more as you gain by a better rate.

  7. In the Pattaya forum there has been a recent post: Hourly VANs run PTY-Chanthaburi (bus stat.) for 200 bt, replacing the former big buses, taking some 3-3,5 hrs and cost 200 bt.

There are very frequent vans Trat-Chant. BS from several places in Trat town (no need to go to busstat. there-its far out of town and hardly served).

Former big bus that ran not often are no more.

If you stay in Trat the eve before, ask at accomm, they may know of perhaps direct vans (mostly empty space with borderrunners), or perhaps from the Koh Chang ferry port.

  8. Very few, and if at all van and probably not even from the near deserted busstation there. If you stay there before, ask at accomm. and have it arranged-most likely a van for borderrunners with some empty space.

If that is not wanted, a little more chances from Chanthaburi (many vans to there), but best IMHO is to take any of the better BKK buses untill where they meet the Main Sukhumvit/Pty rd. near Cholburi and change there. But with all the new rds overthere I am not sure how exactly they route them nowadays.

In the days when there were still more big buses, one had to change at Chantab then Rayong and sometimes even Sattaheep, slow trip but mostly short connections and high frequency. You use most of old Sukhumvit rd then, the faster BKK buses run via the new rd/Klaeng. But these buses have nearly all been replaced by the vans.

  9. The secret about these fares is that is not a flat rate anywhere, but it goes in sections, each of it cost 10 bt. So it all depends how far he goes exactly. You did not tell any of that.

IT can even mean that if you board just before the red lights and get off after it turned left just after, you hit 2 sections and have to pay 20 bt. As a very simple rule of thumb: any turn means one enters a new section. But this is a bit over-simplifying.

  10. Bus 66 BMTA does NOT serve Taksin, nor anywhere near. It starts SaiThaiMai, runs along Pinklao and then goes north and over the old bridge, then up north SamSen rd. and further away. Passes near TaoPoon MRT.

For quickest combo; BTS to Mochit and then the van. Cheaper the 52 bus (has now the new blue AC Smartbuses). In Peaks the 166 expressway-bus from the Vict. Monument.

I think taximeter will cost more, as it will use expressway=tolls, and not just 1.

  11. Exactly, thats it,.OZ is notorious for wanting to see POOT=Proof Of Onward Travel (in general however airlines only will accept airtix) at the check in. You could book for around 1200 THB a single on the GiantIbis BUS Bkk-Siem Reap, but you take chances they will not accept it. cheapest tix out are mostly to MY, it does not necessarily have to be from BKK, Phuket/krabi/even HYai is also OK. And, do I really need to state?- IN the 30 days after arrival, even though one can extend the 30 day visa-exempt in country. You simply have chosen about the worst enforcing country for this.

Any airticket out includes the 700 bt airport tax, AirAsia will refund, in the end, 600 of that after a very long wait, if it has not been used. Dont know about other cheapo airlines. As such the cheapest train ticket would be over the bridge to Laos from Nongh Khai-30 or 40 bt.

  12. Do not think any. In fact about anywhere in Thailand these former places have just vanished. Blame it to the easyness of all those apps on your fone. The average Thai has 1,5 such and the average gay Thai probably at least 3. Grindr, Blued, hornet, it varies a bit between places what works best.

Which does not mean that chance meetings do not happen, but its too unpredictable and thus too much time eating. Probably the underpaid foreign Burmese workers who have not yet enough savings to buy their first 2nd hd fone and are thus eager to gain some extra to reach that goal might be willing-but then youll thus have to wait till theyve finished their jobs late evenings.

  13. Has been said before but its daft easy. An old-style guidebook, OZ once excelled in those (its named Lonely Planet, even an old one from the public libr, will do nicely), check what you want to see, as youve been already, or is it just to revisit the girl from yesteryear? Then move on ev 2-3 days. There are big buses between all major towns at least hourly or so, just go to busstation (smart people even spend a few mins when getting off and check whats going for next trip out- but then it often seems OZies lack smartness?). There wll also be cheap local hotels anywhere.

Just to compare: it nearly equals about NSW in surface, or is a lot larger as Vic. Do you really intend to be able to cover that from one local base?

Also ANY local province has a direct bus to BKK, the big ones like KhonKhaen or Udorn about ev 30 mins. incl. overnight.

  14. Then I have good news for you-here in BKK, and quite close to that infamous KhaoSarn, the police also turned up when a new bisnis started and made too much loud music for a day or 2 and not only took out all electric plugs but also cut the wiring, that they could not just back plug in when they left. This place got the message and stopped and moved to some other place.

But yes, there will be some kind of regulation and as you must pretty well know, enforced only when those BiB are not contacted and given the required sums before by the noisemakers. Those who pay most win.

Thats why you must never ever rent a place before being able to sleep in it to check that all out.

  15. Re this 9-temple tour: thats right.

On some times, but not now, there are even old-red-hot BMTA buses set aside for that with boards advertising they do the 9-temple circuit. For free. Mostly in Thai school holidays.

But why blame traffic? Most of what you wrote could now easily be done on the new MRT.

  16. Near/close by to SamSenSong:

Myself no need for agents etc. That they will not respond to @mail : rather I would say pretty naive to think they would. In short: THEY do all the legwork for you, this may even incl. showing the 8k in the bank and of course the 3 times you need to do the90-day adress. Have heard of fees in the 13/15k range for all that for a whole yr. Seems to vary with how trustful your country is thought of as to be.  In fact I assume they are not really willing to go with you-they bundle ev. week a dozen or so passpts. (hopefully more in their mindset) and have ´special arrangements´ to have tha processed. Yes, a certain, fairly high, level of mutual trust also comes with that and you seem to miss that. Thus recommendations also go via the beerswilling mates-groups of peers.

What YOU have to do is visit them 4tms/yr and give off your passpt and collect it processed a week later.

It goes without saying that TV and most of the regular responders here frown on this or consider it as not quite so legal. Which as such it is. But as such it fills in a space that many hookedongirls but not overly smart farang seem to fear or think of themselves as being unabletodo. I´ve also spoken to some who had not the faintest of idea on how to reach CW/govmt.centre. Personally I think those really married to Thai wives had rather avoid it at all.

If you think you really need an ´agent´ then hire an interpreter for half/full day.

  17. Exactly-what otherstuff states is how it was. Do not think in strict borders etc-not even EURope at that time had it. It could also very well be possible for a certain area that the ruler there paid tribute (just to make sure) to both the adjacent kingdoms, as was also sometimes the case in Europe in the middle ages. Who paid the money to whom was about the only criterium used to determine who the ruler was thought of to be. Plus there was (and partly still is) endless nothing. Thats why also it was no use of making out exact borders or this is my ricefield or whatever-you just moved on a few rai if you had none or did not like it. Thats still the source of eternal strife about those chanotes for the land ownership.

It also seems likely that the Khmer (and Cham) were slowly but persistently pushed further away to the south what is now Cambodia by groups of people originally from China, where over population (relative for the time) was more rampant-and drought and hunger also struck far more. These gradually also mixed and became the Lao of the 1.000.000 elefants (Lan xiang or lan chang)-probably even more elefants as people.

Thanee is supposed to be city, but in many language other as this /en/ there is no real distinction between city and town. I myself never could believe how those USAers could call a village of 4/5000 people a town(ship). A real city in EUR had special rights and walls around it in the middle ages with gates that were closed at dusk to open by dawn. TH only has ever had very, very few of that-mostly only when and where the king of the time lived, kind of extended castle.

  18. WHY the heck do you even ask that here? In the time you wait you could have called them and ask for a proper answer. Do you really think someone on this board would know better?

Yes, this is pretty common and yes, they know to handle it well giving the circumstances.

Make your appropriate plans when you have their final say if its very imptt to be back in BKK at this prebooked time. That flight is booked and you should get a refund for the missed sector if they cannot organise it for you to reach it. My impression would be for those vans to leave MHS early morning to deliver the pax intime at CNX for onward. Also: NO, you are not entitled to whatever compensation as this is what they call ´act of nature´. If you persist they will explain that this whole replacement cost them more as running the tiny plane.

  19. It is indeed closest by to Laksi train station, its all near ready above there for redline (sky)trains to start running from end of this yr. There is however no really good connection between BTS and Red, better from MRT (Bang Sue grand new central station). But for now thats not quick to wait that long. The local SRT trains are few and far between, always late, but cheap. In fact its quite close to The Gvomt centre, so lamented so many times by about any TV.

In fact it does not really matter that much and also depends on time of day and your skills in getting a taximeter on the meter, or if that even is a mystery to you, explaining where to go.

Its longer from Phahon, its even better from Ch-chak, due to roads layout at Ha Yaek Lard prao, but its a mostly quite fast ride, even more via Tollway (pay more), with also loads of buses: 29,510

From Kasert-the point is that taxi need to make a very long detour to get over the U-turn once railtracks passed, this offsetting the as such shorter ride. Its likely even better to get off the last stop before Kasert, you can then turn left into NgamWong Wan rd.

  20. Too late I guess, but there are no such rules or laws. What you did not mention was quite another thing: the sticky rice fenomenon- Aseans who only go for Aseans.

Babylon is often reported to have more as 60-70% of white customers-all looking not for their own but for the scarce aseans who dare (and who mostly get free passes from entry).

Chakran is linked to a massageshop, whose masseurs (who are more for the afters as for msg) also present themselves there and will go with anyone for the fee+tip.

Thats the big advantage if TH; you can get any type you like, even Vietnamese or Burmese, for a small sum. So there is always a way out or plan B. Or-just like home, there are APPs, Thai are so fone-crazy that that is the best way to test it out.

  21. Be clear if you want just a fast day return with border crossings (note that you MUST also enter Camb and get that visa, then re-enter TH) or are adventurous enough to do it by yourself the leasurely way.

Assuming the 1st (most tipical for those who never leave PTY) just make the gamble, you have no precious exp. so cannot compare. ANY van/company, whatever they promise, will fill up their van to the limit, if not enough visarunners that day, then with whoever wants to go there. It wont be just the tipical beerswilling single men/mates looking desperate and totally uncomfortable without their sheila´s.  Most of those vans/staff will take care of the passpt and enter/leave Camb. for you without you doing the footwork.

  22. You simply mean only remaining Thai newsppr in angkrit? or from UK-the latter are no more (sometimes as printed off here).

No idea, I would look at a 7. Is there a Se-ed Or Pailin shop? Ask at information before going around first.

Long ago they had shelves even for free to take-but then that was the Nation, is also no more on paper.
