  1. In Hanoi I stayed at Hotel Regency in Hom Kiem area, cost was about 2000 Thb /night, the place is definitively in the downtown, then you have everything around you.

The Philippines as far as I know it is humid all year round, except when hurricanes/typhoons attack the archipelago then it is wet! By experience I can tell you only about Manila, it is pretty hot and humid, maybe Baghio has a better climate.

  2. In SEA, I think there is not a lot of options, but there are a few ones.

    • Hanoi (Vietnan) is pleasant most part of the year (town up North has a cooler climate).
    • Bagan and Mandalay (Myanmar) also pretty good climate, can get a little hot during the day, but cool nights.
    • Chiang Rai also cool climate, but only part of the year (Thai winter about 3/4 months only).
    • Luang Praban is cool climate most part of the year (as well other towns in North Laos).

In north of Myanmar you will find very cold climate, but no big cities (the closest and biggest is Mandalay), only small towns and villages and some places are very dangerous.

I like very much Myanmar and I will explore more places there for sure in the coming future, It is a country full of beautiful and hidden places without the exploitation of the tourism, but it can be a bit harsh to travel in such a place, because you depends a lot of transportation, if you have your own transport would be better to travel north Myanmar.

[EDIT] Forgot about cost of living:

    • Myanmar - well, believe or not, the most cost country at least for me, specially in the north.
    • Thailand (Chiang Rai) -  is the cheap one I think.
    • Laos - To rent a property in Laos can be a little difficult, because you need a lot of papers, but if you are willing to live in a hotel/guesthouse, I paid 250 Thb /day Total of 10 days in Luang Praban, the hotel offer a monthly based stay (most hotels/guesthouse up there offer similar deals) for equivalent of 6.000 Thb.
    • Vietnan - I paid a little more, because I choose a better place to stay, but for sure it has cheaper places.

All those places has acceptable internet connection and good coffee. However the best coffee and worst internet was in Laos!

The usual time for applying is not earlier than one week before expiry of your current stay.

Your current stay expires on March 10, so you should not go before March 3.

    The extension form is TM7:

    http://www.immigration.go.th/nov2004/download/form_tm7.pdf

It's a two page form and if you want to fill and print on the computer you have to print duplex (both sides of the sheet).

But easy to fill at the office where original forms are suplied.

A photo is required (4*6 cm officially).

You might need to proof where you stay (hotel bill e.g.).

    1900 Baht.

Yes. They will ask to proof the place you are staying. I bought a contract template (it is in Thai Language) at the Lan House, got it signed by my land lord as well copy of her ID Card(signed by her), copy of her Tabien Baan(signed), since they did not accepted our Tabien Baan (House Registrar) because it is from another province.

But, this request is new, because last year I did the same procedure and IO accepted.

  4. I hold a non-immigrant type O VISA.

Another successful report of extension of stay at Mae Sot border. I went to that border a week ago on a very rainy day, it was almost a suicidal mission but it end up well.

Except that the Immigration Officer of Republic of the Union of Myanmar decided to keep my passport for about 3 hours and told me to go shop around! Officer told me that they can not allow foreign to enter Myanmar without proper VISA (which I didn't have at the occasion), but they do a kind of VOA against a payment of 500 THB in cash only and without receipt. Seems to be the deal to get your extension done.

The problem was not to have to wait 3 hours in Myawaddy (Myanmar side), but it was raining so heavily, the river overflew, and the city around the river banks and in downtown around the pagoda was partly flooded, not much to do in the place except to watch the chaos happening.

pros and cons - it is closer to Bangkok, but the road is very dangerous if you are driving like me, next time, I'm going to Chiang Rai again, it is far way, but much better and safe or maybe I just got unlucky to be there in the rainy season.

  5. Hi Folks, is possible to get a visa on arrival (voa) at the border in Mae Sai? or I need obtain a visa previously with the Myanmar Embassy? How much does it cost? I'm on a Non-Immigrant Category O Multi Entry Visa and need to extend my stay for another 90 days. My last extension was at the immigration office inside Thailand and they told me next time to go to the border get my new extension, since they will refuse if I try to do the extension inside country again, also they gave me only 60 days in my last extension and a fee of 1900 THB was paid. Sorry many question, but I have never been there before. Thanks.

  7. I know my answer is not totally related to the IP issue being revealed, but is a good pratice to have the measure bellow fully working, otherwise change your IP from the internet is not enough, since you can be reached by your DNS leak.!

Be careful with DNS leak, you can always change your DNS by a public one, do not use your ISP DNS otherwise your location can be revealed easily. For a more safe approach you change the DNS in your machine and also in the router (the place where you should configure the ISP DNS).

For example: if you are using modem ADSL cable, then you need to access it and chage the DNS option there, unless you are using a modem+router (one device). The most important configuration to edit is located under LAN -> DHCP Server Config. look for Primary DNS server and Secondary DNS server then edit this information with your own DNS server or a public one like OpenDNS or Google Open DNS as you wish.

After that put the interface down and put it up again, then check your dns leak here -> ipleak dot net or dnsleaktest dot com or any other of your preference.

Then if you want to use TOR go for it... but I do not recommend, is preferable to use chained vpn than tor. (but this you need to figure out by yourself)

    Good Luck!
