  1. See if this is spelled correctly. "Eat Shit, then you Aim High"

I've even seen a CM taxi in the Mae Sai area a few times. I figure the fare for that is around 1,000 baht

I'd say close to double that, Ajarn. Fuel's about 700 baht and it's 6/7 hours work for him.

How do they charge? I thought it was something like 3 baht per kilometer? Or is it 4 baht?

About 500 k's up and back.... About 1500-2000 baht, by my guesstimate

    Still a lot

I'll take ya' for 1199, thrills included

That'd be a good deal but the thrilling bit sounds a bit ominous, or do you know a place in CR? Being a married man and all, my thrilling days are over but at least I don't have to make that bugger of a journey every month now.

The thrill is being a passenger of mine. :D:D:D:D:D:o:D

As for places in CR, I rarely miss a stop at Charin Resort, Km post #141 on the CM-CR road.. :D

Great reply teacher. sure brings back memories of the trip. Sure is the best place for a rest stop some cake and coffee. Also a cake boxed up is also a great help for the ladies at immigration. Do not expect any great favors but it does make them remember you and things goes a little easier under the table for those visa runs. I hope you do not mind me to copied this picture to use til I get back to CM.

  2. Not sure I agree with all those points about GB. I too am concerned about the SS situation, its going broke. I still have about 7 plus years to wait. But thank God for my Military retirement Check. It looks bigger and bigger all the time.

I too have gone broke here in the US. I can not (getting old and am sick) keep up with the Jone's as they say. Really do not want to anyway. Wife Is Thai and we have sold home, now waiting about 10 more months. Intend on getting out and moving to LOS. Where? Not exactly sure, thinking of CM and Maybe CR. But not hearing much great about CR.

I am very concerned about the pollution in CM, as I have breathing problems. No oxygen mahcine etc. but troubles just the same. Maybe living West of CM between the two?

  3. A "Plastic Pig" now you must be Brit?

    skycop :D

I always used to hire a car with a mate, or take a bike by yourself. You can pick up a 400cc in town for 300 baht and be there and back in around 6 hours if you know what you're doing. Even a 125 plastic pig would do the trick. They're only 150 baht for a day and you could come and go (go and come) in your own time and still beat the god awful bus. :o

  4. yeah but pls tell me not just 8 tabs...

These stories about the cops planting drugs on innocent people are so scary - and knowing how corrupt the cops are here I'm convinced there are more chance of that having happened than the guy actually having committet a crime.

Of course, due to the massive corruption at all levels, there is good reason to question any such arrest. None of us here will ever know for sure, so we're only stuck with our own predjudices in suggesting his guilt or innocence

Notice he's not accusing police of planting drugs on him, he's saying that the drugs may have been planted by police informers.. He also is alleged to have marked bills...

Sounds like he was involved in a sting, and is now paying the price. Too bad for his parents, but I'm not so quick to buy his story of complete innocence.

  5. I am a Southerner and I see many uneducated answereing...shame.

have this to say.  I have eaten grits all of my life and then found out it is a great food of South Catolina in a dish called Shrimp and Grits.  I thought that sounded terrible and finally my son got me to try it and D#mn if it isn' t real good.  Look up the recipe on line as it is very good and you will like grits then.

Still like eggs, bacon and grits with a hot biscuit and honey.

  6. Take 10mg of ambien but be aware some people have troubles with that. I take it and it works well for me. Sometimes so dreams but nothing horrid. Be user be aware, it will make; you sleep so be ready to do just that. Think this is not available in Thailand..

I'm a really bad flyer. Severe phobia and fear. For many years I only went anywhere if I could get there by road, rail or sea.

Doc gives me a magic cocktail of Ativan ( tranquiliser) and propanol ( Beta blocker )

Works a treat. However the combi can make one too relaxed and a bit vague. Is she flying alone? Better really if she has company to make sure she makes any flight connections etc. I once wandered off leaving my hand luggage behind at Dubai. It was ages before I even noticed I'd lost my bag.

Tell the airline she is phobic and on medication and ask them to ensure the flight attendants take care of her. They are usually very good as they are extensively trained to deal with these problems. Gives them a chance to show that they are not just glorified waitresses too!

  7. Wonder what that stuff costs...wife in much pain all the time..

    skycop :o

Tramadol is addictive and reacts badly with alcohol. I recommend Temgesic for severe pain. It is probably one of the finest, non addictive analgesics available.

It is expensive, but excellent. Tiny pills are dissolved sub-lingually (under the tongue) for rapid relief of pain.

It is available at some Thai pharmacies. The reason it is frowned upon is because it is used by diamorphine and cocaine addicts to alleviate withdrawal symptoms.

When used to treat pain it is superb.

  8. Wife is taking it, wonder if you can buy it in LOS..and how much.

    skycop :o

I just returned from a trip to the doctor for knee pain and he gave me a rather convincing presentation on the benefits of taking gluclosomine and chondroitin (don't hold me to that spelling :D ).  He cited two ongoing studies, one in the US and one in Canada that have shown positive effects.  This isn't an overnight pain relief, but it's a long term plan for better joint health.

I'm not a doctor and have never even played on on TV--take it for what it's worth!

  9. I take your reply as being rude, for no reason. I am a retired E-7 and not a dummy if thats what you are inferring.

    ..Sigh..    :D

    OK, Ajarn posted:

    Egg= 28-30 baht for 10

Bread= 27 baht for whitebread at Jiffy

If you fail to even comprehend this small post then perhaps internet forums are not for you as a source of information/communication.

(However I assume this answered the question posed in the opening post. :D )

  10. You lucky retired Americans or Europeans really like.

I have lived in Thailand and married Thai for 32 years, and just wonder what the heck I could do all day. I like the night markets and shopping there, but am not a bar fly and would not do that outside an occ. beer.

So fill me in what is it you do with your retired Life in LOS!

    wants to know...

must be rough though, hope I live a bit longer and find myself there too.

  11. If you want that one year visa then how do you get money into a thai bank? Write a check into that Thai account? You got to prove that money thing.

    skycop

Are there any US Banks or correspondent banks in Thailand that would provide a”seamless” way to manage money transfers back and forth? If not what is the best means of banking in Thailand?

This is about the only question that I can answer with and authority.

There are no banks that can get your money into Thailand for you as the Thai banking authority does not use electronic transfer numbers.

The best way I have found is to keep your US bank, have your money deposited there and then have an ATM/Check card, Use the ATM/Checkcard to transfer from your US acct. to your Thai acct. at your Thai bank, I do this monthly for a fee of 60 baht.and I use SCB. here in Thailand.

  12. Well look into smoking that new brand that has coupons that can be remitted for a lung machine when needed.

    skycop :D

I am a heavy smoker, yesterday for example I met a bloke from this forum. There was him, his wife, myself, my wife and 5 of my wifes girlfriends. I smoked 4 packets yesterday. 80 cigs.

I would love to quit, but I do think it is impossible for me to stop. I am hooked beyond repair and I am only 30 years old  :o

If anyone has a secret, please spill the beans.
