As for the elimination of my position, if others are still working in the same capacity, I assume this could be looked at as an unfair dismissal; especially if I'm being let go because of 'redundancy'

What if you are being made redundant because the company is downsizing or changing its direction. That wouldn't mean all of those similar positions are no longer required, just some of them. It's only "not redundancy" if your position remains and is subsequently filled by someone else.

Depends what sort of people you are talking too, uneducated hookers or people who went to a proper school makes a difference.

There are highly educated people in my office in California and believe me I hear inane, banal and ignorant comments all the time. I certainly don't need to understand similar trivia in another language

"instance in Thailand, people over here talk about everything"

unlike in every other country :saai:

That is why I never bother with learning Thai - if their conversations are even half as inane as the ones I can overhear in English back home I don't think I'll bother

Not really. That's why people use accountants. Tax avoidance isn't illegal. Tax evasion is. I look at agents as accountants.

The evidence is that tax returns generally terrify people so they use accountants/tax agents. It has nothing to do with either evasion nor avoidance. H&R Block have built an entire business model around it

  5. The notion that getting married adds much weight to a visa application these days is mistaken for almost any First World Country except the USA. Ever since gay couples fought for equal billing, immigration departments have looked for evidence of the genuineness of the relationship, not its legal status. It's a matter of some irony that while immigration authorities around the world have stressed that getting married legally means nothing precisely so as to support applications from gay couples, gay couples have fought for the right to get married legally. It's a sad, mad world we live in

BS eh? I posted on here a while back about a company knowingly and deliberately selling fakes as the real deal the thread was taken down within the hour. I could understand defamation if something is a false statement but when its true making defamation is absurd. Much like most things in Thailand.

Truth is no defence in Thailand :(

My, my, my, I was unaware such prejudice existed! As someone who has lived and worked abroad his whole life, 37 years and counting, much of it in Africa and Asia, I've been a habitual wearer of shorts.

It's a well-known principle in business life, part of the "Dress for Success" theory - the more flesh you show the less seriously you will be taken. When I first started coming to Thailand thirty years ago shorts were a total no-no - I never saw a Thai in shorts. Nowadays they're fairly common in Bangkok

Still unable to find anyone who can link us over 70s to a health insurance provider  (that is not trying to bankrupt us) should one be required. Apart from monthly quotes that would actually pay for a major operation, there does not seem to be any way around this.

Doesn't exist if the criteria is "not trying to bankrupt us". The older you are, the worse insurance risk you are. The chance that you're not going to succumb to one or other of the diseases of old age is low and gets lower as you age - and that includes simply losing your balance with unfortunate consequences. Unless you're in a country like Australia with its "lifetime" premium calculation for health insurance that's pretty much true of everywhere in the world

No need to upgrade a 3G sim card. It  is compatible with a 4G capable phone and will automatically switch give 4G internet speeds if put in a 4G phone, assuming there's a 4G signal available of course. Likewise, a sim that was issued with/for a 4G phone will auto switch to 3G if there's no 4G signals available.

Well ... I had a True 3G SIM card and I had to upgrade the SIM card in order to access 4G
