In my labour law case back in 2019 (that I won) the judge insisted that I couldn't be Thai. He even wrote in the case documentation that it was a dispute between 2 foreigners. At least he sided with the the Thai foreigner ????

I'm the teacher that took an international school to court & won severance for 10 years service. They offered reduced benefits after I became a Thai citizen so I refused to sign the contract. There is a Supreme Court precedent about a group of expat teachers in Pattaya who won a case against an international school for non renewal of contract. I posted it here before. Unfortunately constructive dismissal isn't covered by Thai labour law. See out the contract & if it isn't renewed take them to court.

I'm in a similar position as I'll be replacing my 3.2 Everest next year. Reviews say the new 2.0 Everest is quicker with.better fuel fuel consumption but the suspension is now a bit softer at the expense of handling. The new Fortuner has an uprated engine with similar power to the Ford. The handling isn't as good, doesn't have terrain management & still has the stupid seat configuration for 3rd row seats.
An all new Everest debuts next year so I would wait for that. It's supposed to have uprated egines possibly including a PHEV. I'm also planning to test the Volvo XC40 and the Mitsubishi PHEV SUV.

A Volvo dealership will be opening in Pattaya this year. That's what a Bangkok dealer told me when I was looking at the S60 T8.

Yes I've renewed my car tax after not paying a speeding fine. My cleaner tidied away the nice colour photo never to be found again.

The school should deduct income tax. Private & international schools are exempt from.mandatory social security so most don't in order to reduce costs/maximise profit. They also pay zero corporation tax.

As regards the bank question I took my nationality crrtificate, ID card &RG to SCB then they changed the status of the account from foreigner to Thai. There were some raised eyebrows at the bank ????

I know that both private & international schools are exempt from corporation tax. With that major benefit as well as removing the requirement to pay for social security contributions for all teachers, I would have thought that subsidies would be unlikely.

As other people hsve said, wear a suit & tie ,& of course be polite. If you don't speak much Thai let your wife take over. I found it a little nerve racking, but just relax. Treat yourself to a nice meal afterwards. I've been Thai for 3 years now & I wish I'd known my wife could do the talking before I had the interview ????

All teachers at private & international schools are excluded from socisl security. After they were allowed not to contribute they were supposed to put something in place but few do. I only know of a couple of international schools that offer a pension/provident fund. The majority that don't have pensions argue they have a bonus in lieu of pension. However that's not really an argument as a bonus doesn't have to be paid as its dependent on performance. The fact that international& private schools don't offer a bonus is a bit naughty as they pay zero corporation tax. The finance ministry had proposed making the probident fund compulsary for all companies but it wouldn't surprise mevif schools were excluded ????

My dogs (bull terrier, weimaraner & dalmatian) live in the house & go in the garden supervised. They get an on & off lead walk for 5km each day.i taught them to leave snakes, toads & water monitor lizards

You could resign from your job & you may never be asked to present your work permit again during the application process. However, it's not worth the risk as it could derail your application. Personally I would stick with the job for what is likely to be a matter of months. Reward yourself with the occasional treat for sticking with the job.

There is a hotel specifically for the armed forces in the Utapao airport base with a popular restaurant attached to it. There was no logical reason for them to drive over 40 minutes to the centre of Rayong to stay there, let alone to let them go to a shopping centre and evening entertainment venues.
All of the schools are now closed in Rayong until the end of the week.

I did 'recon' on the strip earlier this week purely for research purposes. More of the bars have opened compared to last week and more of the entertainment professionals have returned from their Issan base camps. Punters were few and far between although that was also the case before Covid 19 ????. There were no post lock down special offers.

Yes some are open on the strip. I popped up mid week I would say less than 50% were open. Even the ones that were open didn't have a full contingent of entertainment professionals. All of the bars outside of the strip are open. However, all bars are now closed until Tuesday ????

A project which has zero economic justification. It's destined to becomea white elephant & will create massive levels of corruption & misery for local residents in Ban Chang. The consultation with local residents in Eastern Star was its going ahead & if you object you can take us to court.

There is no economic justificatiion for this. A complete waste of funds, leading to corruption & a reduction in the quality of life for local residents. It will have a huge negative impact on those people living in Eastern Star & Pala in Ban Chang.

I had a BT50 3.2 4wd from 2013-2016. It was fast, comfortable % relatively good on fuel. Nothing went wrong, very solid & spacious. Its a well thought design with nice touches like the back seat flups up for more storage & cubby holes below the back seat. I changed when I bought a new 4wd Ford Everest. In short I would thoroughly recommend the BT50 from 2012 onwards.

I changed the yellow book (Bangkok) to a blue one (province where I live) after I did the oath and got the ID card. I was worried that it might cause problems in the same way that everyone says you should keep your work permit valid throughout. I just wanted to play it safe.

Yes it's looking like they will open next week. It shows the multi-tiered approach to the economy. Is it a surprise that influential business owners and politcians own international/private schools? The schools have been open about their desire for reopening being commercial, as a result of parents' demands for discounts. At least the schools have earned income during the lockdown period unlike other industries. There's also the issue that private and international schools pay zero corporation tax (despite most being for profit organisations and some owned by large foreign multinationals), zero national insurance contributions for teaching staff and have a private school act which attempted to bypass labour law for foreign staff. If it is safe for them to open then so be it but the same rules should be applied to other industries.

There aren't any German short haired pointer breeders in Thailand. I wanted one & in the end got a dalmatian & I only found 1 breeder for dalmatians.

I agree with the previous poster that we cook more and that the quality of the ingredients and finished product is better than restaurants in the Chang. Working from home helps you to develop new skills in the work place that you couldn't under normal circumstances ????. I'm not going to name and shame but some of the takeaways I've had from normally excellent restaurants haven't been the same as the 'eat in' version.

I'm a teacher at an International school in Bangkok & there's been no indication we'll open soon. End of year exams are online as well as evidence for IGCSE & A level. People forget that in all of 2020 there were 5000 positive cases. We now get that in a day or 2.
