  1. I dumped Firefox and Thunderbird after my mails on file went missing permanently.

not taking the mick, but what would you recomend as an alternative to firefox or thunderbird, would appreciate any advice, Nignoy

im using the latest firefox with outlook for my email and no problems with bookmarks

or missing email and thats with using outlook to pull down my hotmail from the

web plus a pop mail account.

its always a good idea to backup your bookmarks folder just in case because

its real time consuming finding those websites again

  2. i got one of those entry level surround sounds systems and the woofer was the same

size as the other speakers. its falls flat when there is an action scene that has

lots of bass and rumbling. The really good sounding systems have the "powered sub-woofer". you can always add on a powered sub woofer later.

but... if you live in a condo with paper walls you dont

want your neighbor thinking there is an earthquake.

or... if you hate your neighbor get a monster bass pop scarface into the dvd icon_guns.gif

  3. It's normal for your computer to be scanned by other computers, usually "zombies".  It's just hacker programs on compromised computers doing random scans so that they copy themselves to vulnerable computers.  If your router has a firewall, you don't have to worry about it.

Computers on the internet get scanned every day, several times a day.  As long as you're protected, you can just ignore it.

thats an outbound connection. outbound connection means its coming from

YOUR computer. it looks like its scanning ports in your router.

ive got the same router and ive never seen that one.

ive seen the smurf a couple times. i believe i looked it up and sometimes

udp connections make it think its under a smurf attack.

ide do a virus and spyware scan asap. have you gotten the latest firmware upgrade for the router?

It could also be some newly installed software thats looking for open ports to

    transfer data with.

i believe the msft firewall does not provide outbound protection. suppose you

get a trojan that collects your pswds and sends them to a hackers website

    for his viewing pleasure

  4. The average movie would not fit into a 700MB disc if burned as a VCD. Is it possible to burn a movie onto 2 discs using NERO v.6 without affecting continuity after the first disc is burned.

Shouldn't NERO ask for a second blank disc after the first one is burned?

    Any ideas? Cheers!!!

ive burned avi's to video cd format using nero 6 but

the avi's ive use usually split in 2 already for me. there is a part 1 and 2.

so im not much help here.

which format are you starting with?

a good video editor will be able to split avi's mpg's etc, in half. that would seem to

    be the easiest.

you could also pick up a dvd burner for the computer. they're really coming down

    in price.

  5. Had GF tested Anti Hiv test and the other STD tests all negative.  I have been with her 24/7 for two months.  Always safe sex.  When I read about testing I discover the early tests detected anti hiv in 6 to 12 weeks now tests detect in 2 to 3 weeks.  Is that accurate?  2 to 3 weeks for the vast majority of people?

i always thought it was 6 months minimum before antibodies were detectable

you had the herpes 1 and 2 tests too?

  6. I have a frequent amount of bees - of all shapes and sizes - trying to find holes to live in in my home. Anyone know how to get rid of them?????? Seonai

    ======================================

    I don't even understand American bees.....................DJM

ive got killer african bees and bees that eat wood like termites

where i live. do any of the bees in thailand eat wood?

ive seen them severly weaken wooden structural support beams. :o

  7. My internet connection is often very slow. I live outside Rayong and we have no option for broadband here. My PC spec. is up to date and adequate, but my average connection is only 29kbps. I am using a prepay card purchased from 7-11 store. The service is called ‘e-15 d’. Initially the speed was ok, but after my modem went down and I had it changed I noticed a big change.

Some years ago when I was in UK I bought an external modem, which improved my connection a lot. I was wondering if I did the same here I would get the same results. Otherwise can anyone recommend other ways of speeding things up?

    Thanks.

If the modem you've got in there now is one of those "software modems" then

yes an external modem would be faster and better. The hardware error corrrection

that the externals use is superior to the software error correcton most of the newer

    internal software modems use.

a couple of added advantages to the external is you dont have to reboot if

your modem needs resetting and in lightening storms the zap coming thru

the phone line has less of a chance of frying the motherboard with the external

  8. I've been learning a bit about Buddhism and I'm trying to see if what is taught seems to fit us.

Your question reminds me of the scene in the movie "The razors edge" where

bill murray is sent to the top of the mountain by the monk and its freezing cold.

I guess he's supposed to transcend from the human level of suffering in the cold to

a higher plane. He reads a little from the book they gave him and suddenly

he says screw it and burns the book to keep warm. He leaves the monastary

soon after and heads back home.

rebirth in another life is a hard pill for me to swallow. I'm just too logical

One thing I did get out of buddism that really does relieve worry and stress is self hypnosis or meditation as they call it. It is another level of consciousness. Your senses are heightened and your thoughts are crystal clear. I went to a professional hypnotherapist to learn. He made a great tape to teach me the technique. The first

time it happened to me it blew me away. It was an incredible sensation.

That was 15 yrs ago and I still use it for headaches, stress and when I can't sleep.

It also gave me a feeling of inner peace that lasted for days after. I think the process

releases tons of serotonin, but not sure haven't researched that part of it.

Einstein said he used to put himself into a state where he felt like he left his

body. It helped him think in the abstract. Was he doing self hypnosis? Sounded

    like it to me.

  9. The thing that scares me is when my brother in law orders 250 cubic foot oxygen cylinders for his shop and they arrive in the back of a pickup (say 30 of them) with no safety caps on them. If the valve breaks off of one of those 2,000 psi cylinders they travel about 1/8 mile before landing.

Your brother is living on borrowed time :D

However... I'm not one to admonish because i did really dumb stuff in my younger years like pour a pint of lacquer thinner into a 55 gallon barrel and light it. bloody thing sounded like a 737 (consuming oxygen through the small hole) as it took off down the driveway. It flew a couple inches off the ground and went about 300 feet. All i wanted to do is dry the diesel out of it :o

  10. What I need to know is it possible to bring to thailand a small ac unit and for it too work.

Can anyone tell me the wattage and especially the ampage that is there. I would assume the amps are what will really matter.

plenty of carrier and hitachi units there already and no voltage conversion problems.

in the usa they sell lots of chinese made a/c's now. i paid 96 dollars for a 5000 btu

unit last month. dont know how long it will last. haven't had much luck with cheap chinese made stuff lately. Had to get it because my central a/c unit motor got

zapped by lightning and i needed a backup. ###### thing had microprocessor chips in the ###### motor! real expensive to replace i might add. I like those simple units they have over in thailand. the simpler the better.

i hear its washing machines in thailand that really give you the problems

  11. I must say that there are alot of old fashioned people here.

    Whats wrong with tatoos? :D

And for Angelinas, tatooed or not, she is still so xxxx beautiful!

I must add that you should choose your tattoo's wisely because in your later years

and your skin loses its elasticity, you don't want the head of the tiger covered

by a sagging flap of skin. :o

I think in 25-30 years this fad will have long since run its course and the

laser removal parlors will be doing a brisk business.

  12. Why on earth are you asking what I presume are complete strangers what to do with the rest of your life?

$400,000 isn't that much money, about £250,000.  I for one would not wish to see out potentially another 40 years of my life on £250k.

Personally, if I was in your position I would work the extra 5 years to ensure a bit more security.

I wouldn't dream of retiring early on anything less than £500,000 if I wasn't guarenteed any further income.  However, it is your life and ultimately your decision.

I'm still bewildered by your post.  Honestly, I cannot fathom what some people must think sometimes, asking a forum of complete stranger for some life guidance ...Surely this post is not genuine?

LOL aren't financial advisors complete strangers? :o

I couldn't think of a more appropriate forum for asking this question.

These people have "been there done that"

and i might add that there is some ###### good advice here.

  13. Then I made and heaved a Molotov cocktail at them. I hit one trike, with the driver still sitting in it, flames went everywhere, and definitely upset all the drivers. They ran to the police. I sat around and waited for the police to show up. The police came and talked to me. The police left. The drivers all treated me with much more respect thereafter.

    LOL now thats funny :o

  14. thanks for the ugly info.

you are an ostrich. go put on your rose colored glasses and

    bury your head :o

those stats on mexico are really hard to believe. i've worked with

mexicans that say many murders (executions) are carried out by the federal police

    themselves.

    his agenda is to INFORM

"stop promotion of a reference manual" ???

me's think your first language is not english

  15. You blokes in the uk are getting ripped off. from san francisco to bkk its 408 pounds and you're in the air 18 hours.

from london its 12 hours in the air and costs 503 pounds.

both flights i used for a comparison had about an hour stopover.

  16. Has anyone ever tried working for one of the air courier companies? If so, is it worth

the added hassle of carrying documents just to get a discounted/free airfare?

With the postal system in thailand as bad as it is, it would seem there would

be a brisk business in hand carrying important documents into and out of thailand.
