  1. On my next trip to Thailand I was going to check out what options I had. Seeking a hair facility in Bangkok for hair regeneration, plugs, grafts, etc...................... DJM

Had a friend who went down this road looked absolutely ridiculous  :o we bought him a hat.

I have seen a few cases where people have had hair transplants, and ended up with their scalp looking like a rubber plantation (straight lines of growth with nothing inbetween).

those are the guys that ran out of money and couldn't pay for more transplants.

If the transplants are thick enough you won't notice. vanity costs $$

if you go the transplant route dont go half the way

  2. I have the old Nero v.5 installed on my win xp sp2 pc. This demo version hs expired since and has been popping up to remind me. Very annoying. I just realized that it did not come with an uninstaller. I tried installing the latest version of Nero, but it comes up with an error saying some files of the old version are missing.

I have also noticed (coincidence maybe) that the active windows minimise by themselves at their own free will. Could this be because of the expired Nero???

    Any ideas???

    Cheers!!!

i had that version a while back. memory is a little rusty. i believe "smart start" is

in the startup folder. i removed it from the startup folder and it didn't go to the

status bar every time i turned it on. i think thats what you mean by minimized.

thats the way the program is designed to run. i like nero, its a well written program

but loading it every time you boot is a real resource hog that slows booting.

  3. Only problem is if you have a bad tenant.

ive been in the rental business in the past and have had no luck with tenants.

nowdays you've got better tools for sorting out bad tenants which makes the

    job easier.

but managing from thailand? i dont know how you guys do it. especially if the

tenants know your're very far away.

the only way ide manage from afar is if i owned rentals in high deman places

like new york or london where the tenants know they screw up its hard

    to find another flat.

rental management co's take a big piece of the pie but they occasionally

drive by the property to see if its still standing and they havent moved in

    their extended family.

more power to you if you can handle the worry.

  4. TOT has ground to a crawl for me too over the last month. I have the same problem with web pages not loading, downloads crawling. I notice upload speeds are fine. I had a couple of days where speeds were ok then it slowed down again...

i was able to speed up my crummy dsl service a little by disabling dns and dhcp in the modem settings.

then i told windows that i had another dns server in the tcp ip settings.

i chose another dns server outside my isp since the isp's dns servers were swamped.

  5. 1.  Two huge budget deficits which keep on growing.  In order to finance these deficits, the US MUST HAVE billions of dollars of foreign investment coming in all the time.  The main investors in US debt are foreign central banks which have bought so many dollars already, they are about ready to stop and diversify.  When they do, the US is in deep-sh*t, and they will stop soon.

exporters like japan and china are buying our debt to keep their currencies

down relative to the dollar so their exports are cheap to us. this in turn keeps short term interest rates down. if they do slow down in buying our debt, our interest rates will tick up. Add to the mix a govt burning up all those dollars to support a huge deficit and less money coming in from abroad and thats the recipe for even higher

    rates.

i agree 100% with you on the housing bubble. they keep saying prices are sticky

on the way down but its gotten way out of hand. i'm putting my place on the market

shortly since its doubled in price in just 3 yrs.

I remember the early 1990's and some markets got hammered 40-50%. I worked for the (rtc) resolution trust the govt set up to dispose of all the portfolios that failed s&l's banks. It was an eye opener looking in those files. I don't foresee bank failures

on that scale but I think its going to be nasty correction.

my real estate investement would be the first thing ide be looking at if i was

    getting ready to retire.

    sell high and rent low

  6. What about dividend paying stocks?

good question. you got me to wondering. yahoo finance has a stock screening

tool yahoo stock screenerand you can enter a range of dividend yields. i chose 5% to 50%

this is what i came up with.

A screenshot of highest paying dividends. The grandaddy of them all is FRO

Its one of the oil supertanker companies. Pulling up the 5 yr chart on FRO gives

me a nose bleed. :o The question you've got to ask yourself is what are the

risks associated with transporting supertankers full of flammable oil :D

That 46% yield sure is tempting tho

  7. Does anyone have any recomendations about establishing a retirement income stream?

My investments are US based and I'd like to get 5% with some growth.

5% return should be able to be had with just cd's. you can build a cd ladder that

takes advantage of a rising rate environment that we're now in. you dont want to be stuck with 5% if rates are climbing even higher so you buy cd of varying maturity. ide suggest checking with bankrate.com for the best rates in the us.

if your nest egg is just enough to retire on ide stay away from stocks and mutual

funds. commissions are what 10% out the door on mutal fund purchases? screw that.

If im retired and i have a finite amount of money in the bank I TRUST NOONE

    except myself and the fdic.

there is only one exception to no stocks that i would even consider and thats

the cd's that their rate of return is linked to the stock indices. The beauty of this is, you are guaranteed no loss to your initial investment if the index you have chosen is in the red and if the index is up thats your return on the cd.

i would have loved to have bought some 30 yr bonds back in the 80's when

interest rates were hovering around 18%

  8. Thanks for the replies! The engine in this car is not the original engine; I believe the original siezed up some years ago and was replaced with another used Toyota engine. Originally, the car had a 1.8 liter engine that was adapted to take natural gas (the valve is still under the hood). The engine in it now is a 2.0 and compared to today's cars, it's a fairly simple layout. However I don't know enough to make any adjustments so I may need to visit my mechanic.

put some 91 in and see if you hear a pinging sound when you stomp on the gas pedal.

if it pings you may be able to retard the timing a bit to stop the pinging. pinging is very hard on head gaskets. you definately want to prevent it at all costs.

  9. I just hope interest rates keep climbing!!!!

Sell high and rent low... thats the ticket

You've got the right idea. I'm also in the process of

getting my house in arizona on the market.

ide like to patiently wait out the usa baby boomer asset bubble in thailand.

then swoop down and pick up a deflated and realistically priced

condo in kona hawaii. then i could spend part of the year in hawaii

and part in thailand. I don't think I could handle full time in thailand.

I'de like a place thats more isolated from the worlds problems and

hawaii fits the bill in that category.

I certainly like the cost of health care in thailand. I think the health care

system here is overated. I've seen firsthand what lousy care my elderly

parents get. I think I can do just as good at the bkk international

hospitals and the insurance premiums would be 1/4.

Besides, half the doctors here are from foreign countries anyway.

  10. that 300 level is very high. high levels of glucose act like a poision. It damages

all your organs, muscles and nerves. what really motivated me to control my blood sugar is fear that i could damage nerves in my willie :o

you can pump it up with viagra but you can never get the feeling back once its gone.

  11. i looked at some of the prices and services offered at yanhee hospital and it appears

they are primarily a vanity clinic offering plastic surgery, sex change and hair transplants.

    http://www.yanhee.net/Others/Aboutus.html

"We wish everyone to possess a healthy, youthful body and good-looking

personality, which are the fundamentals to a happy life."

i've just got to have the "good-looking personality" transplant!

Prices are definately cheaper than the west. especially on the facelifts.

i have a friend that paid 10,000 us and they charge 2,000.

they even have a message board. i wonder if the dissatisfied patients posts

    get deleted? :o

money $$ does attract the best and brightest but i also take into consideration

where the doctor went to medical school. i wonder if its considered impolite to ask

him where he/she was trained and where he spent his residency.

  12. I dont know about the law in thailand but here in usa if the wife max's out the cards

you are both liable to pay it back. its worth a try saying the cards were stolen but if your

wife calls the cc company to check on why she cant charge any more or tries to

    raise the limit, your screwed.

  13. You should also try looking at company specific websites (for western companies), many of which will list positions by country. Most of them want locals, though - they came here for cheap labor, and you ain't it.

Good advice. Many companies dont advertise on the job boards. Im not sure why

as its good exposure for them. Perhaps too good exposure if the HR staff is lazy

and doesn't want to process through many resume's.

Myself, I've not had very good luck with the job boards. Some of the jobs

there I think are just recycled outdated listings or just outright bs.

Its a slow tedious process finding each international companies website

but well worth the effort. I've bookmarked their career search page

and set up job alerts to email me if a job comes up that matches a keyword.

You didn't say anything about trying the international consultant companies.

These people have head hunters that search for you.

Outsourcing/contract companies are another potential prospect. It seems

more and more companies dont want to bother with the hiring/payroll/benefits process and hand the job over to companies that specialize in finding/hiring employees. I can attest to this approach as ive dealt with many lame HR depts.

If you've got a lot of experience writing code you could work over the internet and

not even bother with international companies. This would be the option that

I would put most time into.

good luck in your search. I find it baffling that you cannot find anything with

    your knowledge.

  14. You should have looked before you posted.  There's an older hair transplant discussion in this same folder.

I would but I'm almost blind.

    Thanks

if your almost blind then how can you see that your hair is gone? :o

seriously, hair transplants eventually fall out leaving a scarred bald head.

i ran across a website that showed awful scars on the back of the head where

they lifted the grafts from and on top where they did scalp reductions.

many guys said if they had known what they knew now they would have never

    done the procedure.

ide go for the glued on toupe before ide let them touch me with a knife :D

  15. i saw a news report on television about some ripoff salons that reuse wax and a woman got herpes from the used wax. :o

some people bleed when hair is pulled so your looking at possible blood transfer too

    with used wax.

he should check into laser treatments to permanently reduce the hair on his back if really bothers him that much.

  16. They're called desuperheaters and they are excellent for hot climates.

The cold water makes the a/c unit run at lower pressures and improves efficiency which in turn makes the unit last longer and cost less to run.

I've put lawn sprinklers on the outside condenser coils on really hot days to

    make the cool better.

If your real handy you could build your own with this type of pipe.

    link

These have been used on fishing boats for years. its impractical to cool the coils

with air on a boat so they use water. this is a picture of a loop.

  17. Ive seen people have absolutely no identity of their own. Work is everything to them.

It defines their whole being. Usually they go downhill fast after retiring and die soon after.

That reminds me... there is a movie called About Schmidt with Jack nickolson

and he plays this kind of guy. Its a ###### depressing movie!

I don't know where most of you have worked but it sure isn't anywhere near

where i've worked. There are some downright miserable people in the workforce

here in the usa. It gets to me really bad sometimes just thinking about working another 20 yrs in my field of IT.

After a fantastic 3 year sabattical, I recently took a job and lasted 12 days at it. Between the petty personality conflicts of the women and the druggie meth user supervisor I couldn't muster enough courage to return to that workplace. :o

I'm only 44 and envy you guys that don't have to answer to anyone.

I'm contemplating selling my house and putting it all in the bank and renting.

The housing bubble is sure to pop and would hate to lose all that potential

    retirement savings. :D

  18. it's a scam - forward the entire email including the headers to [email protected] and they will confirm it

speaking of scams.. I got one of those spoof scam emails this morning and

went to the website and entered dozens of garbage account numbers and bank accounts just to make them work for their money. However what is more disturbing is that ebay alert monitor i installed thats supposed to spot spoofing didnt work!

  19. What in your opinion are good items to either bring back to your home county and sell on either ebay or just to people.

Also what could be a good item(s) to sell in Thailand if that is where you are based?

I thought of things like Buffalow horns and somethimes you see those pictures with dead insects in (Spider, butterfly, Scorpion) But I don't want to be selling anything that is considered endangered.

But what comes to mind for all of you?

    Thanks!

big dead icky things should sell well

love them scorpions and spiders myself

  20. sounds rather harsh but if they shoot to wound it could set off explosives

so they aim for the head.

looks like they got their man

    from the bbc:

Another passenger on the train, Anthony Larkin, told BBC News the man had been wearing a "bomb belt with wires coming out".
